Mont Blanc e-MTB Adventure: Explore France, Italy & Switzerland

I ride around Mont Blanc because it’s absurd: three countries, towering peaks, and more alpine drama than one bike trip reasonably deserves. The e-MTB is the secret weapon here, taking the sting out of the climbs so we can chase the good stuff: high passes, fast singletrack, and descents that make you laugh out loud inside your helmet. We start in Chamonix and loop through France, Switzerland, and Italy while avoiding busy hiking trails, linking big terrain with small villages, excellent hotels, and seriously good alpine food. It’s five days of riding that feels ambitious without being punishing—and just unhinged enough to be memorable.

The adventure, day by day

This 5-day Mont Blanc e-MTB journey pairs serious alpine riding with the comforts that keep it fun and sustainable. Starting and finishing in Chamonix, we cross France, Switzerland, and Italy on trails chosen for flow, views, and ride quality, not brute suffering. The e-MTB smooths out the long climbs, unlocking high passes and grin-worthy descents without turning the week into a grind. Between big mountain days, there’s time for quiet villages, dangerously good regional food, and nights in very comfortable alpine hotels.

Day 1: Chamonix to Verbier
Autumn in Chamonix

We start in Chamonix with a detailed briefing before riding out toward Switzerland on high alpine trails with constant views of Mont Blanc. The route moves through alpine meadows, forests, and panoramic ridges before descending into Verbier. It’s a strong opening day that sets the tone for the week with big scenery and rewarding descents.

Day 2: Verbier to Col du Grand Saint-Bernard
E-bikers on a trail

Riding above Verbier, the day features sweeping views of Grand Combin and the Mont Blanc massif, with flowing descents and classic alpine singletrack. A lunch stop in a mountain inn breaks up the day before we continue through wild pastures toward the historic Col du Grand Saint-Bernard. The sense of scale grows as we climb higher into true alpine terrain.

Biking: 26 mi (42 km)
Elevation: +8,000 ft (+2,440 m) / -9,500 ft (-2,895 m)

Day 3: Col du Grand Saint-Bernard to La Thuile
Bikers udnerneath a mountain

We leave Switzerland behind and descend into Italy’s Aosta Valley on ancient mountain paths and village trails. The scenery shifts noticeably, with warmer tones, stone villages, and a slower rhythm. After lunch, a short vehicle shuttle sets us up for a long final descent into La Thuile and a well-earned evening of recovery.

Day 4: La Thuile to Beaufort
Bikers eating fondue

Crossing back into France, we ride high mountain passes with Mont Blanc never far from view. The terrain opens into the Beaufortain, known for rolling pastures, alpine farms, and long scenic descents. It’s a day that blends big riding with a distinctly pastoral feel.

Bikers high fiving

Meals: Breakfast
Biking: 29 mi (47 km)

Excellent guiding that gives every rider confidence. From picking a route within capability to tuning your bike to get the most out of the ride – no corner is cut. In our tour Adria had to make numerous decisions based on weather, group fatigue, washed out bridges… and every time a safe, yet challenging ride was achieved. Outstanding!!

  • Yes. The e-MTB makes long climbs far more enjoyable and opens up bigger terrain without exhausting you, but you’ll still need solid bike handling skills on the downhills. If you regularly ride intermediate trails and enjoy technical variety, you’ll thrive here.

Because the Alps can be technically challenging in some sections, it’s recommended that you regularly practice mountain biking for at least half a year, or engage in sports frequently.

This journey is about building on the skills you already have and putting them to work in some of the most spectacular mountain terrain in Europe.

  • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

      • Day pack large enough to fit everything you might need throughout the day (around a 25-40L bag) — van support / luggage transfer is available!
      • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
      • Cycling shoes
      • Comfortable cycling clothes
      • Spare clothes for layering
      • Waterproof rain jacket
      • Sunhat
      • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, tissues, etc.)
      • Headlamp or flashlight
      • Sunglasses
      • Camera — optional (but recommended)

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.
