What do people think of Rock Climbing Trips in Europe?
Mia Williams

Lorenzo, Patrick and Francesco took this experience over the top for me. I was the least experienced climber in the group (having never climbed outdoors prior to this) and my experience was a full as those of my fellow travelers. I also was really impressed with how F and P set a gracious and respectful tone among what was essentially a group of strangers. I was the oldest person on the boat by a couple years and the youngest is 40 years younger than I am so there was quite a spread. It was an absolutely unique, challenging, and inspiring time. Seriously considering Kalymnos fall 2025!!

I would totally recommend the Vertical Sailing Tour experience to any climbers, from the most passionate and advanced to the beginners and the ones that are curious to discover this amazing sport in the best way possible, on a sailing boat ! The team is very professional but above all fun, the best mix to have an incredible climbing experience in the best corners of Europe !

This Vertical Sailing Tour is the best thing since sliced bread and cheese ! A true dream come true!! Well thought out, organized and truly Awesome. From start to finish, professional, easy to work with, Tony and Lorenzo went out of their way to accommodate my needs.

Sebastien
Sebastien is a ski instructor and trekking guide who followed in the footsteps of his father, a mountain guide in Chamonix. He spends winters on skis and summers trekking in the Alps. Apart from Chamonix, his favorite places are the Dolomites, Gran Paradiso, and the Pyrenees. For him, guiding is not just a profession but a way of life. Hiking provides him with an opportunity to reflect, observe, and immerse himself in the natural environment. Through hiking, we nurture our bodies and minds, focusing on ourselves and our surroundings.

After her first contact with the mountains in the Pyrenees, Marta fell in love with the environment and became a hiking guide. While she was traveling the world with her partner, they ended up choosing Chamonix in France as their base — defining it as the best place she ever experienced. Marta leads groups throughout the year, equally enjoying summer and winter, with a particular preference for leading all women groups.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rock Climbing Trips in Europe

  • Absolutely!

Our trips are designed for all skill levels. Beginners can join guided tours or multi-day climbing camps led by experienced instructors who’ll teach you the ropes. Literally.

You’ll learn essential techniques, safety practices, and route reading, all at a pace that works for you. By the end of the trip, even total newbies will have sent their first routes and gained confidence to tackle more advanced climbs.

  • Depends on what you’re into. Europe has something for everyone.

Kalymnos in Greece is world-famous for its world-class limestone sport climbs. The Dolomites in Italy offer jaw-dropping routes on spiral spires. Frankenjura in Germany boasts thousands of sport climbs in a limestone wonderland with easy approaches, Chamonix in France is ideal for rugged mixed adventures, and Sardinia combines climbs with epic Mediterranean views.

Each destination has its own style, atmosphere, and hidden gems that our guides know intimately, so you get the best lines without the crowds.

  • We always recommend packing light, but smart.

Essentials include climbing shoes, a harness, helmet, chalk bag, belay device, and weather-appropriate layers. For longer trips, get trekking shoes, sun protection, and a small daypack. Don’t worry about ropes, slings, or group gear. Most guides provide that.

Basically, show up ready to climb, and leave the heavy lifting and logistics to us. A good attitude and curiosity go a long way too.

Please note that each trip has its own gear requirements. Make sure to check the “What do I need to bring?” section of your chosen adventure.

  • For most climbers, spring and fall are the sweet spots: the weather is pleasant, the rock is grippy, and the crags are far less crowded. However, you can find fantastic climbing in Europe year-round.

Summer can be great too, especially in alpine regions, but expect warmer temps and more fellow climbers. Winter trips are possible in the southern regions or for mixed climbing in the Alps if you’re looking for a more adventurous experience.

Each season has its perks, and our guides can help you pick the best window for the type of climbing you want.

  • Technically, you could climb on your own if you know the areas. But having a local guide is a game-changer.

Our guides know all the hidden gems, the safest lines, the best approaches, and how to avoid the crowded crags. They also show you where to eat, relax, and enjoy the local culture after a day on the rock. Beyond safety and logistics, guides make your trip smoother, more fun, and more memorable. They can really turn a good climbing trip into an unforgettable adventure.
