From desert canyons to alpine peaks, unforgettable adventures await

Utah is a hiker’s dream, with an extraordinary range of landscapes that seem pulled from another planet. From the red rock canyons of Zion National Park to the surreal hoodoos of Bryce Canyon and the towering cliffs of Capitol Reef, the state is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. You can explore the winding corridors of The Narrows or challenge yourself on the steep switchbacks of Angels Landing, where every step is rewarded with views to die for. Beyond the well-known parks, Utah also offers quieter, lesser-known trails like those in the Uinta Mountains or the remote grandeur of the San Rafael Swell. Whether you want an easy stroll through alpine meadows or a rugged multi-day trek through desert wilderness, Utah promises adventure at every turn.

  • The Narrows: Wading through the cool waters of the Virgin River between towering canyon walls is an unforgettable experience. The Narrows takes you deep into Zion’s narrow slot canyons, where every twist reveals a dramatic new landscape.
  • Paria River Canyon: A hidden gem in southern Utah, Paria River Canyon offers solitude and striking beauty. The multi-day hike through its deep, winding slot canyons is a true wilderness adventure, with dramatic rock formations and an otherworldly feel.

Incredible company. Personal service, kind people, experienced and knowledgeable guides. Mel and Maddi were excellent backpacking guides for two backpacking trips in Coyote Gulch and Reflection Canyon. Mike was super knowledgeable about geology and history of the area on our day tour to South Coyote Buttes. I think I could spend many days in Kanab just going out with Dreamland on their various tours! Look no further!

Ashland R

We had such a great time on both of our tours in the Narrows with Nick and on Angel’s Landing with AJ! Both guides were friendly, outgoing and informative which added that little something extra to our adventures. We would highly recommend!

Amy C

Frequently asked questions about Utah hiking tours

  • Yes, Utah has some of the best hiking in the U.S. The state’s mix of desert landscapes, red rock canyons, and towering mountains offers a huge variety of trails for all skill levels. Whether you’re into challenging climbs like Angel’s Landing or scenic walks through places like Bryce Canyon, you’ll find it all on Utah hiking & backpacking trips.

  • The best seasons for hiking & walking tours in Utah are spring (April to June) and fall (September to November).

During these times, the weather is mild, and you avoid the extreme summer heat, which is especially unbearable in desert areas. Spring brings blooming wildflowers, while fall offers cooler temperatures and beautiful autumn colors. If you’re hiking at higher elevations or in the mountains, summer is also great as the snow has usually melted by then.

  • Yes, beginners can definitely hike in Zion National Park. While it’s known for challenging hikes like Angel’s Landing, there are also plenty of easy and scenic trails for less experienced hikers.

For example, the Riverside Walk is a flat, paved trail that follows the Virgin River and offers stunning views. The Emerald Pools Trail is another popular option, with multiple routes ranging from easy to moderate, leading to beautiful waterfalls and pools. Beginners can enjoy Zion just as much as experienced hikers.

  • The most famous hiking trail in Utah is Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park.

Known for its thrilling, narrow ridges and breathtaking views of Zion Canyon, it’s visited by thousands of adventurers worldwide, which often leads to lines forming on the trail. The most iconic section of the trail has to be its challenging final stretch, with chains bolted into the rock for safety.

  • Tough question, but our choice would be King’s Peak, the hike to the state’s highest point at 13,528 feet. Located in the Uinta Mountains, this challenging 28-mile round-trip hike requires stamina, as it involves steep climbs, rocky terrain, and high-altitude conditions. The long distance and elevation gain make it a tough trek even for experienced hikers.

  • Yes, hiking in Utah can be safe, but it’s important to take precautions

Stick to marked trails, stay aware of your surroundings, and be prepared for varying weather conditions. Hydration is crucial, especially in desert areas where temperatures can rise quickly. Always carry a map or use a reliable GPS, and let someone know your hiking plans. By following these safety tips, you can enjoy Utah’s stunning landscapes while minimizing risks.

If you want your Utah hiking vacation to go as safely and smoothly as possible, make sure you go with a guide.
