Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Rancho El Sendero, and enjoy an optional Yoga Session while waiting for other guests to arrive. Get to know the group that you’ll spend the next five days with and get a true taste of Mexican culture. Share dinner and enjoy a fiesta with your new friends!

Days 2, 3 & 4: Climb and Relax

Kick off the following three days with breakfast at the local La Posada restaurant, where authentic Mexican dishes await. After this, enjoy a yoga or light bodywork session before heading to the crag for your daily dose of climbing. Based on your individual wants and climbing experience, you will be sorted into one of three groups, and your group will determine what your climbing days on the Potrero Chico will look like. Groups one and two will alternate between climbing exercises on the rock and technical workshops, while group three will enjoy multi-pitch ground school and a half-day multi-pitch! After the climbs, head back to Rancho El Sendero for a siesta, an optional yoga session, and a filling dinner.

Day 5: Departure

After a filling breakfast at the ranch, take part in a morning flexibility or yoga session. Group one will spend the full final day at the crag, while group two partakes in a recovery workshop and an evening climb. Group three gets to enjoy another half-day multi-pitch. After your final dinner of this tour, say your farewells to the stunning scenery and the friends you’ve made. Maybe you’ll meet them soon on new adventures!

Brandi S. about Space Below Our Feet on Facebook

I don’t think I even have enough words to express my appreciation and love for Savannah and all the guides with Space Below Your Feet. I went from never climbing outside before to feeling so comfortable and excited to try various routes and I’m afraid I’ll never be able to quit now. Savannah had the whole trip planned out perfectly to every last detail, including scheduling our covid testing and guiding us with the new international travel procedures. Savannah and Gen felt like old friends, so encouraging and helpful, I never felt intimidated or excluded when I was the newest and least strong of the group. It was just the best trip and experience. I am already planning to book as many more guiding trips as possible with them this year. If you want a great guide and amazing experience you have to contact Savannah.

Giselle T. about Space Below Our Feet on Facebook

This trip to Mexico was my second trip with Space Below Your Feet. The guides are not only very knowledgeable and professional, they also feel like they’ve been your friends for years! I felt safe, comfortable, and STOKED with all of them;  the group dynamic is amazing. They work with every experience level and listen to what you’d like to learn; it’s like having a personal coach for 5 days straight! I can’t recommend this group of ladies enough. I can’t wait for future trips!

How fit do I need to be?

If you can climb a ladder, you’re good to go. Being in good shape is always a plus but far from necessary. Rock climbing is all about using good movement techniques rather than muscling up a cliff using brute strength. To ensure you have a fun day, your guide will choose routes that best suit your skill and fitness level.

What if I’ve never climbed before?

El Potrero Chico has plenty of options for beginner climbers. Whether you’ve never climbed before or are transitioning from the gym to outdoor climbing, your guide will customize the day to suit your skill level and objectives. The only thing you need is good fitness, endurance, and some enthusiasm! With a guide by your side, you’ll learn something new, stay safe on the rocks, and most importantly, have fun!

For intermediate to advanced climbers, El Potrero Chico has loads of routes to spend the day on. Your guide will discuss your objectives and customize the day to your goals. Let your guide plan the day so you can focus on developing your skills while climbing the classic routes or best hidden gems the area has to offer.

What about required equipment?

All group technical climbing equipment will be provided by your guiding service. This includes items such as ropes, quickdraws, anchors, etc. We highly recommend you bring your own personal gear:

  • Helmet
  • Harness with a locking carabiner, belay device, and chalk bag
  • Shoes

Optional:

  • Belay devices (ATC & GriGri)
  • PAS (Personal Anchor System w/Locking Carbiner)

Here’s a list of the equipment we suggest you bring:

  • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 40L bag)
  • Water bottle
  • Toiletries (sunscreen, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera — optional

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans. To make sure you have everything you need your guide will send you a full packing list prior to the trip.

Getting there and meeting location

To get to Rancho El Sendero where you will be staying, most people fly into Monterrey International Airport. From there, you are an hour’s drive away from Rancho El Sendero. You can rent a car or take a shuttle service to get to the ranch.

Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best place to meet, whether that’s at the guide shop or a predetermined location. The guide will choose the appropriate terrain dependent on conditions and the ability of the group.
