Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu in the morning or afternoon, you will be greeted by your guiding company representative and transferred to your accommodation. In the evening, we’ll embark on a city tour starting with Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the late afternoon, we’ll visit the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) for panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Pokhara City, and Phewa Lake. We’ll conclude the day with a tranquil boating experience on Phewa Lake.

After an early breakfast at the hotel, we’ll go on a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, which takes approximately 1 hour. This is where you’ll meet your trekking crew at Nayapul and begin your trekking adventure. The trail follows the riverbank initially, showcasing beautiful Himalayan waterfalls along the way. Take a short break to refresh at a mountain restaurant and enjoy lunch. We’ll then continue uphill for 1.5 to 2 hours, reaching Tirkhedhunga by around 3pm. The lodge at Tikhedhunga welcomes us with picturesque waterfalls and lush green surroundings.

Begin the day early with breakfast at Tikhedhunga. The trek starts uphill with many stone steps, gradually warming up your body. After approximately 45 minutes, we’ll enjoy close-up views of Annapurna South and other Himalayan peaks. We’ll trek further uphill through dense forests reminiscent of fairy tales, reaching Banthanti for lunch around noon. After a leisurely lunch, we’ll continue through rhododendron forests for about 2 hours to Ghorepani, arriving by late afternoon.

Wake up early at 4:30am for a sunrise excursion to Poon Hill, famous for its panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Nilgiri peaks. After soaking in the sunrise spectacle, we’ll return to Ghorepani for breakfast. Then we’ll proceed with a trek uphill for approximately 80 minutes to Gurung Hill, offering fantastic mountain views. We’ll descend slightly for 90 minutes through dense rhododendron forests to Banthanti, where lunch will be served around noon. After lunch, we’ll trek for about 90 minutes with varying elevations to Tadapani, arriving by 3pm. Enjoy magnificent views of Annapurna South and Himchuli from Tadapani.

After breakfast at Tadapani, we’ll begin trekking through dense forests, descending for about 3 hours to reach Ghandruk by early afternoon. Feel free to explore the village, interact with locals, and learn about the unique lifestyle shaped by the Gurkha battalions. We’ll enjoy breathtaking mountain views and relax in the serene surroundings.

Wake up early to catch a beautiful sunrise view from Pothana before breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll trek downhill to Syauli Bazar, approximately 2.5 hours away. Enjoy lunch at Syauli Bazar and bid farewell to your trekking crew. From here, we’ll drive back to Pokhara, a journey of about 30 minutes. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing and reflecting on your trekking experience.

No prior trekking experience is necessary, but being physically prepared will enhance your enjoyment of the trek.
The trek involves several hours of walking each day on varied terrain, including steep uphill and downhill sections. You should be comfortable walking 5-7 hours a day with breaks. Elevations range from approximately 800 meters (2,625 feet) to 3,210 meters (10,531 feet). While most trekkers do not experience severe altitude sickness, some may experience mild symptoms. It’s important to ascend gradually and stay hydrated.
Engaging in cardiovascular exercises like running, cycling, or swimming before your trip will help improve your stamina and endurance, making the trek more enjoyable. Incorporating strength training exercises like squats, lunges, and weightlifting will help build muscle strength, which is beneficial for the uphill and downhill sections of the trek. That said, keep in mind that you will always have a guide by your side to set the right pace, make regular breaks, offer encouragement, and make the entire experience enjoyable for everyone.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay in 4-star hotels that offer comfortable double-occupancy rooms and amenities. Single rooms in hotels are available for an added fee of $360 per person during the booking process. During the trek, you will stay in the best available lodges along the route. These lodges provide a cozy and authentic mountain experience with dormitory-style rooms, ensuring you rest well after a day of trekking.
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, breakfast is included with your hotel stay, featuring a variety of continental options. Other than breakfasts, a farewell dinner in Kathmandu is included as well. On the trek, you can expect a full board, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine such as Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), along with other common dishes like porridge, Tibetan bread, pancakes, eggs, and tea or coffee for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, you might have momos (dumplings), Thukpa (noodle soup), fried rice, noodles, vegetable curries, and chapati.

Every 1,000 m/3,200 ft you travel above sea level makes aerobic exercise 10% harder. On the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, you will hike at elevations ranging from approximately 800 meters (2,625 feet) to a maximum of 3,210 meters (10,531 feet).
As you can see, the elevations are relatively moderate, and most trekkers typically do not experience altitude sickness on this trek. However, some trekkers might still experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, especially if they ascend too quickly without proper acclimatization. Here are a few tips on do’s and don’ts for adapting to high altitude and avoiding altitude sickness:
Do not eat heavy food the day before traveling to Kathmandu. Make sure you drink between 6-8 glasses of water the days before your trip and during your hike along the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek and make sure to avoid drinking alcohol or smoking. Once you arrive at your accommodation, lie down a few minutes before going out to explore the area. Once you are ready to go out and explore the area, try not to become agitated climbing stairs or walking fast.
You should also try to include cardio and strength training in your schedule. Cardio means getting your heart rate up by doing things like running, cycling, skipping and burpees. Strength training means using resistance, weights or your body weight to grow your muscles. The fitter you are, the less oxygen your muscles need to move — something invaluable at higher elevations.

Your Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek adventure starts in Kathmandu, Nepal. To get there, most people fly into Tribhuvan International Airport.
Most people arrive in the morning or the afternoon on Day 1. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a representative and transferred to your accommodation for a welcome drink and dinner.
