Itinerary

Scratch your explorer’s itch by going on a 6-day journey in Slovenia through the Julian Alps & Karawank Mountains. A super experienced guide will be joining you on these day hikes, making sure you don’t miss a single gem while you’re here. You’ll be based in the outdoor hub of Kranjska Gora and you’ll visit different mountain huts every day, giving you the chance to taste Slovenian delectable dishes and experience their hospitality. With a new show-stopping location and view every single day, you’ll never want this trip to end.

  • As you will start your hike right away in the morning, make sure to arrive to Kranjska Gora at least a day prior to the official start of the hiking adventure.   • After meeting with your guide and your group in Kranjska Gora, take a short transfer (12 km / 7 miles) to start your hike! Walking starts up from Vršič Pass to Vratca Saddle and continues under the north face of Mala Mojstrovka to Slemenova Špica—a peak boasting spectacular views of the peaks from Mala Mojstrovka to Jalovec. After a break, descend back down to Vršič Pass. You’ll get transferred back to Kranjska Gora.

  • Get transferred to Planina pod Golico village (27 km / 17 miles) to start today’s hike. The path leads you through the woods to Golica mountain hut. After a short break at the hut, continue to the Golica peak at 1,835 m (6,020 ft) providing a beautiful view over the Julian Alps. Once you’re ready, descend the same way back down to the Golica Hut. Here is where you’ll taste local food and drinks. Go back down to Planina pod Golico and transfer back to Kranjska Gora.

  • Today you’re going to start walking from Kranjska Gora. The path leads you through woods to Mahovje, one of the sources of Martuljek falls, situated below one of Slovenia’s most scenic mountain peaks. Then you’ll visit the second Martuljek waterfall, an astounding 50-meter (165-foot) mighty stream of water falling down a white rocky wall. After a short break and some photo-ops, descend down to Ingo timber hut—it’s time for some local food and drinks! Once you’ve refueled, descend down to the Martuljek village through the gorge and one of the waterfalls. Transfer back to Kranjska Gora.

  • Transfer to Jurezova planina (12 km / 7.5 miles), from where a climb up to Vosca meadow starts. Spectacular Alpine peaks will be surrounding you—Martuljek peaks, Razor, Prisojnik, Jalovec, Mangart, just to name a few. The path leads you further onto the ridge (which is actually a border between Slovenia and Austria!), all the way to Trupejevo poldne peak. After a break on the top, descend down to Zeleznica. There’s no mountain hut on today’s route so you’ll bring a picnic lunch or a snack with you. Get back to Kranjska Gora.

  • To start today’s hike, take a 20-kilometer (12.5-mile) ride over Vršič Pass to Trenta at the source of Soča River. Soča River Trail is the oldest and longest natural trail in Triglav National Park—it connects footpaths, secluded spots, and remote corners of the valley. This emerald river is sure to be a lifelong memory, and something particularly interesting are picturesque bridges along the river.

  • Get to your final hike by transferring to Peričnik waterfall—Slovenia’s pride and joy, falling 16 m (52 feet) down the first ridge, and then 52 m (170 ft) down to the bottom. The Peričnik waterfall is a reminder of the ice age, during which the largest glacier valley Vrata was shaped. This is a spectacular valley stretching from Mojstrana to the foothills of the North Face of Triglav (the highest peak of the Julian Alps and Slovenia), After the mighty waterfall, continue with transfer to Mojstrana (14 km / 9 miles), from where you start to hike through Vrata Valley, boasting numerous viewpoint. Walk up to the Luknja saddle under the Triglav North Face—one of the biggest faces in the Eastern Alps! On the way back, stop over at Aljažev Hut for a lunch break. Transfer back to Kranjska Gora and enjoy your well-deserved rest.

Slovenian IFMGA Mountain Guide Klemen Gricar has 20 years of experience guiding rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering tours. Based out of the Julian Alps, he’s also an avid mountain photographer, a member of the Kranjska Gora mountain rescue team, and was even president of the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association between 2009-2013.

  • To join this hiking tour in Kranjska Gora and Julian Alps, participants must be in great physical condition. You will be hiking up to 8 hours a day for six days in a row, covering up to 900 m (2,953 ft) of ascent in a single day. Make sure you’re capable of achieving these daily hikes. Although hiking experience is not required, this can be a strenuous hike for first-time hikers, so just make sure you’re comfortable hiking around 8 hours a day for the whole trip.

  • Here’s a list of personal items you need to bring:

      • Backpack large enough to carry all things you might need throughout the day (around a 35-40L bag)
      • Water bottle or hydration bladder (min. 2L capacity)

    Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

  • Group sizes and prices:

      • For this group hiking tour in Kranjska Gora and Julian Alps, the usual client-to-guide ratio is 6:1.
      • It takes a minimum of 2 people for this tour to operate.
      • The cost per person decreases as the group grows, so it’s the perfect opportunity to hike with friends and family!

    Min. age requirements:

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

  • To get to Kranjska Gora, most people fly into Ljubljana Airport (LJU), an hour away from Kranjska Gora. Other nearby airports include the two Venice airports (Venice Treviso (TSF) or Venice Marco Polo (VCE)), both of which are about 3 hours away.

    You’ll meet your guide on Day 1 in Kranjska Gora. Make sure to arrive a day or two early, as you’ll get straight into hiking on the first day. Your guide will suggest the best place to meet, whether that’s at the guide shop or a predetermined location.

  • We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with both emergency medical and travel insurance. With medical insurance, if you have an accident or medical emergency on or off the mountain, you’ll avoid paying out of pocket for costly expenses. This covers everything from hospital treatments to emergency air transportation and more. Travel insurance covers canceled flights, natural disasters and other scenarios that may interrupt your travel plans.

    We also expect you to respect local regulations and take measures to protect yourselves, your guides, and the communities you’re traveling to. For more information on travel recommendations and restrictions in Slovenia, please refer to Slovenia’s travel advice.

  • Secure your spot for the following season with a 10% deposit! This tour gets sold out very quickly, but with early-bird booking, you’ll be the first one to know. Pick the month that suits you best and we’ll let you know once the dates are live—don’t risk missing out on your bucket list adventure!

    • Only 10% of the total amount should be paid as a deposit upon booking. This deposit is non-refundable, but can be transferred to another 57hours adventure anytime in case the dates don’t suit you.
    • Once the set dates for the following season are live, you can confirm your booking by the end of this year by paying another 20% of the total amount.
    • The final balance is due 3 months (90 days) prior to departure.
    • Once the trip has been confirmed, the regular cancellation policy applies.

    To secure your spot, a deposit in the amount of 30% is required at the time of booking. The remaining amount must be paid 90 calendar days prior to the trip departure. Once the trip is confirmed by the guide, the cancellation policy stated below applies.

      • If Client cancels the Booking anytime prior to sixty (60) calendar days in advance of the trip contemplated by the booking, Client is entitled to a full refund.
      • For cancellations forty-five (45) to fifty-nine (59) calendar days in advance, Client is entitled to a refund in the amount of fifty percent (50%) of the total amount paid when Booking.
      • For cancellations thirty (30) to forty-four (44) calendar days in advance, Client is entitled to a refund in the amount of twenty-five percent (25%) of the total amount paid when Booking.
      • After that deadline, Client is not entitled to any refund. Any reimbursable expenses arising out of the Booking incurred by Guide prior to the date of cancellation (including but not limited to plane tickets, car rental payments, and lodging or transportation fees) are non-refundable as soon as they are incurred by the Guide.

    Please note that booking fees are non-refundable in all cases and will be deducted from the refund amount.
