Monserrat Alvarez Matehuala

AMGA certified SPI and Indigenous Climber & Outdoor Educator

Monserrat Alvarez Matehuala (Guachichil & Mexica) was born in Ventura, CA but grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina where she fell in love with community organizing and the outdoors. She is an outdoor educator, community organizer, climber, and danzante currently based in Boulder, CO. In 2016, she was a part of the national founding team of Brown Girls Climb, LLC, a woman of color-led business focused on centering the leadership of women of color climbers in the outdoors and beyond. She currently works as the DEI Manager at the AMGA, is a sponsored athlete with Outdoor Research, and leader with Latino Outdoors Colorado.
