All-Women New Mexico Tour: Hike & Explore the Land of Enchantment

In one afternoon in New Mexico, you can touch a 3,000-year-old petroglyph, scramble across a lava flow, and still have time for margaritas. This women-only adventure packs the best of the Southwest into eight perfect days, connecting ancient cultural sites with impossibly beautiful landscapes. We’ll explore Chaco’s mysterious ruins, climb into Bandelier’s cliff dwellings, and take in the red rock landscapes that inspired Georgia O’Keeffe. After days filled with adventure, we’ll kick back with local delicacies in historic lodgings and laugh late into the night under star-filled skies. This is New Mexico in its rawest form—dusty, ancient, a little wild, and served with a salt rim. Vamos!

All-Women New Mexico Tour: Hike & Culture

Journey through New Mexico's rich tapestry of ancient civilizations and dramatic landscapes on this 8-day women's hiking adventure. From Albuquerque to Santa Fe, we'll explore Petroglyph National Monument's ancient rock art, El Malpais' volcanic terrain, Chaco Canyon's astronomical wonders, Ghost Ranch's painted desert, Bandelier's cliff dwellings, and more. With cozy accommodations, nearly all meals, and entrance fees taken care of, we’ll fully experience the magic of New Mexico.

Both itineraries have the same inclusions and major highlights. This option includes exploration of Old Town Albuquerque on Day 2 and a cultural visit to Taos Pueblo on Day 6.

  • Our adventure begins at 1pm in Albuquerque, where we’ll meet the group and guides at the hotel. In the afternoon, we’ll hike the Mesa Point Trail in Petroglyph National Monument, passing lots of petroglyphs from different ages before reaching a scenic 360-degree view of Albuquerque, the Sandia mountains, the Sangre de Cristos, and extinct volcanoes. We’ll enjoy a picnic dinner and watch the sunset over Albuquerque.

  • After breakfast, we explore Albuquerque Old Town, its charming streets and artisan shops. We’ll visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center to learn about Pueblo culture and see a traditional dance. In the afternoon, we’ll head to El Malpais National Monument to explore a 3,000-year-old lava flow.

  • We’ll get an early start for a full day at Chaco Canyon, the center of Ancient Puebloan culture. We’ll visit ruins and see evidence of a very advanced civilization in Puebloan building techniques, irrigation systems, and astronomical observations. The isolation and vastness of the area contribute to its sense of mystery and majesty. In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Ghost Ranch Retreat Center, stopping for dinner en route.

  • We’ll have a relaxed morning surrounded by the colorful rock walls of Ghost Ranch Retreat Center, made famous by painter Georgia O’Keeffe. The day is yours to explore the stunning national environment and rich history however you see fit.

    The guides will lead optional hikes, including a short but steep climb to the panoramic views of the Chimney Rock Trail. You may also explore historic tours, museums, or trail rides. We’ll gather for meals and a campfire in the evening.

  • In the morning we’ll head to Bandelier National Monument, home to the Ancestral Pueblo people from the 12th to the 16th century. We start with a hike on the Tsankawi Loop trail, passing unexcavated Ancestral Pueblo ruins and cliff dwellings. Then, we’ll explore Frijoles Canyon’s ruins and stop by the Visitor Center.

    After exploring the trails and ruins of Bandelier, we’ll head to Santa Fe for a walking tour of the city and its historic sites.

  • We’ll depart our accommodation early and visit Taos Pueblo, a city whose multi-storied pueblo buildings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, we’ll go on a hike with great views of the Rio Grande river. After hiking and a few more cultural stops, we’ll visit Santuario de Chimayo, a small shrine from 1813 near the Old Spanish Trail. Once we’re back in Santa Fe, dinner is on your own to explore the city’s culinary options.

  • Today we’ll hike in the mountains behind Santa Fe on a scenic 4.5-mile (7.2-kilometer) loop through aspen and pine forests. After lunch by Tesuque Creek, we’ll head back up onto the ridge to complete the loop. We’ll take our time and enjoy the scenery at 8,900 ft (2,713 m) above sea level.

    Once we return to town, the rest of the afternoon is free to explore Santa Fe’s museums, galleries, or visit the Ten Thousand Waves Japanese-style spa (coordinate with your guides). If you’d rather stay in town, you can wander the galleries of Canyon Road or visit the Museum of International Folk Art, or Georgia O’ Keeffe Museum. We’ll gather for a final dinner and enjoy New Mexican cuisine at a nearby restaurant.

  • We’ll enjoy our last breakfast together before making our way back to Albuquerque. If you’re driving, you can plan to leave by 9:30am. If you’re flying, your guides will return you to the Albuquerque airport by 10:30am for a flight out after 12:30pm.

  • This New Mexico tour mixes being active in the outdoors with historical and cultural exploration, making it appropriate for active women with a basic fitness level. You’ll hike up to 5 miles (8 km) per day with up to 1,240 ft (378 m) of elevation gain/loss.

    The option with kayaking and rafting includes approximately 8 miles (13 km) of kayaking on gentle waters and rafting on Class 2-3 rapids (considered beginner to moderate).

    If you walk regularly at a brisk pace 3-4 days a week for 35-45 minutes, you’ll enjoy this adventure.

    Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season and activity. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

  • This New Mexico tour runs in May and September when the weather is very pleasant! May in New Mexico is warm and dry, with sunny days, cool nights, and little rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities before the summer heat sets in. September brings warm days and cooler nights, with a chance of lingering monsoon showers early in the month, but generally pleasant fall-like conditions.

  • Group sizes and pricing

      • For this New Mexico tour, the usual client-to-guide ratio is 6:1. One or two guides will accompany you on this adventure.
      • It takes a minimum of 6 people for this tour to operate. The maximum group size is set at 12 participants.
      • Solo travelers can either share a room or pay a single supplement at checkout. Please note that the single supplement is mandatory if you’re joining the Nov 1, 2025 departure by yourself.

    A New Mexico tour can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

    Min. age requirements

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the New Mexico tour on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    If your group has participants under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

  • The starting point of your New Mexico tour is Albuquerque. To get there, most people fly into Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ). From there, you can take a shuttle service, public transport, or rent a car to reach Albuquerque. If you’re traveling by car, you can leave it in the parking lot of your hotel.

    Once you’re there, you will meet your guide at 1pm at your hotel in Albuquerque. Please plan to arrive at the airport by 12pm on Day 1 to make the meeting time.

    Secure your spot with a 30% deposit upon booking! The remaining 70% of the trip price must be paid 90 days prior to departure at the latest. If booking within 90 days of departure, the full amount is required at the time of booking.

    Booking fees are non-refundable after a 48-hour grace period. During checkout, however, you can choose one of 57hours’ flexibility options—Basic, Flexible, or Super Flexible. Depending on which one you choose, a different cancellation policy will apply to your booking.

      • If canceled 90 or more days before departure, a 70% refund of the total trip price will be issued.
      • If canceled within 89 days of departure, no refund will be issued.
