How fit do I need to be for this Mont Blanc hiking trip?

While hiking the hidden gems of Mont Blanc doesn’t require any special skills and isn’t technically challenging, a great level of fitness is still required. This isn’t a fully beginner-friendly tour, elevation changes are substantial and you’ll be hiking for 6 consecutive days. You’ll be hiking around 10 km (6 mi) per day on average, for 6 days in a row, while gaining between 235-1,060 m (770-3,500 ft) of elevation . Keep in mind that for group departures, your guide can always adjust the day hikes to be easier or harder depending on the group. Group sizes go up to 8 people, and honestly, some of the best parts of a trip like this happen around the dinner table with people you’ve just met on the trail! If you don’t have at least 4 people of your own to fill a private departure, this is also simply the more practical choice. Private departures are ideal if you have your own group and want the full experience tailored to you. Your own chalet, your own dates, a guide entirely focused on your group. Hikes can be adjusted to your fitness levels, the pace is yours, and the week is built around what you want to get out of it. For families, groups of friends, or anyone who’d rather not compromise, this is the one. It takes a minimum of 4 people for a private tour to be arranged, with the maximum set at 8—but bigger groups can be accommodated as well, reach out !

Is this Mont Blanc hking trip right for me?

This is a fitness trip first, a luxury trip second—don’t let the deluxe base fool you into thinking you’ll be lounging the whole day. You’re hiking six of the eight days , averaging 10 km (6 mi) with up to 1,060 m (3,500 ft) of elevation gain on the bigger days. This isn’t a technical trip—no ropes, no exposure, no via ferrata—so the challenge is stamina and legs, not skill. If you hike regularly and can handle consecutive big days without a rest day between them, you’ll be fine; if you’re newer to hiking or haven’t done back-to-back long days before, look at a shorter or easier trip instead—or, gather your people, and we can fully customize a private tour for you! Group departures suit solo travelers, couples, and small groups who want a shared experience and don’t mind a set pace with some flexibility; private departures suit families or groups of four or more who want the itinerary built around their own pace and dates.

What do I need to bring?

Group sizes and prices: You can choose between open group departures & private departures. For open group departures , the client-to-guide ratio is 7:1. With 8 or more people, there will be 2 guides. The minimum number of people needed for this tour to operate is 6, the maximum group size is set at 8 participants. For private departures, 8 hikers max can be accommodated at the chalet. It takes a minimum of 4 people for a private departure . There will be one guide with you. In case you’re a bigger group , reach out —we’ll arrange a bigger chalet or multiple nearby chalets. If you’re joining an open group departure, you’ll stay at Heliopic Hotel & Spa, a deluxe 4-star hotel with a spa. If opting for a private departure, you and your group will have a chalet all to yourself. Hiking in Mont Blanc can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements. Min. age requirements: If you are older than 18, you’re good to go. Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian. Is a single occupancy room available?

For open group departures, the price is based on twin-share rooms, but a single occupancy room can be arranged at an additional fee . You can add it to your booking at checkout. Solo travelers are welcome to join, but securing a single occupancy room for themselves is mandatory —you’ll be able to add it to your booking at checkout.

Getting there and meeting location

To get to Chamonix, most people fly into Geneva International Airport (GVA) . There will be two shuttles (included in the price) on the first and on the last day of the tour that will take you to Chamonix. On Day 1, shuttles will depart from Geneva Airport at exactly 11 am and 2 pm towards Chamonix, so please book your flight to arrive in time for one of them. You will be picked up in Arrivals Hall on the left side, next to the photo booth. On Day 8, shuttles taking you to Geneva Airport will depart at 7:30 am and noon. The carefully prepared, all-inclusive 8-day trip is quite different from all other TMBs, bringing together crowdless trails and luxury lifestyle. Based in a deluxe 4-star hotel and spa in Chamonix, we’ll be going out to French, Italian, and Swiss trails every single day with breakfasts & lunches, transport, accommodation, and a fantastic guide all taken care of.

Day 1: Arrival in Chamonix

Day 1 is reserved for arriving and settling in. Two shuttles run from Geneva Airport to Chamonix, departing at 11 am and 2 pm and included in the price. If you’re making your own way there, just be sure to reach Chamonix by 6 pm, when you’ll meet your guide and the rest of the group at Heliopic Hotel & Spa. Once everyone’s gathered, we’ll sit down to a welcome dinner at 6:30 pm at Le P’tiot Monchu, then get an early night before the adventure begins.

Day 2: Haut-Cordon panoramic circuit

We kick off the trip with a beautiful 10.8-kilometer (6.7-mile) loop hike near Cordon, in Haute-Savoie. It’s a chance to take in the whole Mont Blanc massif from afar as we move into the pre-Alps, and your guide will share some background on the valley, its history of settlement, and how it grew popular over time. We keep clear of the crowds on this moderately challenging route, with otherworldly views throughout, then head back to Chamonix for the night.

Day 3: Aiguille du Midi & Balcon Nord

We start the day on the Montenvers train up to the Mer de Glace, then follow the scenic Balcon Nord trail—one of the most spectacular routes in the French Alps, with nonstop views of Mont Blanc and the glacier below. After the hike, we stop for lunch at Refuge du Plan de l’Aiguille before continuing up to the top of the Aiguille du Midi. The ascent itself is one to remember, rising to 3,777 m (12,392 ft) on the world’s highest vertical cable car.

Day 4: Val Ferret — Courmayeur

Today’s trail takes us along the Bonatti Circuit and through Val Veny. Look forward to an Aperol Spritz with a view of the Grand Jorasses at the Bonatti hut, named after the legendary Italian mountaineer who helped establish it. We’ll have a leisurely afternoon in Courmayeur’s downtown—don’t miss the local focaccia and gelato—before a final sweeping panorama of Chamonix on the way back to our accommodation.

Day 5: Passy Nature Reserve

Today we discover the charm of Passy Nature Reserve, an unspoiled alpine landscape where the Mont Blanc massif stays in view the whole way. Our scenic hike follows the panoramic trail beneath Aiguille de Varan and wraps up in style, with an authentic lunch in a picturesque botanical garden overlooking some of the area’s best mountain views.

Day 6: Lac d'Émosson

This day is dedicated to stepping through history along the old Émosson geological trail, with dinosaur tracks dating back 240 million years and sweeping panoramic views. We drive to Lake Émosson and walk along it for about 1.5 km (1 mile), then continue toward Gorge de la Veudale for more spectacular views. We return via Vieux Émosson Lake along the same path, finishing the hike at the top of the Émosson Dam, where we learn about the glaciers, their melting, and the surrounding environmental context, before heading back to Chamonix.

Day 7: Les Contamines

We start from La Notre-Dame de la Gorge for a steep climb up into Les Contamines-Montjoie, the only nature reserve in the whole of the Mont Blanc massif. Along the way, we take in some quintessential alpine scenery, then visit the charming village of Les Contamines-Montjoie itself, known for its historic character, Baroque churches, and traditional architecture; more than 70% of its old farmhouses have been restored in the traditional Savoyard style. We return to Chamonix afterward.

After a long day in the mountains, there’s nothing better than coming back to a deluxe 4-star hotel with a spa. You’ll spend your nights at Heliopic Hotel & Spa, right at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi cable car and a short walk from the center of Chamonix. The comfortable, modern rooms are the perfect place to rest before the next day on the trail.

A soothing wellness area awaits, complete with an indoor swimming pool, hammams, a sauna, and a full-service spa, and there are two restaurants on site. It’s a little slice of paradise you won’t want to step away from.

Private groups will stay in a modern chalet near the center of Chamonix. The chalet is set in spacious grounds with superb views, flat easy access, and ample parking. Surrounded by jagged mountains and Mont Blanc, it offers an open-plan living area, single and double bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, a private pool or jacuzzi, a sauna, and catering options for breakfast and dinner (breakfasts will always be prepared for you, while dinners can be arranged at an additional cost).

This isn’t the TMB, you won’t be hiking the full circuit hut to hut for 10-plus days. Instead, you’re based in one deluxe spot in Chamonix for the entire trip, and each day you head out on a different hike into the Mont Blanc massif, crossing France, Italy, and Switzerland. No packing up, no hunting for tonight’s bed—just a fresh corner of the mountains every morning and something comfortable waiting when you get back.

Group departures are perfect if you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with a friend or two and you’re open to sharing the experience with others. Group sizes go up to 8 people, and honestly, some of the best parts of a trip like this happen around the dinner table with people you’ve just met on the trail! If you don’t have at least 4 people of your own to fill a private departure, this is also simply the more practical choice.

Private departures are ideal if you have your own group and want the full experience tailored to you. Your own chalet, your own dates, a guide entirely focused on your group. Hikes can be adjusted to your fitness levels, the pace is yours, and the week is built around what you want to get out of it. For families, groups of friends, or anyone who’d rather not compromise, this is the one. It takes a minimum of 4 people for a private tour to be arranged, with the maximum set at 8—but bigger groups can be accommodated as well, reach out!
This is a fitness trip first, a luxury trip second—don’t let the deluxe base fool you into thinking you’ll be lounging the whole day.

You’re hiking six of the eight days, averaging 10 km (6 mi) with up to 1,060 m (3,500 ft) of elevation gain on the bigger days. This isn’t a technical trip—no ropes, no exposure, no via ferrata—so the challenge is stamina and legs, not skill.

If you hike regularly and can handle consecutive big days without a rest day between them, you’ll be fine; if you’re newer to hiking or haven’t done back-to-back long days before, look at a shorter or easier trip instead—or, gather your people, and we can fully customize a private tour for you!

Group departures suit solo travelers, couples, and small groups who want a shared experience and don’t mind a set pace with some flexibility; private departures suit families or groups of four or more who want the itinerary built around their own pace and dates.
Here’s a list of personal items you need to bring:
- - Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 20-30L bag)
  - Backpack rain cover
  - Hiking poles — optional
  - Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
  - Sunhat
  - Toiletries (sunscreen, SPF lip balm, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper or wet wipes, etc.)
  - Sunglasses
  - Camera — optional (but recommended)
  - First aid kit

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

Group sizes and prices:
- - You can choose between open group departures & private departures.
  - For open group departures, the client-to-guide ratio is 7:1. With 8 or more people, there will be 2 guides. The minimum number of people needed for this tour to operate is 6, the maximum group size is set at 8 participants.
  - For private departures, 8 hikers max can be accommodated at the chalet. It takes a minimum of 4 people for a private departure. There will be one guide with you. In case you’re a bigger group, reach out—we’ll arrange a bigger chalet or multiple nearby chalets.
  - If you’re joining an open group departure, you’ll stay at Heliopic Hotel & Spa, a deluxe 4-star hotel with a spa. If opting for a private departure, you and your group will have a chalet all to yourself.
Hiking in Mont Blanc can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

Min. age requirements:
- - If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
  - Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.
If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.
For open group departures, the price is based on twin-share rooms, but a single occupancy room can be arranged at an additional fee. You can add it to your booking at checkout.

Solo travelers are welcome to join, but securing a single occupancy room for themselves is mandatory—you’ll be able to add it to your booking at checkout.
To get to Chamonix, most people fly into Geneva International Airport (GVA). There will be two shuttles (included in the price) on the first and on the last day of the tour that will take you to Chamonix.

On Day 1, shuttles will depart from Geneva Airport at exactly 11 am and 2 pm towards Chamonix, so please book your flight to arrive in time for one of them. You will be picked up in Arrivals Hall on the left side, next to the photo booth. On Day 8, shuttles taking you to Geneva Airport will depart at 7:30 am and noon.

Once you get to Chamonix, you will meet your guide and your team at Heliopic Hotel & Spa at 6 pm on Day 1, or at your chalet or apartments if you’re joining as a private group.
