E-MTB Adventure in Slovenia: Discovering Karavanke Mountains

6 days | Moderate to Challenging | 5.00

Slovenia’s Karavanke range stays wonderfully free of crowds, where time slows down and local life still shapes every moment, from quiet forest roads to alpine pastures where shepherds still graze their herds each summer. Over six days, we ride old border trails, high mountain passes, and singletrack that few visitors ever find, uncovering a side of the mountains most people never see. This isn’t your usual e-bike tour: our e-MTBs turn steep climbs into pure fun rather than a grind, leaving plenty of energy for evenings spent relaxing at a boutique hotel, swapping stories over traditional Slovenian food in local restaurants.

The adventure, day by day

Day 0: Arrival
View of Lake Bled

To make the most of your Karavanke Mountains e-MTB adventure, we encourage you to arrive one day before the tour begins. A relaxed arrival also provides peace of mind, especially if you’re travelling from abroad, ensuring that unexpected flight delays won’t interfere with the start of your journey. Take time to explore the world-famous Lake Bled and adjust into new surroundings. We can help you book the accommodation at Trivrh Outdoor Hotel, since this is where your guides will meet you tomorrow morning.

Discover the hidden heart of the Karavanke

Arrive at Trivrh Outdoor Hotel at 10 am and meet up with your guide and fellow riders. After a relaxed bike fitting, set off from Tržič straight into the wild beauty of Slovenia’s alpine forest. Climb through spruce forests toward pastures dotted with shepherd huts, soaking in your first tastes of mountain panoramas before dropping into your first flowy descent of forest trails and singletrack that brings you back to hotel. By completing a perfect opening loop into Slovenia’s mountain biking world, you’re already steeped in the Karavanke spirit. But the day isn’t over yet. Tonight, we’ll gather around the table at a local restaurant to enjoy traditional Slovenian food, raise a glass to the adventure ahead, and share the stories of our first day in the mountains.

Along the forgotten border

Today, we pedal into higher ground, tracing peaceful trails through the Završnica Valley and up to the high-alpine plateau of Zelenica, just beneath the imposing limestone peaks of the Karavanke. Historic border patrol singletracks wind under towering peaks and lead us to a mountain hut where we stop for a break. After lunch, flowing mountain descents under the ridge carry us back to the comfort of the hotel, with fresh mountain air and rewarding after-ride beer.

Beneath the king of the Karavanke

After yesterday’s big mountain adventure, today’s ride reveals a more intimate side of the Karavanke. We ease into riding beneath the mighty Mt. Stol, the highest mountain in the range. Lush forests set the scene for a climb to the iconic Valvasor Hut. We’ll pedal to our favorite plateau that offers one of the most stunning panoramas—from the emarald-blue water of Lake Bled to the majestic summit of Mt.Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak and the heart of the Julian Alps. The day wraps up with an adrenaline kick, a singletrack descend into the Završnica Valley—perfect for a splash in the river—before we roll back to the hotel for hearty Slovenian fare.

Dobrča, the mountain above Tržič

We start the day with a familiar but fresh perspective, climbing by shady forest up to Dobrča, a local classic with a summit view over the whole region—from the Karavanke across to the Kamnik–Savinja Alps and the Julian Alps. Expect a fun ride back: smooth flowing trails, forest play sections, and a vibe that’s more about joy than hard work. Back at the hotel, time to relax, maybe stretch your legs or just soak up the mountain air.

Where the mountains reveal their soul

Today’s ride leads deep into the Karavanke with a long but gradual forest climb toward a secluded alpine pasture. The higher we go, the more the landscape puts on a show. Riding beneath Mt. Storžič rewards us with spectacular panoramas, with countless opportunities to pause—not because you have to, but because the scenery deserves your attention. After lunch, we earn our fun with a flowing descent, mixing open pastures and forest trails that feel custom-made for mountain bikers. Back at base, it’s time to toast another epic ride together.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner

Farewell to Karavanke Mountains

We savor one final breakfast together before saying goodbye to fellow riders and the mountains themselves. Your guide will transfer you to Ljubljana Airport or, if you want a longer stay, drop you off in the city of Ljubljana. Reflect on everything you’ve seen—those memories last way beyond the last ride.

I was lucky enough to join a tour with my friends, and it was an amazing experience. Every day’s route was carefully planned, offering incredible scenery, great local food, and perfect terrain for riding e-MTBs. One thing I really appreciated was how safe I felt throughout the tour. Boštjan knew every trail in detail and always warned us about the more challenging or exposed sections. At the same time, he made sure to show us all the hidden gems along the way, including optional jumps and drops for those who wanted a bit more fun. The trails were reasonably demanding but always had an easier option, or a section you could walk, making the tour suitable for riders with a bit less experience. The whole trip was great fun from start to finish. A big thanks to Boštjan for the excellent guiding and the fantastic atmosphere!

Our guide Boštjan was exceptional, sharing fascinating knowledge about the local nature, wildlife, and history, which made every stop even more meaningful. The e-bikes made the journey enjoyable and accessible, allowing us to cover plenty of ground without feeling exhausted. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure.
