Unlock authentic Asia, one pedal stroke at a time

Explore beyond the tourist trail

Cycling across Asia offers an unparalleled, authentic way to experience the continent, far beyond what any guidebook can promise. Pedal through Vietnam’s lush rice paddies, stopping at roadside stalls for fresh pho, or wind through Japan’s countryside where cherry blossoms line quiet backroads few tourists ever find.

In Thailand, rural routes lead past golden pagodas and local markets brimming with flavors you’ll never taste in the tourist hubs. Whether you’re gliding along Bali’s coastline, climbing into Nepal’s Himalayan foothills, or crossing Mongolia’s open steppe, cycling immerses you in the culture, cuisine, and hidden corners of each country, places only two wheels can truly take you.

Local expertise, wherever you land

Our cycling tours are led by the most experienced local guides who don’t just know the routes—they live them. These guides can take you to the tucked-away villages, introduce you to the best street food stalls, and share the stories behind the landscapes you’re riding through.

Whether it’s a quiet temple hidden in the hills of Vietnam, a mountain lodge in Nepal’s Solukhumbu region, or a nomadic family’s ger camp near Mongolia’s Orkhon Valley, our guides ensure you experience the authentic side of Asia, far from the well-trodden tourist paths.

No planning, just pedaling

Leave the logistics to us, seriously. From securing permits to booking the best local accommodations, we handle every detail so you can focus on the ride. Whether it’s arranging fresh, local meals after a long day on the saddle or making sure your gear is ready to go at sunrise, we’ve got it covered.

Most trips are fully guided, but a few routes also come in a self-guided version for riders who’d rather set their own pace, with route notes, luggage transfers, and accommodation still sorted for you. Either way, our all-inclusive approach ensures a seamless experience, letting you enjoy the adventure without worrying about the details. Just show up, ride, and we’ll take care of the rest.

What do people think of Asia Bike Tours?
Jemma Senczyszyn

A fantastic experience I would recommend to anyone who can ride a bike! Lee was a brilliant guide and great company for the 10 days we were together. The tour was a perfect combination of biking, seeing the sites and eating excellent food. Thanks for a great trip and I can’t wait for the next one!

Gail Cochrane

A fantastic way to see Thailand, you get to cycle in areas you would not normally visit as a tourist and get to eat in very local restaurants. Our guide Natt and van driver Suwat were amazing, you couldn’t improve on the help and service they provided to our group. I will definitely book another tour.

Mary Kay Voytilla

Knowledgeable guides eager to share their country with us. This tour provided high value for the cost.

Anne Cowan

SpiceRoads is our go-to company for cycle tours. Their guides are friendly, engaging, and full of knowledge about the local areas. We had absolutely fantastic food every day and the accommodations were varied and unique. We cannot recommend this tour enough.

Frequently asked questions about cycling in Southeast Asia

  • An Asia cycling trip offers a more immersive way to explore one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse continents.

By bike, you’ll experience the landscapes, cultures, and people of each country in a way that’s simply not possible from a bus or train. You’ll ride through remote villages, meet locals going about their daily lives, and taste authentic dishes at roadside stalls that most tourists never find.

Cycling also allows you to bypass the tourist traps and crowded spots, giving you access to hidden temples, serene beaches, and Himalayan trails alike. Plus, most trips come with a local guide who knows the roads best, though a few routes are also offered self-guided for riders who’d rather set their own pace.

  • It depends heavily on where you’re headed, since this hub spans everything from tropical islands to high-altitude mountains.

For Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, and the Philippines, the sweet spot generally falls between November and February, during the region’s cooler, drier season, with clear skies and manageable heat. March to May can still offer great riding but tends to be hotter, while June to October marks the rainy season in many parts.

For Japan, spring (cherry blossoms) and autumn (foliage) are the classic windows. Nepal’s mountain biking season runs roughly spring through autumn, avoiding the winter snow and summer monsoon at altitude. Mongolia’s steppe is best ridden in summer, when the ground is dry and the days are long.

  • The fitness level required largely depends on the tour and region you choose, as there are options for all skill levels. Each trip has a very detailed “How fit do I need to be” section, so make sure to read the one specific to your chosen tour.

Generally, for classic touring routes through Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, and Japan, a moderate fitness level is recommended, especially on days covering 30 to 60 kilometers (18 to 37 miles). Being comfortable on a bike and having some endurance will enhance your experience.

The Mountain Biking Expeditions category (Nepal, Mongolia, Cappadocia) is a step up: expect technical terrain, altitude, and the need for prior off-road experience. Many tours also allow for flexibility, with support vehicles or self-guided pacing available when needed.

  • Costs vary widely across the continent, but much of it, especially Southeast Asia, is considered among the more affordable regions to travel compared to many Western countries. Lower costs of living mean accommodation, food, and local transport often come at a fraction of the price you’d find elsewhere.

Cycling tours can vary in cost based on inclusions like accommodations, meals, and guiding services, but they often provide good value given the hassle-free logistics and unique experiences on offer. Trips into Japan, Nepal, or Mongolia tend to run higher due to permits, remoteness, or specialized gear, but overall, with a little planning, Asia remains one of the best-value cycling destinations in the world.

  • Most of the time, yes. The majority of trips on this hub come with a professional local guide who knows the roads, the culture, and the terrain inside out. A handful of routes are also offered self-guided, with detailed route notes and support in place, for riders who’d rather ride at their own pace without a guide alongside them. Check the individual trip page to see which option applies.
