Itinerary

Join us for this 7-day hiking adventure on Sardinia’s rugged East Coast, where each day will provide a glimpse into the island’s unique lifestyle! You don’t have to have multi-day hiking experience in order to join this tour, all that’s needed is good fitness and endurance. We’ll get to trek through captivating scenery, from typical cliffside juniper trees and local farms to sharp spires and rock formations emerging from the sea. With everything organized for you, including transfers, accommodation, food, and necessary camping equipment, this will be a carefree journey to remember!

  • We will pick you up from Olbia Airport and drive for around 2.5 hours to the starting point of the hike. For the first two nights of this adventure, we’ll be staying at a hiker’s refuge, a guest house and a campsite. The refuge is simple and clean, a place where many hikers start their multi-day treks. Nestled on the Golgo Plateau, one of the most beautiful mountainous areas in Sardinia, this is a perfect spot for stargazing and reconnecting with nature.

Depending on arrival timing, we can take a short walk around the refuge to see a Litic Rock Face. In the evening, we’ll have a group dinner and a chance to get to know each other before a briefing from our local guides for the week.

    Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Twin room at the refuge

Dinner together on the East Coast of Sardinia
  • Following breakfast at the refuge, we will hike Punta Salinas, a 15-kilometer (9 miles) circular route on ancient shepherd’s trails. This will be our first taste of the Gulf of Orosei, a stunning 30-kilometer (18.5 miles) coastal stretch on the eastern coast of Sardinia. This will lead us to Cala Goloritze, a beautiful secluded beach with white sand and bright blue water. The beach is famous for the Punta Caroddi, a sharp pinnacle that towers over the bay.

We’ll enjoy a swim and lunch at the beach, with a chance to watch climbers tackle the multi-pitch routes in this picturesque location. In the afternoon, we’ll complete the circuit back to our starting point. This is a challenging hike, so we will take our time, stopping along the way to enjoy the views and walking at a comfortable pace for the group. We’ll end the day with a group dinner at a local restaurant.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    Hiking: 14 km / 8.7 miles, 5-7 hours
    Elevation: +685 m (+2,248 ft) / -700 m (-2,297 ft)
Accommodation: Twin/triple room at the refuge

    Cala Goloritzè beach
  • After breakfast at the refuge, we’ll be given a smaller duffel bag to pack just what we need for the next two nights, as some of our luggage transfers are by boat and there isn’t space for all our luggage. This will allow us to hike with just a daypack. We will hike beach to beach today, along incredible coastal trails that make up part of the iconic Selvaggio Blu, one of Italy’s most challenging multi-day hikes. No need to worry, though—we’ve chosen a less technical part of the route!

In the morning, we’ll trek to Cala Mariolu, a small cove with white and pink sands surrounded by towering cliffs up to 500 m (1,640 ft) tall. This bay is accessible only by hiking through dense Mediterranean vegetation, so we’re hoping we’ll have this spot all to ourselves! We’ll have lunch on the beach and enjoy a swim before being picked up by boat to continue to Cala Sisine, our camp spot for the night. Cala Sisine is one of the more popular beaches on our adventure, but as the night falls, we’ll have the beach to ourselves. We’ll set up our tents and enjoy a group dinner at the campsite.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    Hiking: 8 km / 5 miles, 4-6 hours
    Elevation: +215 m (+705 ft) / -588 m (-1,930 ft)
Accommodation: Tent (campsite — access to toilet and showers)

    Cala Sisine beach, Sardinia, Italy
  • We’ll start our day with breakfast at the campsite. Another day of beach hopping awaits us as we hike from Cala Sisine to Cala Luna. The coastal path winds through a densely forested area filled with junipers, holm oaks, and yews before opening up to stunning views of unusual rock formations.

We will follow the river down to Cala Luna, a popular beach on the East Coast of Sardinia. This beautiful, long sandy stretch features caves and grottos cut into the limestone cliffs. Tourists arrive either by hiking or boat transfers, but by nighttime, it should be relatively quiet!

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    Hiking: 9.5 km / 6 miles, 5 hours
    Elevation: +634 m (+2,080 ft) / -634 m (-2,080 ft)
Accommodation: Wild camping spot (no showers, access to toilet 10 minutes away)

    Cala Luna rock formation
  • Today, we will have a hearty breakfast and a restful morning before starting our hike on an ancient shepherd’s trail. This adventure is led by locals with insider knowledge and connections across Sardinia, allowing us to discover some of the island’s best unknown trails. The ancient paths along the coastline and in the Supramonte mountain region won’t be found in guidebooks and are known only to shepherds!

Tonight, we will stay at a local shepherd’s farm. We will enjoy a delicious dinner with the shepherd and his family, made from simple and fresh ingredients from the local area.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    Hiking: 6.5 km / 4 miles, 3.5 hours
    Elevation: +511 m (+1,676 ft) / -135 m (-443 ft)
Accommodation: Camping on shepherd’s farm (access to toilet and cold shower)

    Goats in Sardinia
  • Let’s get our energy for the start of the day with a tasty breakfast at the farm. We will then hike from the shepherd’s farm to Cala Fuili. The trail will take us through forests and dense vegetation before reaching the beautiful beach of Cala Fuili, which boasts incredibly clear water perfect for snorkeling.

We’ll enjoy some rest time at the beach before continuing our hike to Cala Gonone, a small coastal town and our final stop on this adventure. After a short stop for gelato, we will transfer (a 20-minute drive) inland to the Supramonte mountain region, to a beautiful agriturismo overlooking the lake. We will enjoy dinner there to celebrate an impressive five days of hiking!

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    Hiking: 9.5 km / 6 miles
    Elevation: +200 m (+656 ft) / -323 m (-1,060 ft)
Accommodation: Twin/triple room at an agriturismo/guesthouse

Happy hikers on Sardinia’s East Coast
  • After breakfast, we’ll embark on our final adventure: kayaking* down the Cedrino River to Su Gologone. After a magical journey through breathtaking scenery, we’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant by the river’s source. There’ll be some free time to relax in hammocks overlooking the mountains before a transfer back to Olbia Airport, which takes about an hour. And that marks the end of our tour! If you’d like to keep on exploring Sardinia, just ask us for some recommendations.

*If the water level is too low for the boat in September/October, we’ll go for a gentle hike in the area to visit some caves.
