The Aosta Valley is Italian mountain biking at its wildest—ancient trails, high mountain passes, and long, ridge-to-valley descents through some of the most striking landscapes in the Alps. Over five days, we link remote singletrack with stone-built villages, riding lines shaped by centuries of shepherds and traders rather than trail crews. Expect big valley views, demanding climbs, and descents that don’t quit, balanced out each evening with great food and easy company. We handle the local knowledge and logistics so you can focus on one thing: the ride.

Adventure Highlights

  • Some of the biggest descents in the Alps: Up to 3,500 m (11,483 ft) of descending in a single day, with chairlifts and shuttles doing the climbing so we can focus on the ride down

  • Real alpine terrain, not a bike park: We ride natural trails carved by shepherds and hunters, not machine-built berms—ridgelines, rock, and forest flow the way the mountains made them

The adventure, day by day

The Aosta Grand Tour is a 7-day mountain biking trip through the Italian Alps, based out of the same hotel in Aosta for most of the week, with one night at a mountain hut at altitude. We ride real alpine terrain—exposed ridgelines, technical rock, forest flow, and riverside singletrack—linked by chairlifts and shuttles that do the climbing for us, so we can focus on descents that run up to 3,500 m (11,483 ft) in a single day. Breakfast and dinner are included throughout, along with a professional MTB guide and all shuttle and lift transport. This is an advanced trip built for experienced riders ready to take on real mountain terrain, not a bike park.

Day 1: Arrival in Aosta
Arrival in Aosta — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

Arrive in Aosta, check into your cozy mountain hotel. We gather the group for a welcome briefing and talk through the trip, making sure everyone is set for the adventure ahead. Bikes get a quick check, bags are sorted for the week, and there’s time to explore the historic town. We wrap up the day with a laid-back Italian dinner together, fueling up for the first big ride tomorrow.

Accommodation: Boutique hotel in Aosta

Day 2: Pila
Pila — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

Our first day on the bike is dedicated to the best natural trails in Pila to get into the flow of things. Hopping onto chair lifts, we’ll get to high altitude trails keeping away from the bike park.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Distance: Up to 45 km (28 mi)
Elevation: Up to 1,800 m (5,900 ft) descent
Accommodation: Boutique hotel in Aosta

Day 3: The Big Ridge
The Big Ridge — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

A shuttle and a pedal climb take us up to a high ridge with sweeping views across the valley, including a short 300 m (984 ft) hike-a-bike section to reach the top—standard alpine access on a trip like this, not a detour. From there, it’s ridge riding, forest flow, and riverside singletrack most of the way down.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Distance: Up to 45 km (28 mi)
Elevation: Up to 1,900 m (6,230 ft) descent
Accommodation: Boutique hotel in Aosta

Day 4: Natural trails above Aosta & a mountain hut
Natural trails above Aosta & a mountain hut — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

Today’s the big one: a full shuttle day gives us access to some of the best descending around Aosta, adding up to the largest drop of the trip. In the afternoon, we pedal up to a mountain hut, where we’ll spend the night at altitude with dinner waiting when we arrive.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Distance: Up to 55 km (34 mi)
Elevation: Up to 2,000 m (6,560 ft) descent
Accommodation: Mountain hut

Day 5: Legendary Ridge and early finish in Aosta
Legendary Ridge and early finish in Aosta — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

Waking up at altitude in the mountain hut gives us the perfect start. From here, we can either traverse straight into one of the most legendary trails in the valley, or add a short pedal to reach another epic descent. The ride will finish earlier today, so after checking in again at the hotel in Aost, you’ll have a free afternoon to rest, explore the town, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Distance: Up to 60 km (37 mi)
Elevation: Up to 2,000 m (6,560 ft) descent
Accommodation: Boutique Hotel in Aosta

Day 6: Mont Blanc area
Mont Blanc area — Mountain Biking in Aosta Valley, Italy

Today we move to the western side of the valley for a full day of riding around Courmayeur. With the Mont Blanc massif above us, we’ll mix shuttles and short pedalled sections to link panoramic traverses, forest trails and high-mountain viewpoints.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Distance: Up to 60 km (37 mi)
Elevation: Up to 2,000 m (6,560 ft) descent
Accommodation: Boutique hotel in Aosta

Massimo

Massimo
Massimo has been guiding freeride trips in the Aosta Valley since 2008, when what began as riding with friends slowly turned into something bigger. In 2016, he committed to it full-time, building toward a vision for guided freeride experiences that didn't yet exist in the valley. That vision has since grown into a full team effort, shaped by the riders and friends who've joined along the way.
Pierre

Pierre
Pierre was born and raised in the Aosta Valley, and it shows in the way he rides—these are his home trails. He works as a photographer, ski instructor, and MTB guide, splitting the year between the two seasons he loves most. Winters find him on skis, ski touring and freeriding across the valley; once the snow melts, he's back on two wheels, riding local trails or setting off on bikepacking trips to explore new terrain. Being outdoors, in whatever form that takes, is simply how Pierre lives—and he brings that same energy and local knowledge to every guest who joins him on the trail.
Maurizio

If you’re looking for your standard mountain bike guide and service, this isn’t the place. This isn’t the place because this company goes above and beyond to ensure the highest quality service that is most likely guaranteed to exceed all your expectations. My wife and I just finished a hut to hut tour with them (Emanuele was our guide, and couldn’t recommend him enough) and we couldn’t be more satisfied, thrilled, and excited to return.

  • Yes—this is not a beginner-friendly tour. You should have several years of mountain biking experience and feel confident on:

      • Steep, exposed singletrack with real consequences if you fall
      • Technical rock gardens and loose terrain
      • Sustained descents that can run for thousands of meters without a break
      • Short sections of hike-a-bike, carrying or pushing your bike over terrain too rough to ride

Your guide will adjust the pace and can skip the most exposed lines if needed, but this trip is built for riders who already know how to handle alpine terrain, not those looking to learn.

  • The Aosta Valley is one of the wildest corners of the Italian Alps for mountain biking—a deep, glacier-carved valley ringed by 4,000-meter peaks, with a trail network shaped by centuries of shepherds, hunters, and traders rather than trail builders. Chairlifts and shuttles give riders access to high alpine terrain without the climbing, so a single day can link ridgeline singletrack, forest flow, and riverside trails that would otherwise take days to reach on pedal power alone.

  • Gear:

      • Fully serviced full-suspension mountain bike (can be rented on request)
      • Helmet (mandatory), gloves, sunglasses
      • Hydration backpack or bottles (2L minimum)
      • Basic bike repair kit and spare tube
      • Small backpack for daily essentials (25–30L recommended)

    Clothing:

      • Padded cycling shorts and jerseys
      • Weather-appropriate layers (windbreaker, rain jacket, warm layers for high passes)
      • Sunhat, sunscreen, and casual clothes/shoes for evenings

    Other:

      • Personal items (toiletries, small first-aid kit, blister care)
      • Snacks and energy food for riding days
      • Optional: camera, phone, power bank

Dress for mountain weather in clothes you can move in—layers work best and avoid jeans.
