There’s a version of Yosemite that skips the shuttle lines and the parking scramble, and this retreat lives there. Based in the eastern gateway town of Lee Vining, four days unfold around short hikes to alpine lakes, granite domes, and quiet viewpoints, with a single full day reserved for Yosemite Valley’s greatest hits. It’s a small women-only group, a pace built for conversation and photos rather than mileage, and evenings spent over trailside dinners and local mountain-town cooking. Come see the High Sierra without the crowds.

Adventure Highlights

  • The quiet side of Yosemite: Trails, lakes, and viewpoints on the park’s eastern edge stay well clear of Valley crowds

The adventure, day by day

Four days on the quiet eastern side of Yosemite bring together short, scenic hikes, a full day in Yosemite Valley, and a home base in the mountain town of Lee Vining. The pace is easy and beginner-friendly, with hikes kept short and gently graded so there's plenty of room to take in the alpine lakes, granite peaks, and sweeping views along Tioga Road. Evenings feature trailside dinners and local restaurant favorites that lean into the charm of this small Eastern Sierra town.

Day 1: Welcome to Yosemite's high country
Mono Lake in Cali

The adventure begins with a drive from Reno to Lee Vining, California, home base for the next three nights. After checking in and switching into hiking gear, we meet the guide and head into Yosemite National Park via Tioga Road for an afternoon hike to Gaylor Lakes. It’s a short but rewarding introduction to Yosemite’s alpine scenery, with sweeping mountain views and crystal-clear lakes along the way. A scenic trailside dinner rounds out the day before heading back to Lee Vining for the night.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Motel in Lee Vining
Hiking: 4.8 km (3 mi), 2-2.5 hrs
Elevation gain: 180 m (600 ft)

Day 2: Alpine lakes and mountain-town charm
Yosemite great view

After breakfast, it’s back into Yosemite’s high country for a hike to May Lake, one of the park’s classic alpine destinations. Surrounded by granite peaks and quiet scenery, it’s a good spot to slow down and take in a calmer side of Yosemite. Back in Lee Vining, there’s time to relax before dinner at one of the guide’s favorite casual local restaurants, a good showcase of this welcoming Eastern Sierra mountain town.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Motel in Lee Vining
Hiking: 8 km (5 mi), 3-4 hrs
Elevation gain: 150 m (500 ft)

Day 3: Yosemite Valley highlights
Sunset Yosemite and women

Today is dedicated to Yosemite Valley’s world-famous scenery, with stops at Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Sentinel Bridge, and Cook’s Meadow along the way. Rather than rushing between stops, the day moves slowly enough to take in the park’s geology, wildlife, and history at each one. It wraps up with a memorable picnic dinner at a scenic overlook as evening light settles over Half Dome, before heading back to Lee Vining.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Motel in Lee Vining
Hiking: 3.2 km (2 mi)
Elevation gain: Minimal

Day 4: A High Sierra finale
Yosemite vista

The final morning starts with one last drive along Tioga Road to hike Lembert Dome. The steady climb rewards with sweeping views across Tuolumne Meadows and the surrounding High Sierra, a fitting finale to the trip. After the hike, lunch together caps things off before the drive back to Reno for afternoon departures.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Hiking: 6.4 km (4 mi), 2.5-3.5 hrs
Elevation gain: 275 m (900 ft)

Truly the best experience for anyone looking to tackle their first backpacking adventure and gain the confidence to do it again!

This was my first “real” backpacking adventure and I was nervous about a lot of elements. Mainly, the  altitude, my stamina and physical ability (and bears). Tinn was my guide and couldn’t have been more kind and patient with me. Understanding my fears and encouraging  me all the way. She was delightful and easy to chat with.

I had a wonderful time in Yosemite with this group.  The guides are so friendly and knowledgeable.  We felt pampered with the delicious dinners, snacks galore, wonderful coffee and tea.  I’m in my early 60s and worried that the trails would be too difficult but there were plenty of trails that I was comfortable with.
