Everest View Trek: 5 Days Among Himalayan Peaks

Seeing Mount Everest up close doesn’t require an expedition—just 5 days will do! Starting with a flight into the heart of the Himalayas, we’ll experience everything that makes Everest treks legendary: ancient trading paths from Lukla through the Khumbu region, dramatic suspension bridges over rushing rivers, and nights in lodges and teahouses where countless mountaineers have rested. But instead of weeks of grueling ascents, this well-planned route leads efficiently to the perfect spot: Hotel Everest View (3,962 m/13,000 ft), where four legendary peaks—Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam—will greet us in full panorama. Itinerary

Ready to see the Himalayas' greatest hits in just five days? This trek to Hotel Everest View explores the heart of the Khumbu region, starting with a thrilling mountain flight to Lukla. From there, we'll follow ancient trading routes through rhododendron forests and historic Sherpa villages, cross dramatic suspension bridges along the way, and spend our nights in comfortable lodges and teahouses. An IFMGA-certified guide leads the way while making sure we're properly acclimatizing, with permits, accommodations, and domestic flights all arranged—including that scenic return flight to Kathmandu. Just bring your sense of adventure and a camera for those panoramic mountain views!

  • Our adventure begins with a short 35-minute flight to Lukla early in the morning from Kathmandu. During the flight, we’ll see breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas. The porters will join our group at Lukla, and we will descend to Phakding village, where we will spend the night. Today’s trail follows the Dudh Koshi River—we’ll cross it several times via suspension bridges. On the way, we’ll trek through small villages and rhododendron forests.

Note: For departures between December and February, and June and August, flights are from Kathmandu Airport. For departures between March and May, and September and November, flights to Lukla depart from Ramechhap Airport, a 5-hour drive from Kathmandu.

  • This 5-day Everest View trek is suitable for beginner trekkers, but keep in mind that good fitness is still a must! You’ll be walking for 5 to 6 hours each day on average, so it’s important to be in good health and ready to spend long hours on the trail. The highest point you’ll reach is 3,962 meters (13,000 feet) above sea level, which is high but still manageable.

In general, the trek involves a gradual hike through lush forested hills, with some steep, rocky, and demanding sections where you have to be able to maintain your pace. Prior trekking experience isn’t necessary, but we recommend doing some light exercises and short hikes before your trip to help your body adjust to the physical demands of the trek.

  • Every 1,000 meters (3,200 feet) above sea level makes aerobic exercise 10% harder. On this 5-day Everest View trek, you’ll hike at altitudes from 2,846 meters (9,337 feet) at Lukla to 3,962 meters (13,000 feet) at the Hotel Everest View. While these elevations are high, they’re manageable, and the gradual ascent reduces the risk of altitude sickness, giving your body time to acclimatize.

Here are some tips to help you adapt to the altitude and avoid altitude sickness:

      • Do not eat heavy food the day before traveling to Kathmandu.
      • Make sure you drink 6-8 glasses of water the days before and during the trek, and avoid drinking alcohol or smoking.
      • Once you arrive at your accommodation, lie down for a few minutes before heading out to explore.
      • When you are ready to go out, avoid rushing or climbing stairs too quickly.

You should also try to include cardio and strength training in your schedule. Cardio involves getting your heart rate up by doing things like running, cycling, skipping, and burpees. Strength training involves using resistance, weights, or your body weight to grow your muscles. The fitter you are, the less oxygen your muscles need, which is invaluable at higher elevations.

  • Apart from the fact that you’ll have a highly experienced and knowledgeable person by your side—who’ll also make sure you have the best time in the country—trekking in Nepal is no longer allowed without a guide. This decision has been made for the tourists’ benefit, as many tourists have gone missing over the past few years when they went trekking by themselves.

  • On this 5-day Everest View trek, you’ll stay in standard lodges in twin-share rooms with a common washroom. Western-style toilets are available in all villages. The rooms are small, but clean and cozy. The bedding provided will be clean but not spotless, so it’s a good idea to bring your own bedsheet and pillow cover. Be sure to pack any necessary toiletries, such as paper soap, wet wipes, and toilet paper. A sleeping bag is not necessary for this trek.

Charging, WiFi, and hot showers are available in all lodges, but they come at an extra cost. Expect to pay around $1-2 for charging and WiFi, and up to $5 for a hot shower.

If you’d like a more comfortable stay, you can upgrade to a luxury lodge, which includes a private washroom and additional amenities.

  • Yes, to visit Nepal, you must have a Nepalese visa. For the Everest View trek, you will need a 30 day multiple-entry visa, which is valid for 6 months and costs 50 USD. You can easily obtain it as soon as you arrive in the country, which is usually at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
