Shake off winter and swap gray skies for desert sun on this all-women hiking adventure across two of California’s most iconic national parks! We start low, in the sun-scorched badlands and salt flats of Death Valley, then climb into the boulder-strewn high desert of Joshua Tree, where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet. Along the way, we wander a ghost town, a spring-fed oasis, and the rim of an old volcanic crater, with wide-open skies for stargazing after dark. With a group of no more than 12 and guides who know the geology and history inside out, it’s easy to feel at home fast.

I have really enjoyed exploring National Parks with these guides. It’s such a luxury to have the trip logistics all planned and get to enjoy the experience with like minded, adventurous women. Death Valley is something to see and we had the good fortune of excellent sunny weather (but not too hot) and were able to witness a desert super bloom. I really enjoyed DV but my heart was stolen by Joshua Tree. Thanks to the excellent introduction to the area of 29 Palms and to the park itself, I plan to return some day to repeat the hikes and to enjoy more time in the park. Magical!

The guides were excellent, providing strong leadership and support with joy, humor and grace. The destinations were beautiful and we lucked into perfect weather and even a “wildflower superbloom ” in Death Valley. The hikes were diverse and gave us a very good sense of each park. Accommodations were very good as well

The deserts were so different! These two guides, Deb & Chris, worked so well together.

The guides and their ability to make adjustments as needed throughout unexpected weather conditions. The layout for each day and the other participants.

  • Death Valley and Joshua Tree are both home to more wildlife than the stark scenery might suggest. In Death Valley, keep an eye out for roadrunners, desert bighorn sheep, jackrabbits, kit foxes, and the rare pupfish species that live in a handful of desert springs and oases—including the ones at Ash Meadows on day 2. Joshua Tree is home to desert tortoises, coyotes, bobcats, and owls, among other high-desert residents. Sightings aren’t guaranteed, since these are wild animals in a vast landscape, but your guides know where to look.
