Hiking in New Zealand

Hike your way across the mystical lands of Oceania
View to Mount Taranaki (Egmont) at clear sky.
Roys Peak , Wanaka (in my opinion the best one day walk in NZ…. the views just keeping better)…the view looks out over the Diamond Lake conservation area of Mt Aspiring National Park

Hiker’s paradise in the corner of the globe

Harmony and heritage

New Zealand’s landscapes are a visual feast of diversity and contrasts. From towering mountain ranges to pristine beaches, lush rainforests to volcanic plateaus, the country offers a stunning variety of environments within a relatively small geographic area.

Hike the days away and discover New Zealand’s cultural richness shaped by the fusion of Māori myths and European influences, creating a unique and vibrant tapestry. Spend your evenings in cozy campsites and bustling huts, eating delicious food, and sleeping under the starry skies. Wherever you go, you will find folklore deep-rooted in tribal culture coupled with unspoiled and unpopulated landscapes.

He was the perfect combination of professional and relaxed with an obvious passion for the country he was showing us.

Hiking New Zealand’s Uncut hike was fabulous. It was a non-stop adventure to places I would have had great difficulty locating and traversing. The guides were over-the-top (Adrian, Mitch, Dan, Katie) helpful on both tours of the North and South Islands. I always felt safe, comfortable, well-exercised and entertained. Meals were substantial and at times over-the-top. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see a most beautiful country, and doing it by hiking (and the odd bus ride, too)!

We had a fabulous trip with guides Andre and Katie. So many great hikes and activities covering so many iconic spots throughout the South Island. Small friendly group, well-paced for a range of fitness levels, comfy accommodations. Can’t say enough great things about this trip. Far exceeded our expectations.

Recently back from the Southern Slice trip – it really WAS a Wonderful Trip! The walks which had been chosen really were iconic walks showcasing what the South Island has to offer. John was a great guide and driver, the distances we travelled each day were relaxing, safe, enjoyable. Eva looked after us non stop, I don’t know how she did it! She not only guided us in a very professional way but shopped for us, prepared our lunch, and provided us with a constant supply of snacks! The whole trip was really well organised and well thought out, many thanks to Eva, John and Hiking New Zealand for a FAB experience, would recommend it to anybody!

We booked last minute and were incredibly fortunate to have the afternoon to ourselves. Literally just the two of us + our brilliant guide, and millions of cubic meters of ice. The staff was great and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced on ice. Truly one of the must-do bucket list experiences to tick off when in new Zealand.

Excellent in every way. Luxury accommodation, meals and service with spectacular itinerary and first class guides (two per minibus). Challenging walks and exciting excursions without white knuckle experiences, and there is always an easier option if required. Every day is filled with activities or travelling and suites solos, families and groups of moderate or better walking abilities. Worth every penny, enjoyed every minute.

This tour was absolutely amazing. Our guide (Justin) was extremely knowledgable, friendly, and fun! He planned the adventure around the weather and everyone’s needs. This was an unforgettable experience and I highly recommend it.

In 5 days there is a lot packed in, but the pace feels about right. Lots of lovely walks, with the Tongariro crossing the last and most spectacular. Very good accommodation and meals along the way. A thoroughly enjoyable way to see the natural beauty of the north island.

Loved every moment of the tour! I did the Marlborough & West Coast cycle ride and it was a blast, not only the riding but the hotels and restaurants that were part of the package were excellent. Our guide, Peter was amazing, always available, helping, and giving more then expected. He gave us lessons on the area, the animals, birds and offered extra biking and walks. Healthy snacks were provided along with tea stops in the morning. The rental bike was very nice but could have used a few more gears. Highly recommended!

My recent Alps to Ocean adventure was so much more than I had expected. The communication beforehand made everything clear, the guides went above and beyond my expectations, the accommodation was fantastic and all the little things (daily briefings, morning teas, helpful assistance for those unfamiliar with an e-bike etc) made the ride so much more enjoyable. I would encourage anyone thinking about riding the Alps to Ocean, or tackling any of the other adventures that Adventure South offer, to make contact with them and to embrace the opportunity.

Adventure South NZ (and Mike, my guide) was a great guide to the southern island. Organized, knowledgeable, kind and fun. Had a great time.
