There’s a reason the Fodom Circuit shows up in the Giro d’Italia, and a reason most cyclists only catch it on television. On an e-bike from Alta Badia, we ride it properly: three legendary passes in a day, then through Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, over Passo delle Erbe, and all the way to the turquoise mirror of Lago di Braies. South Tyrol in Italy delivers at every turn: Ladin villages, serious mountain food, and the kind of switchbacks that make every meal taste better. Are you ready to ride?

The adventure, day by day

This 6-day guided e-bike adventure in Italy runs through the Dolomites of South Tyrol, starting and ending in the Alta Badia and Brunico area. We ride through the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, tackle the three legendary passes of the Fodom Circuit, climb Passo delle Erbe with views of the towering Sas de Putia, and finish with a spin along the Pusteria Valley to Lago di Braies. Five days of riding on an e-bike, with 4-star hotels every night and the full weight of Dolomites scenery at every turn.

Day 1: Arrival
Arrival Alta Badia bike

Arrive in Alta Badia and check into the hotel, set in a broad mountain valley at the heart of the Dolomites. South Tyrol’s layered history shows in everything here: the architecture, the place names, and the cuisine all carry traces of the Austrian Tirol it was before the First World War. The valley is still home to the Ladini, a people with their own distinct Rhaeto-Romance language and ancient traditions. The afternoon is free to explore and settle in before the week ahead.

Accommodation: Hotel in Alta Badia
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: E-bike from Alta Badia to Pederü
Alta Badia bikers

We meet our guide in the morning, collect bikes and helmets, and roll out for the first full day in the saddle. The route descends to Longega at 1,015 m (3,330 ft), passing through the quiet villages of Pedraces and Piccolino, before climbing to the picturesque town of San Vigilio di Marebbe. From there we continue up to Pederü at 1,548 m (5,079 ft), the trailhead for Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, where alpine meadows and pine forests stretch across the horizon. After exploring, we retrace our route and spin back to Alta Badia.

Accommodation: Hotel in Alta Badia
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 77 km (47 mi)
Elevation: +1,123 m (+3,683 ft) / −1,123 m (−3,683 ft)

Day 3: The Fodom Circuit
Dolomites view and biking

We set out for one of the most celebrated road loops in the Dolomites. Starting from Alta Badia, we climb to Passo Campolongo at 1,875 m (6,150 ft) and drop into Arabba, then push up through Passo Falzarego at 2,105 m (6,906 ft) and the neighboring Passo Valparola at 2,168 m (7,113 ft) before sweeping back toward the valley. All three passes have featured in the Giro d’Italia, and the panoramas from each one justify every meter of climbing.

Accommodation: Hotel in Alta Badia
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 45.5 km (28 mi)
Elevation: +1,500 m (+4,921 ft) / −1,500 m (−4,921 ft)

Day 4: Over Passo delle Erbe to Brunico
Brunico panorama

We leave Alta Badia and ride down through Piccolino before beginning the day’s main climb to Passo delle Erbe (Würzjoch) at 2,006 m (6,581 ft), framed beneath the dramatic limestone peak of Sas de Putia. It’s a long, rewarding ascent with wide-open views that count among the week’s best. A sweeping descent follows through tranquil forested slopes and alpine meadows, eventually arriving in the cultural city of Bressanone, with our hotel waiting in Brunico.

Accommodation: Hotel in Brunico
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 57.2 km (35.5 mi)
Elevation: +1,162 m (+3,812 ft) / −2,080 m (−6,824 ft)

Day 5: Brunico to Lago di Braies
Lake Dolomites view

From Brunico, we ride out through the village of Riscone and follow well-maintained cycle paths across the gentle, rolling Pusteria Valley. The route builds to our destination: Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee), a lake of that particular Dolomite turquoise, ringed by pine forest and soaring limestone cliffs. After time at the water’s edge, we retrace our route or take a slightly different return to Brunico for a final evening in the mountains.

Accommodation: Hotel in Brunico
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 61.6 km (38.2 mi)
Elevation: +828 m (+2,717 ft) / −828 m (−2,717 ft)
