Tucked away in the rugged Julian Alps—near the border with Italy and Austria—is the alpine village of Kranjska Gora, one of the best places for ice climbing in Slovenia. Warm up on the welcoming waterfalls of Mount Prisank then tackle the challenging clusters of cascading daggers and chutes full of chandelier, cauliflower, and candlestick ice around Tamar valley, Lake Predel, or the Planica valley. Some of these lines reach a spine-chilling 150m (492 ft) in height! With most visitors hitting the renowned ski slopes, let the only thing you hear on the side of the mountain be the thwack of your ice tools and crunch from your crampons. At the end of the day, welcome the feeling back into your hands over plum schnapps and delicious dumplings.
