We did a cycle tour with Turaventur. 5 nights at the farmhouse and guided cycles daily. The accommodation at the farmhouse is cosy with our room having a lovely balcony to relax after the daily cycle. Our guides were great and we had interesting days despite the extremely hot unseasonal weather in October. We hired electric bikes and I was very glad of this as there were lots of undulating roads. We mostly used quieter country roads. Breakfasts daily at the farmhouse were great. We also met some travellers who were on one of the companies guided tours who sounded like they had had a wonderful time . Overall I would very much recommend Turaventur if you are looking for a great cycling or other adventure.
My husband, Scott & I travelled to Portugal for the first time this past September. From the beginning, Teresa and her staff provided excellent communication and advise as they helped to design a trip that would suffice our needs. She modified the usual self- guided route to enable us to work in our other trip plans. We have been biking with friends in different countries for a number of years. Each trip has offered something unique. Portugal offered an amazing look into the history and culture of Portugal through touring very small and medium sized towns and meeting families who owned businesses that have been in the families for generations. Teresa, our guide and the owner of Turaventur, has an extensive and detailed knowledge of the history and things that truly make visiting a country an experience vs a trip. She has the gift of story telling. She christened us “the Lusitanians.” They were a people of Portugal that were neither governable by others or by themselves! Hand made leather, hand made pottery, wineries that use pottery instead of oak barrel to age wine, marble quarries, cheese making, harvesting olives, vineyard tours, castles, Dolmans, menirs, the history behind the creation of Portugal’s most famous pastery (which we enjoyed eating immensely), insight into the Monarchy, the largest manmade lake in Europe and why there is a castle underwater, and even more! The bike riding was varied and I would definitely recommend an e-bike to make some of the climbs less taxing. The biking included some beautiful scenery. We picnic lunched most days and the food was wonderful. Our accommodations included convents, castles and other historical venues. Variety and a chance to be touched by the people of another country…this is a trip we will always remember…made rich by Teresa and her crew!

The best thing about cycling in Alentejo, Portugal is that there are incredible options for all skill levels. Each day brings new possibilities and most of them are beginner to intermediate in terms of fitness. You will stay on the road and cycle 127 to 293 km (79 to 183 miles) over 3 to 7 days. All itineraries are flexible — you can combine the days in different order or even do a kayak or a walking tour instead of cycling on one of the days. Almost everything is adjustable to your preferences. Let us know which routes seem the best for you in advance and we will make all the necessary arrangements.

To get to Alentejo, most people fly into Lisbon Airport, about 2 hours away by car. Your guides can pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your accommodation in Évora.
You can also rent a car or take a bus from any larger airports in Portugal.
