In the Dolomites, the roads are the attraction. Smooth tarmac climbing through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the world, with passes that have featured in cycling’s greatest races and views that stop you mid-pedal stroke. Over five days, we ride a loop from Bolzano through Passo Sella, Passo Giau, Passo San Pellegrino, and more, with a support van tracking our progress and 4 and 5-star hotels waiting at the end of each day. We take a cable car up to 3,223 m (10,574 ft) for lunch on the Tofane, eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant above the Val Pusteria, and have dinner on the shores of Lake Alleghe. The only thing left to do is to show up and ride.

  • Spa, then repeat: Recover in 4- and 5-star hotels with spa facilities in Selva and Corvara

The adventure, day by day

This cycling holiday in the Dolomites links 5 iconic passes across a 5-day loop from Bolzano, combining epic climbs with long descents on quiet alpine roads. Each day, we choose between a standard route and a more demanding extended version. Between the riding: a spa hotel, lakeside dinners, a cable car to 3,223 m (10,574 ft), and a Michelin-starred restaurant above the treeline. Expert guides, bike rental, luggage handling, and a support van are included from start to finish.

Day 1: Bolzano to Selva
Hut lunch in Italy

From Bolzano, we’ll make our way up to the Alpe di Siusi, the largest high-altitude plateau in Europe, with the help of the ski lift. At the top, the Dolomite panorama opens up in every direction. We stop at a traditional Tyrolean mountain hut for lunch with 360-degree views before continuing to Selva, where the evening ends with a well-earned session at the hotel spa.

Cycling (Standard): 56 km (35 mi)
Cycling (Extended): 67 km (42 mi)
Elevation: +1,300 m (+4,265 ft) standard / +2,300 m (+7,546 ft) extended

Day 2: Selva to Alleghe
Bikers start in Italy

From Selva, we climb the famous Passo Sella before descending into the Val di Fassa. Lunch is at the renowned Il Puzzone di Moena dairy farm, where local cheese takes centre stage. We then tackle Passo San Pellegrino and arrive in Alleghe for dinner on the shores of the lake. Extended route riders also take on the ascent to Passo Carezza.

Day 3: Alleghe to Dobbiaco
Cyclist and great view in Italy

The day opens with the ascent of Passo Giau before we roll into Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the Dolomites’ most iconic towns. From here, a cable car carries us, without bikes, up to the Tofane at 3,223 m (10,574 ft) for lunch at altitude. We then face the final climb of the day to Passo Cimabanche and descend to Dobbiaco, where a Tyrolean evening with live music is waiting.

Cows in Dolomites in the morning

We follow the cycling path through the Val Pusteria to Brunico, stopping at the Lumen Photography Museum at Plan de Corones. Lunch is at AlpiNN, Chef Norbert Niederkofler’s Michelin-starred restaurant perched above the valley. The afternoon brings us to Corvara and the Cappella Hotel, where the spa offers a fitting reward for the day’s efforts.

Back in Bolzano, we return the bikes and close the week with a farewell dinner at a gourmet restaurant, marking the end of our cycling adventure.
