In Northern Patagonia, we hike straight into the good stuff, volcanoes, bright blue lakes, waterfalls, forests, and trails that still feel properly wild, all in just five days. This luxury hotel-based trip is all about big, rewarding days out paired with the kind of comfort we’ll be very happy to come back to: beautiful hotels, great food, and everything taken care of from the moment you land. We keep the group small, move at a good pace, and make sure we experience this place the way it should be experienced, up close, on foot, and without ever worrying about the details.

The adventure, day by day

Join us on a 5-day hiking adventure through Northern Patagonia’s most diverse terrain, from volcanic slopes and lava fields to ancient forests and bright blue lakes. Each day we set out on guided hikes with rewarding elevation gains and constantly changing scenery, designed for hikers who want real trail time without unnecessary logistics. We’re staying in comfortable hotels every night, with all breakfasts, picnic lunches, and dinners included, along with airport transfers and all transport during the trip. With a small group and an experienced guide, everything runs smoothly so we can focus on what matters, great hikes, big views, and fully experiencing Patagonia on foot.

Day 1: Arrival
Puerto Varas in Chile

Upon arrival at Puerto Montt Airport, you’ll be transferred to Puerto Varas, our base on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. After settling into our lakeside hotel, we take it easy with an optional walk along the waterfront, with views of nearby volcanoes already setting the tone. In the evening, we meet for a short briefing and a welcome dinner overlooking the Andes.

Accommodation: Hotel AWA
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Paso Desolación and lake crossing
National park hike in patagonia

On Day 2, we’ll head into Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park to hike the historic Paso Desolación route. Starting in lush rainforest, we gradually climb into volcanic terrain, opening up views over Lago Todos los Santos and surrounding peaks. After the hike, we switch perspectives with a private boat crossing of the lake, enjoying a picnic along the way.

Accommodation: Hotel AWA
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Hiking: 12 km (7.5 mi), 7–8 hours
Elevation gain: +350 m (+1,150 ft)

Day 3: Waterfalls, lagoon, and hot springs
Petrohue falls in patagonia

Today, we start at the Petrohué waterfalls, then continue with an easy hike around Laguna Cayetué, surrounded by dense rainforest and volcanic backdrops. In the afternoon, we head toward the fjordlands of Cochamó for a soak in riverside hot springs, before continuing to Ensenada for the night.

Accommodation: Entre Volcanes Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Hiking: 6–8 km (3.7–5 mi), ~7–8 hours
Elevation gain: +200 m (+650 ft)

Day 4: Volcán Casablanca summit
Puyehue park patagonia

We’ll transfer early to Puyehue National Park and set out to summit Volcán Casablanca via the Antillanca route. The hike starts across open volcanic terrain and climbs steadily to the top, with sections of loose scree adding to the challenge. From the summit, we take in wide views of the Andes, surrounding volcanoes, and glacial lakes before descending and heading to thermal baths for a well-earned recovery.
