Bike and Sail Croatia’s Coastal Jewels in Style

Croatia holds a special place in our hearts. It’s where our founders are from, where most of the 57hours team lives, and where our first investors summit was held. And though it’s a small country, Croatia offers a decent number of adventure opportunities—it’s where many of us had our first raw experiences in the outdoors. But we’re not selfish people, and we want to share “the land of a thousand islands” with all of you—and what better way to do that than by going on a bike & sail adventure with the best Croatian guide that we know?

This week-long odyssey will have us mountain biking on some of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, enjoying life on board a modern sailboat, and trying out ridiculously delicious food (and wine!). Forget about the Alps or South America—welcome to the alluring Adriatic so we can give you a taste of the Croatian way of life.

Adventure highlights

  • Luxurious sailboat as your home for the week
Feel the freedom of sailing Adriatic waters on a sleek sailboat
  • Adrenaline-fueled rides on Mediterranean landscapes
Ride macadam singletracks, flowy switchbacks, ancient roads, and old shepherd paths
  • Feast for the senses
Enjoy glimmering blue seas, salt and mountain air, and authentic Croatian delicacies

Itinerary

Come join us in Croatia, a place which many of us from the 57hours team call home. We’ll have a modern and spacious sailboat, incredible mountain biking trails, and the best possible guide (that knows every nook and cranny of the islands and other gems they’ll be leading us through). This Croatian bike & sail adventure takes place in the dreamy Dalmatia, where we’ll relax next to the crystal-clear sea, relish authentic dishes, and be surrounded with lavender, rosemary, and salt-infused air.

  • Welcome to Croatia, the beautiful land of a thousand islands! Make your way to Trogir, Dalmatia, and have lunch before making your way to the marina. Board the sailing boat—this marks the official start of our week-long sailing and biking adventure. After a safety briefing, we will head for Milna, a traditional Dalmatian village on the island of Brač. Spend the afternoon sightseeing and enjoy a traditional dinner by the seaside.

Today your guide will take you on a trial run to assess your skill and fitness level. You’ll ride for 10 miles (15 km) with an elevation up to 1640 ft (500 m).

    Trogir town in Croatia
  • After a hearty traditional Croatian breakfast on board, we will head out for a 12-mile (20 km) bike ride from Milna to Blaca desert. The ride starts off as a challenging uphill, but turns into a nice, rocky singletrack. Halfway down the trail, we will visit a 500-year-old Blaca monastery, a stunning landmark crafted fully in stone by monks. The ride ends on a beautiful beach, where the boat will be waiting for us.

After a swim break, we will set sail towards the Sunny Hvar, an island steeped in history and with the most days of sunshine in the Adriatic. We’ll spend the night in Stari Grad, an ancient Greek settlement and the oldest town in Croatia.

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

  • Today we will ride the trail from Stari Grad to the town of Hvar, cycling across UNESCO-protected ancient Greek fields. Our sailboat will be waiting for us in a bay nearby. Apart from its fascinating history and beautiful nature, Hvar has something else to offer: an exciting nightlife, as the town of Hvar is one of Croatia’s best-known party hotspots. We will either spend the night there or we can head directly towards the island of Vis.

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

  • The history of Vis goes 2,300 years back, when it was a Greek colony called Issa. Due to its strategic location, it was a military zone until 1995, prohibited for foreign tourists—but today you get to choose how to spend Day 5 on the island. You can ride hard (not recommended if you partied hard the night before), or take it easy and visit the world-famous Stiniva beach, a picturesque cove surrounded by massive cliffs. Afterwards, you can choose to visit one of the many post-WWII bunkers on the island before heading out to do some evening wine tasting.

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

    Vis, Croatia
  • Back to Brač! Brač is the highest island in the Adriatic, and today we’re going straight to the top! Following a difficult uphill, we will ride some nice and long technicals. On our way back to the boat, we will visit a welcoming local family for some olive oil and wine tasting. Relish authentic meals over dinner there before we head back to the boat.

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

  • Nestled at the foot of rugged and steep cliffs, Omiš is a beautiful port town at the mouth of the Cetina River boasting fantastic biking trails. Once an ancient pirate town, today it’s a beloved holiday destination, especially for those looking for a more active vacation. Today we will ride one of the best trails and drink one of the best beers in Croatia!

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

  • From Omiš, ride to the world-famous Split or the medieval town of Trogir, depending on how fit you’re feeling. If you’re up for it, you can also take an optional bike ride to Čiovo, an island near Trogir, or explore Marjan hill, a 400-foot (123 m) high forest park with breathtaking panoramic views of Split and its surroundings.

We’ll ride 12-30 miles (20-50 km) depending on the weather conditions and group’s preferences.

  • As we disembark from the sailboat, it’s time to say goodbye. You can head back to the airport, but Croatia has lots of natural riches that’ll make you want to stick around. Perhaps visit the capital, Zagreb, and you can stop at the Plitvice Lakes National Park along the way! Just ask your hosts for some recommendations, they’ll be happy to help you out!

Ivo’s trip was mindblowing! It was so much fun. I’ve never used a mountain bike guide before but Ivo’s unparalleled knowledge of the local trails and history made a massive difference! We rode trails we’d have never ever found (secret entrances to centuries old paths!) and who’d have guessed such trails were such fun bike trails! Techy, rocky, steep, (but only in spots) with steps and switchbacks, plus other more flowy ones cross country kinds, all leading down to little villages, espressos, and jumping in the blue, blue, Adriatic Sea. Adrenaline and sensory overload in the best way. Ivo knows every foot of every trail – gives you the most detailed lowdown of all time- and happens to be a badass rider and humble Croatian bike star, we discovered too. Worth it!

Ivo was an amazing guide. His knowledge of the trails and locations was amazing. He made changes to our itinerary based on our needs. I’m a better mountain biker bc of him.

Ivo is a beautiful rider and knows the terrain inside out. He is flexible, fun, responsible and trustworthy. We had loads of options at every turn – he did everything possible to make our adventure exactly what we wanted it to be! From accommodating different levels, to restaurants and interesting stops, Ivo has it nailed! His choice of 2nd guide, Jelena, and Skipper Matthew were perfect. Great crew!

Depending on availability, you’ll either board the catamaran Lagoon 42 or a sleek gulet, a traditional Turkish two-masted schooner. These roomy modern yachts with en-suite bathrooms, wardrobes, and electricity are capable of accommodating your every need. Renting a charter boat means that you have the freedom to make your own schedule and go wherever the wind and desire takes you.

After a filling Croatian breakfast, relax and shoot the breeze on the wood-clad galley and lounge area, or cool off in your air-conditioned cabin. The spacious deck is ideal for sunbathing and stargazing under the boundless Mediterranean skies. Your guides and skipper will help you create an itinerary that suits your travel needs and wishes. • It is preferable you have some basic mountain biking experience. However, if you know how to cycle and have an adventurous spirit, your guide will explain the different mountain bike techniques and body positions to get you feeling comfortable on the trail. Another option is that you simply spend the day on the boat or exploring the islands on foot on your own.

  • Dalmatia’s mild Mediterranean climate boasts perfect weather year-round. Tours are scheduled to fit with the seasons and ideal cycling conditions. When the weather does not cooperate, your guide will know the correct course of action to take. Whether that’s shifting to a more favorable location or postponing until conditions approve, your guide will know just what to do. In the event of predictably bad weather, you will be contacted prior to the trip to discuss suitable alternatives.

  • Here’s what you’ll need:

      • MTB helmet
      • Comfortable riding or athletic clothing, preferably moisture-wicking or synthetic material, for a week of mountain biking
      • Casual clothing for sightseeing and evenings
      • Swimwear
      • Sneakers or sport shoes
      • Light rain jacket
      • Sunglasses

      • Daypack with snacks
      • Biking gloves are optional but recommended
      • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)

Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

  • Group sizes and prices:

      • Maximum group size is 6 per boat. If there is a lot of interest, we will look into adding a second boat.
      • The cost does not decrease as the group grows.
  • To get to the start of this tour, most people fly into Split Airport (SPU) and take a taxi or bus to Trogir about half an hour away.
