This is not a route you’d stumble onto on your own, it took years of riding around the Swiss Alps to put it together! You’ll be in good hands: a local guide who knows these mountains inside out, five days of riding through the best of the canton of Bern, and every last detail sorted. We’re talking rolling Emmental hills, deep forests, unspoiled alpine pastures, and a finale at Schwarzsee that the whole team considers the trip’s crown jewel. Steady climbs, playful descents, gourmet stops, charming villages, and beds worth coming back to. Equal parts adventure and ease—which, honestly, is exactly how we think a great trip should feel.

The adventure, day by day

A 5-day guided gravel bike tour through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the canton of Bern—rolling Emmental hills, dense forests, unspoiled alpine pastures, and a dramatic finale at Schwarzsee lake. Stages are designed for active cyclists looking to explore Switzerland at a genuine pace, with all logistics, meals, and accommodation handled. Nights are spent in hand-picked Swiss lodges and mountain inns, and a certified guide and mechanic are with the group every step of the way. Small groups of up to 10 riders keep it personal from start to finish.

Day 1: Arrival in Bern & warm-up ride
street riding switzerland

We meet at 11 am at Bern train station—Bern, Switzerland’s medieval capital with its sandstone arcades and clock towers—before settling into our base camp and sitting down for lunch together. The afternoon brings our first spin on the gravel bikes: a warm-up loop up to the Belpberg heights, with quiet backroads, smooth trails, and the first panoramic views of the Bernese Alps opening up ahead. A gentle introduction to the rhythm of the trip. In the evening, we gather at the base camp for a proper group welcome.

Meals: Lunch, dinner
Cycling: 67 km (42 mi)
Elevation: +980 m (+3,215 ft)
Accommodation: Swiss hotel, alpine lodge, or traditional inn

Day 2: From Bern to Langnau—immersion in the Emmental
cows blocking road switzerland

We head east into the Emmental—one of Switzerland’s most iconic regions, known for its undulating green hills, lush meadows, and the large, distinctively shaped farmhouses that give the area its character. The route alternates between quiet secondary roads and smooth gravel tracks, with a coffee stop in Burgdorf, a charming historic market town, breaking up the morning. The afternoon rolls on through the Swiss countryside all the way to Langnau im Emmental. We arrive in the early evening to a well-earned aperitif and the kind of conversation that only comes after a good day in the saddle.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Cycling: 63 km (39 mi)
Elevation: +1,250 m (+4,101 ft)
Accommodation: Swiss hotel, alpine lodge, or traditional inn

Day 3: From Langnau to Längenbühl—heading into the Pre-Alps
switzerland village riding

The landscape shifts today as the Swiss Pre-Alps begin to make themselves known—the terrain grows more rugged, the views wider, the air a little sharper. We wind through Swiss forests and open alpine pastures on a varied gravel route, with a few well-placed coffee stops along the way. By afternoon, we’re well into a wilder stretch of the country, and the feeling of a proper bikepacking adventure starts to set in. We finish in Längenbühl, a peaceful spot in the foothills—a great place to rest and get ready for the most alpine day yet.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Cycling: 60 km (37 mi)
Elevation: +1,270 m (+4,167 ft)
Accommodation: Swiss hotel, alpine lodge, or traditional inn

Day 4: From Längenbühl to Schwarzsee—the alpine stage
aerial swiss alps sunny

The day everyone talks about. We head toward the Gantrisch massif, climbing gradually through Swiss forests and high alpine pastures with breathtaking views building around every bend. The ascent to the Gurnigel Pass is the key moment of the day—we stop for a well-deserved coffee at the top with panoramas spreading out across the Alps in all directions. Then the descent begins, winding down to Schwarzsee, an idyllic glacial lake nestled in the mountains with nothing but pristine nature around it. Dinner with a view of the lake closes out an unforgettable day.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Swiss hotel, alpine lodge, or traditional inn

Day 5: From Schwarzsee back to Bern—scenic return ride
holding bike switzerland

The final day brings the full circle. We start with a rolling section along the mountains before a more sustained and playful descent back toward the plains, gradually trading alpine scenery for the familiar outskirts of Bern. We enjoy one last lunch together on the road before rolling into the city. Return to Bern from 4 pm, with the option to freshen up before heading home. Five days of stunning landscapes, physical challenge, and—above all—great company.
