Unlock authentic Asia, one pedal stroke at a time

Explore beyond the tourist trail

Cycling through Southeast Asia offers an unparalleled, authentic way to experience the region, far beyond what any guidebook can promise. Pedal through Vietnam’s lush rice paddies, stopping at roadside stalls for fresh pho, or wind through the temple-laden landscapes of Cambodia where ancient ruins rise from the jungle.

In Thailand, rural backroads lead you past golden pagodas and local markets brimming with flavors you’ll never find in the tourist hubs. Whether you’re gliding along the pristine beaches of Indonesia or climbing through Laos’ rugged mountain paths, cycling immerses you in the culture, cuisine, and hidden corners of each country—places only two wheels can truly take you.

Our cycling tours are led by the most experienced local guides who don’t just know the routes—they live them. These guides can take you to the tucked-away villages, introduce you to the best street food stalls, and share the stories behind the landscapes you’re riding through.

Whether it’s a quiet temple hidden in the hills or a sunset spot only the locals know, our guides ensure you experience the authentic side of Southeast Asia, far from the well-trodden tourist paths.

Leave the logistics to us—seriously. From securing permits to booking the best local accommodations, we handle every detail so you can focus on the ride. Whether it’s arranging fresh, local meals after a long day on the saddle or making sure your gear is ready to go at sunrise, we’ve got it covered.

Our all-inclusive approach ensures a seamless experience, letting you enjoy the adventure without worrying about the details. Just show up, ride, and we’ll take care of the rest.

No matter your style or skill level, we’ve got a cycling adventure that fits. Whether you’re after the classic routes through Southeast Asia’s iconic landscapes or prefer to explore off-the-beaten-path gems, we’ve crafted itineraries for every type of rider.

Looking for something truly unique? Try our sailing and cycling combo, or opt for a laid-back, family-friendly ride through scenic villages. From hardcore cyclists to those who just want to soak in the sights at a leisurely pace, we have a trip designed for you.

A fantastic experience I would recommend to anyone who can ride a bike! Lee was a brilliant guide and great company for the 10 days we were together. The tour was a perfect combination of biking, seeing the sites and eating excellent food. Thanks for a great trip and I can’t wait for the next one!

Wendy Bircher

Thoroughly enjoyed our bike trip! Saw fascinating places in Bali we would never have seen if not for the interesting routes. Food provided was also delicious. Finally our excellent guide Wayan and very attentive driver Ilham helped make this a truly memorable experience! Everything was terrific.

Gail Cochrane

A fantastic way to see Thailand, you get to cycle in areas you would not normally visit as a tourist and get to eat in very local restaurants. Our guide Natt and van driver Suwat were amazing, you couldn’t improve on the help and service they provided to our group. I will definitely book another tour with SpiceRoads.

Mary Kay Voytilla

Knowledgeable guides eager to share their country with us. This tour provided high value for the cost.

Frequently asked questions about cycling in Southeast Asia

  • A Southeast Asia cycling trip offers a more immersive way to explore one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse regions.

By bike, you’ll experience the landscapes, cultures, and people of each country in a way that’s simply not possible from a bus or train. You’ll ride through remote villages, meet locals going about their daily lives, and taste authentic dishes at roadside stalls that most tourists never find.

Cycling also allows you to bypass the tourist traps and crowded spots, giving you access to hidden temples, serene beaches, and rural backroads. Plus, the physical challenge of the ride is balanced by Southeast Asia’s welcoming spirit, stunning views, and incredible food.

  • The best time to cycle in Southeast Asia generally falls between November and February, during the region’s cooler, drier season. During this time, you can enjoy comfortable temperatures, less humidity, and fewer chances of rain, which is ideal for long days on the bike.

In Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, the dry season means clear skies and manageable heat, while in Indonesia and the Philippines, the monsoon rains subside, revealing beautiful, lush landscapes. The March to May period can still offer great cycling but tends to be much hotter, while June to October marks the rainy season in many parts, which can bring challenges like muddy trails and unpredictable weather.

Overall, the November to February window is perfect for most riders, where you’ll get the best balance between pleasant weather and awesome scenery.

  • The fitness level required for a bike trip in Southeast Asia largely depends on the tour you choose, as there are options for all skill levels. Each one of our trips has a very detailed “How fit do I need to be” section, so make sure to read the one specific to your chosen tour.

Generally, for classic tours that involve longer rides and varied terrain, a moderate fitness level is recommended, especially if you’re cycling 30 to 60 kilometers (18 to 37 miles) a day. Being comfortable on a bike and having some endurance will enhance your experience.

If you opt for family-friendly or leisure rides, you can expect shorter distances and gentler terrain, which makes them suitable for cyclists of all abilities, including beginners. Many tours also allow for flexibility, with support vehicles available to give you a break when needed.

Regardless of the trip, it’s always a good idea to train a bit before your adventure—aim for a mix of longer rides with some elevation change to prep your body for the journey ahead.

  • Southeast Asia is generally considered one of the more affordable regions to travel, especially compared to many Western countries. The cost of living is lower, which means that accommodation, food, transportation, and activities often come at a fraction of the price you might find elsewhere.

Cycling tours in Southeast Asia can vary in cost based on inclusions like accommodations, meals, and guiding services, but they often provide good value, especially when considering the hassle-free logistics and unique experiences they offer. Overall, with a little planning, you can enjoy Southeast Asia for significantly less money than most other areas of the world.
