Cycling Adventure in Corsica, France: The Ultimate Island Ride

Welcome to Corsica, where the roads are smoother than a glass of Bordeaux and the climbs hit harder than a Serge Gainsbourg ballad! Corsica’s roads don’t just take us places—they tell a story packed with winding coastal epics, alpine thrillers, and the occasional plot twist (hello, pigs on the pass!). The Col de Vergio? That’s the slow-burn character development. The descents? Heart-racing action sequences. And the final sprint into Bastia? That’s the cinematic grand finale. But don’t worry, this cycling adventure comes with gourmet plot devices—think fresh seafood, chestnut delicacies, and pastries so good we’ll need a sequel. Ready to cycle? Lights, camera, allez!

Adventure highlights

  • Cols for days
From Vergio to Bavella, Corsica’s legendary climbs will test your legs and reward your soul
  • Pedal to the past
Pedal through ancient villages, stone chapels, and mountain hamlets where the past feels alive
  • Espresso with a view
A mid-ride coffee stop never tasted so good—especially when paired with mountain panoramas

Itinerary

Some say Corsica is France’s best-kept cycling secret. We say it’s a secret worth sharing. This seven-day road bike odyssey has everything: soaring cols, sweeping Mediterranean views, and roads that feel like they were designed for pure riding joy. We’ll tackle the iconic Col de Vergio, descend the stunning Scala Santa Regina, and cruise through ancient villages where the only traffic jam involves a few stubborn goats. The reward? Post-ride feasts of Corsican specialties, sunsets over the sea, and the kind of deep, satisfied exhaustion that only comes from the perfect ride. This is cycling, Corsica-style—and it’s glorious.

  • This first stage starts from Bastia and heads westwards up over the Col de Teghime. From here, we’ll leave Bastia behind, and the view will open out to the west, over to the magnificent bay of St-Florent. The road sweeps downhill from here, through Patrimonio, a region known for its vineyards (a quick stop to taste a few good wines is not a bad idea). We will then cross St-Florent and ride through the Corsican desert (le désert des Agriates), before reaching the small villages of the Balagne, on the northwest coast. Later on, there’s a night stop in Calvi.

    Porto in Corsica
  • Leaving Porto and the coast, today’s stage leads us through stunning Spelunca gorges into the Aïtone-forest and up to the highest road pass of the island, the Col de Vergio. Don’t be surprised to see some pigs, cows, goats or other wildlife on our way.

A long downhill awaits (the twisty and narrow Scala Santa Regina is just pure pleasure!), before crossing Corte (where the island’s university is located), and finally reaching the region of Venaco.

The next pass is a bit easier, and offers unique views of the Corsican countryside. We’ll ride downhill again on a twisty road before rolling into Corte, the historical capital of the island.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Milan Royal (a local bird of prey) flying gracefully through the sky. Soon, we will reach the east coast again, and Bastia is not much further, which marks the end of this tour.
