River valleys built for riding
Germany’s great rivers do a lot of the work for you. The Moselle Cycle Path runs almost entirely car-free and nearly flat for 190 km between Trier and Koblenz; the Rhine Cycle Route through the UNESCO Middle Rhine Valley is much the same story. Follow the water and the route mostly follows itself—vineyards climbing the hillsides on one side, half-timbered wine villages on the other, and barely a hill to worry about.
