Discover Iceland's Fimmvörðuháls trail and Thorsmork valley on a thrilling 3-day hike in Iceland. Experience glaciers, lava fields, and 26 waterfalls, staying in cozy mountain huts with delicious meals. Expert local guides lead each day, sharing Icelandic tales and ensuring safety. Transportation from Reykjavik, accommodation, meals, and all necessary safety equipment are included, making this an unforgettable journey through Iceland's untouched wilderness.
  • After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we embark on an exhilarating 3-day adventure in Iceland. You’ll be picked up from Reykjavik or South Iceland, followed by a drive to the starting point at Skogar, trailhead of the Fimmvorduhals trail. Our journey begins with the awe-inspiring Skogafoss, the first of 26 waterfalls along the “Waterfall Trail”. Throughout the day, we encounter glaciers, historical sites, lava fields, volcanic craters, and magnificent mountain ranges. Our trek concludes in Husadalur valley in Thorsmork, where cozy mountain cabins or luxurious glamping tents await. After the day’s challenges, we gather around the campfire, enjoy a BBQ dinner, and share stories with fellow adventurers under the Icelandic sky.

  • Awaken to the serenity of Thorsmork and enjoy a hearty breakfast amidst Iceland’s pristine beauty. Today, we delve deeper into this natural paradise, known as Iceland’s ultimate playground away from tourist crowds. Traverse through lush woodlands and ascend to panoramic viewpoints over ice plateaus, verdant valleys, flowing rivers, and majestic mountains. We summit Valahnukur for breathtaking vistas of the Thorsmork nature reserve, where every turn reveals new wonders of Iceland’s untouched wilderness. Returning to base camp, we have the afternoon to relax by the campfire or continue exploring the area on recommended “elfen trails,” accompanied by folklore tales that enrich our understanding of this enchanting land.

  • Today marks our final day of exploration in Thorsmork, beginning with a hearty breakfast to fuel our adventure. We lace up our hiking boots and head towards the Tindfjöll Mountains, where we navigate winding trails along steep slopes, eventually reaching the expansive Tindfjallasletta plateau. Here, panoramic vistas of Iceland’s diverse landscapes unfold before us, a fitting reward for our journey. Descending Stangarháls Ridge, we traverse rugged terrain down to the Krossá riverbed, soaking in the awe-inspiring scenery of Thorsmork’s contrasting landscapes. A peaceful walk through Langidalur and Husadalur woods offers a serene conclusion to our hike, allowing us to reflect on our unforgettable Icelandic journey. At 4pm, bid farewell to this Icelandic gem as we’re picked up from base camp for a scenic bus ride back to civilization.

  • To join this guided hiking adventure along the Fimmvorduhals trail and in Thorsmork, you should have prior hiking experience and a good level of fitness. Be prepared for an 8-hour hike on the first day, covering 15 miles (24 km), with 2,060-3,850 feet (628-1,173 meters) of ascent/descent on challenging and sometimes exposed terrain. The following days involve 3 to 4 hours of hiking, covering 6 miles (10 km) each day. While multi-day hike experience isn’t required, familiarity with full-day mountain hikes is essential. Your guide will assess the group’s fitness level, making necessary adjustments and ensuring ample breaks. Expect the first day to be the most strenuous, with the difficulty decreasing in the subsequent days. The reward? Spectacular views and unforgettable experiences in Thórsmörk.

  • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

      • Backpack with rain cover (25-50L preferably)
      • Rain- and windproof jacket (very important)
      • Rain- and windproof pants (very important)

  • During your Fimmvorduhals and Thorsmork hike, you will stay in mountain huts with dormitory-style bedding and linens included. For those seeking more privacy or comfort, there are options to upgrade to private rooms, glamping tents, and private tents, although prices may vary—leave a note for the guide during booking if you are interested. Meals will consist of typical hiking food that is easy to carry and prepare, such as dried foods, sandwiches, oatmeal, or something more elaborate like BBQ or Icelandic meat soup for dinner. Special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, can be accommodated if communicated when booking, though additional fees may apply if these requirements are not easily available.

  • Group sizes and pricing

      • For this group adventure, the maximum client-to-guide ratio is 15:1.
      • It takes a minimum of 5 people for this tour to operate, while the maximum number of people that can join is 18.

    Hiking along the Fimmvorduhals trail and in Thorsmork can be arranged for private groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

    Min. age requirements

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

  • To get to the starting point of this tour in Reykjavík, most people fly into Keflavík International Airport. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to Reykjavík.

    You will meet your guide at the BSI central bus terminal in Reykjavík some time in the morning of Day 1, followed by a transfer to the trailhead.

  • We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with both emergency medical and travel insurance.

    With medical insurance, if you have an accident or medical emergency on or off the trails, you’ll avoid paying out of pocket for costly expenses. This covers everything from hospital treatments to emergency air transportation and more. Travel insurance covers canceled flights, natural disasters and other scenarios that may interrupt your travel plans.

    We also expect you to respect local regulations and take measures to protect yourselves, your guides, and the communities you’re traveling to.

  • Deposits

    You can secure one of the set dates with a 30% deposit upon booking. The remaining 70% of the trip price is to be paid 90 days prior to departure, at the latest.

    Cancellations

    Booking fees are non-refundable in all cases. During checkout, however, you can choose one of 57hours’ flexibility options:

    Basic

      • In case of cancellation within 48 hours after booking, the amount paid is fully refundable.
      • For cancellations 60 or more days before the trip, you are eligible for a 70% refund of the trip price.
      • For cancellations 0-59 days before the trip, there is no refund.

    Flexible

      • In case of cancellation within 48 hours after booking, the amount paid is fully refundable.
      • For cancellations 60 or more days before the trip, you are eligible for a full refund of the trip price.
      • For cancellations 30-59 days before the trip, you are eligible for a 50% refund of the trip price.
      • For cancellations 0-29 days before the trip, there is no refund.

    Super Flexible

      • In case of cancellation within 48 hours after booking, the amount paid is fully refundable.
      • For cancellations 30 or more days before the trip, you are eligible for a full refund of the trip price.
