Our journey begins as we leave civilization behind and head toward the Bonatti Refuge, where we’ll spend the night. Starting at the Val Ferret cross-country ski track, we make a steady 439-meter ascent to reach the refuge at 2,026 meters. Before setting off, we’ll go through a detailed avalanche safety briefing—covering the transceiver, probe, and shovel—so you’ll feel confident and prepared for the backcountry adventure ahead.
The route follows a gentle path along a semi-frozen river, surrounded by majestic peaks like the Grandes Jorasses. The first stretch is easygoing, but as we reach the forest, the climb becomes more sustained. Above 2,000 meters, the trees clear and breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the Aosta Valley’s towering peaks open up. Once at the Bonatti Hut, it’s time to relax with a well-earned glass of mulled wine or cold beer before enjoying a hearty dinner made from fresh, local ingredients in the cozy mountain refuge.
