  • Four days on the quiet eastern side of Yosemite bring together short, scenic hikes, a full day in Yosemite Valley, and a home base in the mountain town of Lee Vining. The pace is easy and beginner-friendly, with hikes kept short and gently graded so there's plenty of room to take in the alpine lakes, granite peaks, and sweeping views along Tioga Road. Evenings feature trailside dinners and local restaurant favorites that lean into the charm of this small Eastern Sierra town.

    • The adventure begins with a drive from Reno to Lee Vining, California, home base for the next three nights. After checking in and switching into hiking gear, we meet the guide and head into Yosemite National Park via Tioga Road for an afternoon hike to Gaylor Lakes. It’s a short but rewarding introduction to Yosemite’s alpine scenery, with sweeping mountain views and crystal-clear lakes along the way. A scenic trailside dinner rounds out the day before heading back to Lee Vining for the night.

      Accommodation: Motel in Lee Vining
      Hiking: 4.8 km (3 mi), 2-2.5 hrs

      Mono Lake in Cali
    • After breakfast, it’s back into Yosemite’s high country for a hike to May Lake, one of the park’s classic alpine destinations. Surrounded by granite peaks and quiet scenery, it’s a good spot to slow down and take in a calmer side of Yosemite. Back in Lee Vining, there’s time to relax before dinner at one of the guide’s favorite casual local restaurants, a good showcase of this welcoming Eastern Sierra mountain town.

      Yosemite great view
    • Today is dedicated to Yosemite Valley’s world-famous scenery, with stops at Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Sentinel Bridge, and Cook’s Meadow along the way. Rather than rushing between stops, the day moves slowly enough to take in the park’s geology, wildlife, and history at each one. It wraps up with a memorable picnic dinner at a scenic overlook as evening light settles over Half Dome, before heading back to Lee Vining.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Accommodation: Motel in Lee Vining
      Hiking: 3.2 km (2 mi)

The pace favors enjoying the scenery over covering ground, so if walking comfortably on uneven trails for a few hours at a time sounds appealing, this trip is a good fit.
