Cancellation policy

The percentages in the table above are of the full trip price, not of what you’ve paid at the time of booking.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking receive a full refund on all plans, including booking fees and insurance. After the 48-hour window, your refund depends on your selected protection plan and when you cancel. Core and Premium plans extend your cancellation rights beyond the Standard policy:

  • With Core, a covered reason gets you 75% of your trip cost back — even the day before you go.
  • With Premium, a covered reason gets you 100% of your trip cost back — and any other reason gets you 75%, right up to the day you leave.
What counts as a covered reason
  • Sudden illness or injury — yours, a travel companion’s, or an immediate family member’s, confirmed by a doctor
  • Death of a traveler or an immediate family member
  • A natural disaster affecting your destination or your departure point
  • A government travel advisory against travel to your destination

Changing your mind isn’t a covered reason. Premium is the only plan that covers that. Documentation is required for all insurance claims.

Everything the travel insurance covers

Both plans include travel insurance through Redpoint Travel Protection. Core insures 75% of your trip cost; Premium insures 100%.

Maximum per person:

  • Trip cancellation — up to 100% of your trip cost
  • Cancel for any reason — up to 75% of your trip cost (Premium only)
  • Trip interruption — 150% of the trip cost limit
  • Trip delay — $200 a day, $1,000 max
  • Itinerary change — $250
  • Single occupancy supplement — up to 100% of trip cost
  • Missed connection — $1,000
  • Travel inconvenience — $250 each, $750 max
  • Pet return — $1,000 per pet
  • Baggage and personal effects — $2,500, max $300 an item
  • Baggage delay — $600, after 12 hours
  • Baggage delivery — $100 per trip
  • Emergency medical expenses — $100,000
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation — up to $1,000,000

These are maximums. What a claim actually pays depends on what you can document and on the policy’s exclusions — pre-existing conditions and undeclared activities among them. We’ll send the full policy wording with your confirmation.

  • This guided six-day e-MTB adventure links Switzerland and Italy on natural alpine singletrack, starting and finishing in Scuol in the Lower Engadin. We ride along the edge of the Swiss National Park, through the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Engiadina Val Müstair, and into the Bernina range, visiting the UNESCO-listed Convent of St. John along the way. PostBuses, gondolas, shuttles, and trains help us reach the best trails, and a flexible day in Livigno lets you ride or rest. Each night, we stay in handpicked 3 and 4-star alpine hotels, with luggage transfers and daily laundry so you can focus on the ride.

    • Arrive in Scuol, where we all meet at the hotel at 9:30 am to set up our e-MTBs and check gear before rolling out. The first climbs follow gravel and paved roads, then give way to natural alpine singletrack through historic Engadin villages. It’s a great chance to ride side by side, get to know each other, and dial in our skills on mostly Blue Square trails, with a few short Black Diamond sections if you want to push a little. We stop for lunch at a classic mountain hut or village restaurant and wrap up around 4 pm.

Riding: 40 km (25 mi), 6 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain: +1,500 m (4,921 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Moderate to challenging, gravel roads and natural singletrack, mostly Blue Square with some Black Diamond sections
      Highest point: 1,950 m (6,398 ft)
      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

Arrival in Switzerland — Mountain Biking in Switzerland - Italy
    • A morning shuttle takes us from Scuol up to S-charl, a quiet alpine village with roots going back to the 1300s. After a quick coffee, we ride beneath ancient Swiss stone pines along the edge of the Swiss National Park, winding deeper into the mountains. From Alp Astras, the trail turns technical, with exposed passages and challenging moves that call for focus and good bike skills. With glacier views of the Ortler massif ahead, we cross briefly into Italy before looping back to Müstair, where we visit the UNESCO-listed Convent of St. John.

Riding: 40 km (25 mi), 6 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain/loss: +1,257 m (4,124 ft), -1,814 m (5,951 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Moderate to challenging, predominantly singletrack with exposed sections and demanding descents, Blue Square to Black Diamond
      Highest point: 2,503 m (8,212 ft)
      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

First Alpine trails and language crossings — Mountain Biking in Switzerland - Italy
    • We start the day in true Graubünden fashion, hopping on the yellow PostBus up to Ofen Pass at 2,149 m (7,051 ft). From here, we drop into classic singletrack through open valleys, golden larch forests, and big mountain views as we cross the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Engiadina Val Müstair. Mostly easy singletrack mixed with gravel leads us to a remote mountain pass and over the border into Italy. Soon, Lake Livigno opens up below, and we roll into Livigno, a lively town known for its bike culture, ready to unwind after a day of linking two countries by trail.

Riding: 44 km (27 mi), 6 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain/loss: +1,311 m (4,301 ft), -1,638 m (5,374 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Moderate, mostly easy singletrack with some gravel-road sections, mostly Blue Square with a few short, more demanding sections
      Highest point: 2,350 m (7,710 ft)
      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

UNESCO landscapes and Alpine climbs — Mountain Biking in Switzerland - Italy
    • Today is all about your pace. You can join your guide for a fun, tailored e-MTB ride around Livigno using the included mountain lifts, with trails adjusted to the group’s energy and skill level. Or, if you’d rather take a break from the saddle, kick back at the hotel, enjoy the spa, or wander through town. Everyone decides together with the guide the night before. If you ride, expect mostly easy singletrack with a few spicier bits from 9 am to around 4 pm, with a lunch stop at a mountain hut or restaurant along the way.

Riding (optional): 40 km (25 mi), 6 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain/loss: +1,000 m (3,281 ft), -2,000 m (6,562 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Moderate, mostly easy singletrack with minimal exposure and a few technically demanding passages
      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

Guided E-MTB Ride or Rest Day in Livigno — Mountain Biking in Switzerland - Italy
    • We wake up in Livigno ready for the big one, a true alpine epic linking Italy and Switzerland. After breakfast, the gondola whisks us up to Mottolino at 2,300 m (7,546 ft), where the high-alpine riding above the tree line begins. Flowing singletrack leads us into jaw-dropping views of the Bernina range and Piz Bernina, the highest peak in the Eastern Alps, alongside the UNESCO-listed Albula/Bernina railway landscape. This is likely the most demanding ride of the trip, but every climb earns a new panorama and every descent feels like a reward. We finish by rolling down toward St. Moritz, tired but totally stoked.

Riding: 44 km (27 mi), 6 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain/loss: +1,600 m (5,249 ft), -1,638 m (5,374 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Challenging, mostly singletrack with some exposed high-alpine sections, Blue Square and Black Diamond
      Highest point: 2,450 m (8,038 ft)
      Accommodation: 3 or 4-star hotel

Between the Bernina Line and Piz Bernina — Mountain Biking in Switzerland - Italy
    • We wrap up the adventure with a true alpine finale around St. Moritz. A mountain lift takes us up to 2,280 m (7,480 ft), and then a steady e-MTB climb brings us to the day’s high point at 2,749 m (9,019 ft), with sweeping views over the Engadin. After a break at a rustic alpine hut, we drop into a long descent through the classic Swiss villages of La Punt, Madulain, and Zuoz. From Zuoz, the train takes us back to Scuol, where it’s time to say our goodbyes and head home with plenty of big rides and new friendships to remember.

Riding: 30 km (19 mi), 4 hours including breaks
      Elevation gain/loss: +1,000 m (3,281 ft), -1,700 m (5,577 ft)
Technical difficulty & trail type: Moderate to challenging, high-alpine singletrack, gravel roads, and short paved sections, mostly Blue Square with some Black Diamond sections
      Highest point: 2,749 m (9,019 ft)

    • To join this e-MTB tour in Switzerland and Italy, you need good fitness and strong intermediate e-mountain biking experience on natural singletrack. The most you’ll ride in a day is 44 km (27 mi), with as much as 1,600 m (5,249 ft) of elevation gain.

Most days follow S2-rated terrain on the European Singletrail Scale (Blue Square to Black Diamond), so expect rocks, roots, rough surfaces, and the occasional exposed section that calls for real focus and confidence. Walking a tricky bit here and there is totally normal, but this tour isn’t set up for lots of hike-a-bike. The e-bike makes long climbs and full days doable, but you’ll still need the stamina and skills for several big days in a row.

    • This adventure is for strong intermediate to advanced e-MTB riders who want to experience the Alps at an unhurried pace. The focus isn’t on racing or athletic performance but on enjoying the landscapes, historic Engadin villages, local culture, and stops at mountain huts and restaurants along the way.

That said, a relaxed pace doesn’t mean easy terrain. This isn’t a beginner or lower-intermediate tour. You should be confident on narrow, rocky, loose, steep, and occasionally exposed alpine singletrack, stay calm in exposed terrain, and be comfortable pushing a heavy e-bike through short, steep, or unrideable sections. If you love technically demanding trails but also value great scenery, regional food, comfortable hotels, and a sociable group, you’ll feel right at home.

    • If a stage proves too difficult to complete safely, or you’d simply rather not ride it, you can skip it and rejoin the group at the next hotel.

        • If your guide determines you’re unable to safely complete a stage, you may be required to skip it — the guide’s decision is final.
        • You’re also welcome to skip one by choice, whether because of weather, fatigue, or just needing a break.
        • Either way, you can take a taxi with your e-bike to the next hotel at your own expense — your guide is happy to help arrange it.
        • Traveling with the luggage transfer vehicle isn’t possible due to insurance and safety restrictions.

If you’re unsure about a challenging section, speak with your guide as early as possible so they can help with logistics and safe alternatives.

    • Gear:

        • Certified mountain bike helmet — required
        • Biking shoes — compatible with your pedals
        • Daypack (minimum 20 L) with rain cover
        • Knee pads
        • Elbow pads (optional, but recommended for added protection)
        • Biking gloves
        • Sunglasses
        • Hydration system (2 L recommended—water bottle or CamelBak)

      Clothing:

        • Bike shorts — at least 2 pairs
        • Short- and long-sleeve bike jerseys
        • Thermal underwear (long sleeve, for chilly mornings)
        • Socks — bring several pairs
        • Rain jacket and rain pants — mandatory weather protection
        • Waterproof gloves (especially for cold or wet rides)
        • Neoprene socks or overshoes — for warmth in wet weather
        • Warm jacket for evenings (down or synthetic works well)
        • Hat and gloves (for cooler nights or high passes)
        • Neck warmer/buff
        • Swimwear (some hotels have pools or wellness areas)

      Other essentials:

        • Sunscreen (high SPF)
        • Toiletries
        • Personal medication
        • Some cash in both CHF (Swiss francs) and EUR (Euros)
        • Camera (optional, but highly recommended)

      For each ride:

        • Trail snacks (some provided, but bring any personal favorites)
        • Water—bring enough for the day and refill during stops
        • Energy bars and nuts
        • Wind and rain jacket (always pack these, even in good weather)

Dress for active riding and shifting mountain weather. Layers work best—avoid jeans, and go for athletic clothing that moves with you and dries quickly. Temperatures in the Alps can vary widely, so prepare for warm sun, chilly wind, and sudden rain, even in summer.

All hotels on this tour offer a daily laundry service—it’s included in the price. With fresh kit waiting for you every morning, there’s no need to pack a ton of gear or worry about handwashing in the sink at the end of a long day.

Got everything you need? Grab your gear through Active Junky and earn cash back on top outdoor brands — plus a $10 bonus on your first $25+ purchase. Shop now at Active Junky!

    • To keep your trip hassle-free, you can add a rental bike to your booking at checkout. Rentals are typically high-end e-mountain bikes like the Specialized Turbo Levo 4 or the Trek Rail, with strong battery range and reliable performance for long days in the Alps. Each bike is well maintained, fully equipped, and ready for rugged mountain trails.

Your guide is trained in first aid and handles minor bike repairs during the tour. Larger repairs are done in the evenings, and if a bike can’t be fixed quickly, a replacement will be arranged so you can keep riding.

If damage is caused by a crash or improper handling, the repair costs are charged to the renter. If there’s a technical fault that isn’t your fault, all repair and replacement costs are covered by the guides.

If you have specific preferences, sizing questions, or want a particular model, just leave us a note at checkout.

Your guides recommend flat pedals for this trip. They make it easier to put a foot down quickly on technical or exposed terrain and to walk the bike through steep or rocky sections. Since the motor handles the tough climbs, clipless pedals don’t offer much of an advantage here. If you really prefer clipless, you’re welcome to bring your own, but most riders find flats the better choice for this tour.

    • Luggage allowance:

        • Luggage transfers are included for one bag per person weighing up to 15 kg (33 lb).
        • If you would like to bring a second bag, your guides recommend arranging this in advance—a second bag can be transported for an additional fee (details and pricing are provided at checkout or on request).

Any extra luggage you don’t need during the tour can be stored securely at the hotel in Scuol and picked up when you return at the end of the trip. If you have special storage needs or large items, let your guides know in advance.

    • This e-MTB tour runs from early July to early October.

      What to expect by month:

        • July and August — lush green valleys, wildflowers, and long, warm days, though strong afternoon thunderstorms are common after hot days
        • September and early October — quieter trails, golden larch forests, and more stable weather, but cooler temperatures up high

Alpine weather is always changeable, so come prepared for sun, wind, rain, and cold at altitude whenever you go. Late in the season, storms can bring cold rain or even snow above 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Pack warm, waterproof riding gear, full-finger gloves, and a buff, and you’ll be ready for whatever the mountains bring.
