Bavaria e-Bike Tour: From Lake Constance to Lake Tegernsee

8 days | Moderate | 5.00

We’ve done this route more times than we can count, and it still gets us every time; round a bend and there’s a castle, an Alpine lake, or a monastery that’s been standing since the 8th century. This e-bike tour leans into all of it: we roll from the medieval harbor of Lindau on Lake Constance into the foothills of the Alps, through rolling Allgäu meadows, past King Ludwig’s castles, and deep into the quiet Bavarian countryside. The riding is scenic and varied, the e-bikes handle the climbing, and every evening ends in a hotel worth looking forward to—right up to a five-star hotel on the Tegernsee. No rushing, no logistics to stress about, just Bavaria, an e-bike, and good company.

Adventure Highlights

  • Connect two incredible lakes: Eight days of cycling connect two of southern Germany’s most spectacular bodies of water through Alpine foothills, forests, and Bavarian villages most tourists never find
  • A five-star finish on the Tegernsee: The tour ends at the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt, a five-star hotel sitting directly on one of Bavaria’s most beautiful lakes—a proper send-off after a week in the saddle
  • Castle, monasteries, ruins, and more: Neuschwanstein, the crumbling heights of Falkenstein Castle, the UNESCO-listed Wieskirche… Bavaria keeps throwing things at you, and they’re all worth stopping for

The adventure, day by day

This 8-day guided e-bike tour connects Lake Constance to Lake Tegernsee through the Allgäu and the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Expert guides lead the way on quiet forest and meadow paths, with a support vehicle always available for luggage and transfers. Most meals are included, and each night is spent in a carefully selected hotel chosen for location and character—ending with one unforgettable night at a five-star lakeshore hotel on the Tegernsee. With all logistics handled, there's nothing to organize and nowhere to rush.

Day 1: Arrival in Lindau on Lake Constance
Lindau entrance

Make your way to Lindau, the starting point. The train station is just a short stroll from the hotel, making it the most convenient way to get here. At 4 pm, we’ll meet the guide at the hotel, right by the harbor. After a warm welcome, we set off on a guided city tour: winding alleys, a magnificently painted town hall with stepped gables, and the famous harbor entrance flanked by a lighthouse and a towering stone lion. Lindau is a medieval gem, and it doesn’t take long to see why.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel Lindauer Hof****, Lindau

Day 2: From Lake Constance to the lovely Allgäu
immenstadt lake near

We leave Lindau following the scenic Leiblach river route into the Allgäu. Along the way, we pass the quaint Gothic Church of St. Stephen in Genhofen—located at the foot of the steep Hahnschenkel section of the old salt road, notorious for its difficulty for horse-drawn carriages. E-bikes make it a breeze. We take a break in Oberstaufen before continuing to Immenstadt, where our hotel sits above the Alpsee lake with views across the Constance valley.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 67 km (42 mi)
Accommodation: Hotel Rothenfels & Panorama Restaurant***, Immenstadt

Day 3: From Immenstadt to mountains, castles, and lakes
fussen city center

We set off from Marienplatz in Immenstadt along the banks of the Iller River, with the imposing Grünten massif—peaking at 1,738 m (5,702 ft)—rising to the east. The route winds through beautiful scenery as we make our way deeper into the Alps. The day ends in Füssen, a lovely alpine town known for its medieval streets, crystal-clear lakes, and the nearby fairytale castles of King Ludwig II. We stay here for two nights.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 55 km (34 mi)
Accommodation: Hotel Füssen**** or Hotel Hirsch****, Füssen

Day 4: Fairytale castles around Füssen and a short trip into Austria
Castle Neuschwanstein

Today is all about castles. We ride through verdant farmland to Speiden, where the Mariahilf pilgrimage church marks the start of a spectacular loop. We encounter the towering ruins of Falkenstein Castle—Germany’s highest castle—before crossing briefly into Tyrol, passing the former Vilsegg fortifications. Back in Germany, we reach the iconic royal castles: Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig II’s most famous creations. We loop back to Füssen via the Lech Bridge and the tranquil Hopfensee.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 45 km (28 mi)
Accommodation: Hotel Füssen**** (June) / Hotel Hirsch**** (September), Füssen

Day 5: Panoramic tour into the Ammergau mountains
hohenschwangau germany

After a few scenic kilometers on e-bikes, we reach the Tegelbergbahn valley station, park our bikes, and ride the cable car up to the summit of Tegelberg at 1,880 m (6,168 ft). Panoramic views of King Ludwig’s dream castles and the surrounding Alps unfold—keep an eye out for ibexes on the short hike up top. Back in the valley, we continue past Bannwaldsee and through the forested Ammergau hills to the Wieskirche, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its extraordinary Rococo architecture. We finish the day in Bad Kohlgrub.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 59 km (37 mi)
Accommodation: Hotel Schillingshof****, Bad Kohlgrub

Day 6: Bavarian monastery and the spa town of Bad Tölz
bad tolz germany

We head out through the species-rich Murnauer Moos wetlands toward Kochel am See, where we take a long break to visit the Franz Marc Museum—home to works of the Expressionist “Blauer Reiter” movement by Franz Marc and Wassily Kandinsky. We then continue to Benediktbeuern, where a Salesian monastery with over 1,250 years of history opens parts of its grounds to visitors. The day ends in Bad Tölz, a lively Bavarian spa town with a beautiful market street and historic spa district—dinner tonight is on your own, giving you the freedom to explore wherever you please.

Meals: Breakfast
Cycling: 69 km (43 mi)
Accommodation: Hotel am Wald***, Bad Tölz

Day 7: From Bad Tölz to Lake Tegernsee
lake tegernsee boat

We leave Bad Tölz on a beautiful ride through the countryside via Gaißach and the scenic Attenloher Filze moorlands. The striking tower of Reichersbeuern Church appears on the horizon, and just ahead, Reichersbeuern Castle—set beside a tranquil pond and now home to a private high school—makes for a memorable stop. As we approach Lake Tegernsee, a final descent delivers sweeping views of the surrounding Alps. On the lake, we board a boat for a celebratory cruise with sparkling wine before arriving in Rottach-Egern for our final evening.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Cycling: 28 km (17 mi)
Accommodation: Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt*****, Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee

Day 8: Departure from Lake Tegernsee
lake tegernsee

After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to head home. Tegernsee has convenient train connections—Munich’s main station is about an hour away by rail. Alternatively, a private return transfer back to Lindau (approximately 230 km / 143 mi, around 3 hours) can be arranged as an optional add-on.
