Cycle and Sail Along the Croatian Coast

Croatia is where the mountainous Balkans meet the airy elegance of the Mediterranean. At the heart of this juncture is the coastal region of Dalmatia, whose storied history and unspoiled nature infuse life with a balmy breeziness you can’t help but love.

Over 1,000 islands spill out from the Adriatic to form the Croatian archipelago—each one its own blend of language and culture, food and flora. For eight days, you’ll sail from one picturesque locale to the next in search of pine-scented scenery in which to cycle, sightsee, and soak up the summer vibes.

Small country, big opportunities

Although Croatia only spans around 22,000 square miles, it boasts one of the most indented coastlines in Europe. Each island you’ll visit possesses its own unique character, culture, and ecosystem.

Embark on a sun-soaked holiday adventure and find the perfect mix of sport and relaxation in Croatia’s paradise on Earth. Sail the calm Adriatic waters, ride through stone-house towns as old as seafaring, and savor the pleasures of life—every knot, pedal, swim, and step of the way.

A thousand islands and millennia of history

TROGIR

This tiny central Dalmatian town will dazzle you with its old-time charm. Thanks to its rich colonial past, the historic center of Trogir is part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

In your spare time, pay a visit to the beautiful Romanesque churches, including the St. Lawrence Cathedral, take a walk along the bustling riviera, or enjoy the view from the fortified walls of the Kamerlengo Fortress.

BRAČ

Over 24 miles long and just 7.5 miles wide, Brač is famous for the quaint town of Bol and its unique tongue-shaped Zlatni Rat Beach.

Vidova Gora, the highest peak on the island, offers an unforgettable view of the golden shore and towns below. The island is also home to the medieval Blaca Hermitage. Located on the south side of the island, this impressive monument was founded by two Glagolitic monks in the 16th century.

HVAR

Thanks to its strategic position and impressive biodiversity, Hvar—the sunniest island in the Adriatic—has enjoyed great importance since the time of Ancient Greece.  Its secluded coves, lavender fields, and stone architecture are a sight to behold.

At the foot of the highest peak on the island, you’ll find Sveta Nedjelja—a town celebrated for its long wine tradition. Afterwards, ride through Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in Europe, then hit the town of Hvar for beach cocktails and a taste of Mediterranean nightlife.

VIS

Due to 20th century naval operations, Vis was closed to the public for 50 years. Today the island invites visitors to marvel at its untouched beauty and the fascinating remnants of its military past—underground tunnels, bunkers, barracks, and submarine hideouts. If you’re up for a real adventure, this is the place to explore.

Pedal your way around the eponymous town of Vis, founded long ago by Greek travelers, and learn about the open sea expeditions of the fishermen inhabiting the town of Komiža. From there, you’ll get a clear view of a tiny local archipelago, which is home to the famous volcanic islet of Jabuka.

OMIŠ

Surrounded by mountains in the heart of Dalmatia, where the Cetina River meets the Adriatic Sea, Omiš is Coastal Croatia’s paradise for outdoor sports. Hiking, biking, kayaking, rock climbing, and paragliding are just some of the activities you can look forward to here.

Historically, Omiš was an infamous pirate stronghold from which Dalmatian corsairs terrorized Venetian merchants and crusaders. So fearsome were these raiders that the Pope led two wars against them. Their fortresses are still standing to this day.

He enjoys sharing his love for these slivers, slips, cliffside monoliths, and white-pebble blips with anyone who’s interested. When he’s not shredding singletrack, he spends most of his time traveling with his mountain-biking wife and trying out artisanal beers in local taverns.
