Guided Triple Crown Rock Climbing in Mexico with the Legendary Hans Florine

What’s the biggest difference between okay climbers and great climbers? Efficiency. And that’s what I’m teaching in Mexico. We’re hitting three killer crags, three totally different styles, and a whole lot of technique. Peña de Bernal? Biggest monolith out there. La Concepción? So splitter it’ll ruin every crack climb after it. Las Peñas de Dexcani? Steep, powerful, and ready to test your head game. You’ll jam, crimp, and shake out like you mean it. We’ll dial in footwork, lock down movement, and get your brain firing at speed ascent levels. And when your arms are toast? The town of Aculco’s got rest, tons of queso, and magic-town vibes. This isn’t just a climbing trip—it’s a climbing upgrade! Your future self is already fist-bumping you.

Itinerary

If you’ve ever dreamed of leveling up your climbing game with world-class rock, diverse styles, and expert coaching, this is your trip. The Mexico Triple Crown isn’t just about sending—it’s about climbing smarter, moving efficiently, and crushing with confidence across three distinct crags. From the towering monolith of Peña de Bernal to the flawless cracks of La Concepción and the steep, technical testpieces at Las Peñas de Dexcani, every day is a new challenge. With Hans Florine leading the way, you’ll refine technique, build trust with your belayer, and push past limits.

  • The day will begin by discussing the foundations of climbing and what it is to have a strong and solid partnership between the climber and belayer. The group will consider their individual strengths vs. (perceived) weaknesses, and discuss what everyone is looking to accomplish. This climbing clinic will be taught at La Peña de Bernal. Rising to almost 518 m (1,700 ft) in height, La Peña is the world’s tallest monolith, and a world-class climbing destination.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch
    Accommodation: 4-star hotel

    Pena de Bernal
  • Out of all the different styles of climbing, “crack” seems to be the most ominous for all climbers. It all comes from the fear of what could happen with body parts crammed in constrictions if you fall. What the guide will focus on is dispelling any myths surrounding climbing fissures while teaching proper techniques to succeed. Understanding how to properly hand jam, arm bar, and body compress to move the feet up are critical techniques to understand and master for anyone thinking about traveling to traditional areas to climb. The guide will teach from the ground how to read routes that look anything but easy.

La Concepcion is most likely one of the best (unknown) crack climbing areas on the Northern Continent. The rhyolite is super kind on the hands, and the feet are only in the cracks 10% of the time. Every route in the canyon from the ground to the lip of the cliff are “four star” classic climbs. Every climb is completely different from the route next to it. One long day of climbing at La Concepcion will make anyone a believer.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch
    Accommodation: 4-star hotel

    Crack climbing
  • Rest days provide the mental reprieve needed to recharge focus and motivation. After a nice rest day of relaxing and eating, we will return with renewed enthusiasm and a clearer mindset, ultimately improving our climbing performance.

Aculco de Espinoza, granted the Pueblos Mágico designation in 2015, boasts a rich history dating back to 110 AD when it was settled by the Otomí people. Conquered by the Mexicans in the 14th century, the town was ‘founded’ by the Spanish in the 1500s, with a church built off the main square. With its stunning beauty and diverse attractions, Aculco offers a captivating blend of culture and history. This rest day will include a delicious breakfast to get the day going, and then a personal walking tour of the town will follow.

    Meals: Breakfast
    Accommodation: 4-star hotel

    Rest day in Aculco
  • This day of climbing and learning will be at Las Peñas de Dexcani, located in a private woodland preserve just outside the town of Jilotepec de Molina. Climbers will fortify their skills acquired by using the knowledge gained over the past few days. The goal? To feel comfortable and succeed in a new environment that forces differing techniques and energy conservation. Climbers will be route-finding while the pump clock is ticking.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch
    Accommodation: 4-star hotel

    Climbing on steep terrain
  • Another rest day will be needed as we’ve done so much and everyone’s mind and muscles will be majorly fatigued. This day will be about relaxing and touring the pueblo. Aculco is a very beautiful town that invites people to hang out and enjoy the scenery. From numerous tourist shops, over the crazy amount of cheese shops, to the historical sites, there is so much to see and do.

    Meals: Breakfast
    Accommodation: 4-star hotel

    Rest day in Mexico
  • This day is for everyone who desires another day out at the cliffs to close any crack projects from our first visit. The guides will set up top-ropes all day on classic routes, from easy to difficult, in order to get everyone another day to knock down classic climbs. The four-star pitches never end, and this day will give everyone another opportunity to climb harder and really dial in a technique. Afterwards, we’ll say our goodbyes and depart back home.

I’ve just came back from an amazing climbing trip perfectly organized by Simeom, and by Ulysses a very experienced Mexican climber. We first went to Jilotepec, which was a very good warming up for the next two days in Pena de Bernal, an amazing place for multi-pitches. The last day we were in Aculco, an amazing 30k plus canyon with many multiple crag routes. Simeom planning everything tailored to my experience, shared unique tips for accommodations and local insights. Ulysses was much more than a guide, he helped me to learn many new techniques and climbing knowledge. I will definitely recommend SouthernXposure for those interested to climb in Mexico. You will be with the best professionals and very friendly people.

This is a hidden gem! Simeon has a great program in a beautiful area. Three crags within an hour or so of Aculco with three very different types of rock. Knowledge guides, plenty of moderate sport and trad routes, no crowds, wonderful food, friendly locals – what more could you ask for? These guys have got it hardwired!!
