If you are having any doubts on whether it is worth it to hire a guide for a mountain bike trip in Switzerland, ignore them. It is well worth it! Our trip with Manuel greatly exceeded my expectations. It is his knowledge, instructional abilities and relaxed personality that created a magnificent bike adventure that allowed us to simply enjoy the diverse topography and cultures of Switzerland, South Tyrol, Austria and Italy in six days without any of the anxiety or mishaps that can come from doing it on your own. He provided just the right amount of historical context along the way and with his knowledge of trail difficulty level, quality hotels, restaurants, spas, museums and perfectly placed Cafes along the way, alternate travel methods (always had an A, B & C plan to account for weather, public transit issues, bike problems, skill or energy levels or emergency espresso needs) we all could just pedal and enjoy the view! I was the only one in our group that had not spent significant time on an e bike (went on 1 ride in the US). Day one, Manual spent a little extra time familiarizing me with the differences and giving helpful suggestions. By the end of that day, I felt very confident and had no problems the rest of the trip. I however, appreciated the mini instruction along the way as it helped us all to become better riders, no matter our level. (If you are wondering about fitness level, you want to be in bike shape (good saddle time) but I found the electric feature allowed me to adjust for my energy levels) Those that know me know that I do not hand out praise excessively and that I am one of the most frugal people they know but I can say without hesitation that this mountain biking guide is the only way to go!

    Intermediate riders
This group is for riders with solid fitness and e-bike experience who prefer a more moderate pace. You can comfortably handle up to 1,400 m (4,600 ft) of climbing on forest roads with a 600 Wh battery. Easy singletrails, wide hiking paths, and even steep forest roads are no problem. You know when to get off the bike and can realistically assess your ability.

    Advanced & expert riders
This tour is designed for bikers with solid skills up to expert level. You are confident riding technical singletrails in the Alps and know when it’s better to get off and push. Trails are mainly official hiking routes where biking is permitted—these can be narrow, exposed, rooty, or covered with loose rocks. While total elevation gains are moderate, alpine ascents still require good fitness and technique. Most sections correspond to S2 difficulty on the Singletrail Scale—in the USA typically considered “expert.”
