Four days, ancient mountains, and a cozy cabin to come back to every evening—this is the Smokies done right. We hike through old-growth forests, chase waterfalls, and walk a stretch of the legendary Appalachian Trail, returning each night to warm, comfortable cabins with the National Park practically at the back door. Days are active and full of character; evenings are easy, spent around the fire or over a good meal with good company. The kind of trip where you unplug completely, meet people who get it, and leave wondering why you don’t do this more often.

The adventure, day by day

The Great Smoky Mountains are calling, and they’re bringing waterfalls, panoramic views, and world-class trails to the table. Over four incredible days, we’ll hike through mossy forests, stand beneath thundering cascades, and trek a stretch of the legendary Appalachian Trail. With cozy cabin stays, mouthwatering meals, and a zipline finale soaring over the Smokies, this trip blends adventure with comfort in all the best ways. Hike it, feast on it, zip through it—this is the Smokies turned up to full blast.

Day 1: Arrival and first hike
Smoky Mountains waterfall

After meeting the guides and going through an orientation, we will hop in a vehicle and head into the Park for our first hike, leading us to a beautiful Smoky Mountain waterfall. We’ll find a cozy spot on the trail for lunch. After we conclude our hike, we’ll head back to Roamstead, check-in to our cabins and settle in. Dinner will be catered Southern BBQ.

Day 2: Second hike
Hikers in the woods

Day 2 begins with a delicious breakfast. Afterward, we will set out for our second hike to the largest cascade in the Park. We’ll encounter two very different types of trails on this adventure. First, our journey starts on an old roadbed alongside a gorgeous mountain river, surrounded by moss-covered boulders. We’ll then enter another area of some of the largest trees in the Park, followed by the largest cascade in the area. Lunch will be on trail and dinner will be a cookout back at home base.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Hiking: 8 mi (12.8 km)
Elevation gain/loss: 2,200 ft (670 m)
Accommodation: Cabin in Roamstead Campground

Day 3: Third hike
Smoky Mountains view

We’ll begin with another hearty breakfast, then head out to see some great views as we hike along the famous Appalachian Trail. We’ll have lunch at a clearing with beautiful views. Once we complete our hike, we’ll head back to our cabins and freshen up before a nice dinner out in town.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Hiking: 8 mi (12.8 km)
Elevation gain/loss: 2,000 ft (610 m)
Accommodation: Cabin in Roamstead Campground

Day 4: Final hike and departure
Zipline in Smoky Mountains

After we savor our last mountain breakfast of the trip, we’ll head to our final hike. Here we’ll get to dive into the visual history of the Smokies with many sightings of old rock walls, historic structures, and a couple hidden surprises! We’ll take some time to relax and enjoy lunch by the water before heading out of the Park. Then, for one of the best finales to a trip, ziplining! One of the best zipline companies in the area will give us fantastic, panoramic views of the Smokies.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Hiking: 4 mi (6.4 km)
Elevation gain/loss: 700 ft (213 m)

I would definitely recommend these guys they are well trained knowledgeable caring people who saved my friends life. We were not even in their group and they were able to get my friend stable until search and rescue arrived. Brian and Andy I want to thank you personally and I want everyone who is considering using this company to know that I would feel very safe in the wilderness with these guys.

Seriously awesome hike! Jeremy and Lucy were awesome hiking partners as we stomped around the Smoky Mountains. It was really fascinating learning about the ecosystem from the trees, to birds to flowers. You can tell Jeremy has a real passion for the outdoors and is really knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommend booking a tour with this company to learn while you hike!

Did this trip mid-September. The Sourwoods were turning a brilliant read. Still 2-3 weeks to full Fall foliage.
The Great Smokey Mountains are full of beauty and history. While the parking lots and roads were clogged with tourists there are few hikers on trails. Best hike was the hike to Andrew’s Bald and Clingmans Dome (now, Kuwohi), while hiking along the Appalachian Trail. Best history was visiting John Oliver’s cabin.
Jack and Ansley were exceptional guides. They were committed to ensuring everyone was involved in the trip. They were very approachable and easy to talk to. I found the information and knowledge they shared during the hikes to be of great interest. The accommodations at Roamstead were first class. And the food was exceptional. If I was to do this trip again I would go early in the season to enjoy the spring flowers and rhododendrons in bloom. Overall, the trip was an enjoyable 4 days in the Great Smokey Mountains.

Great Time In the Great Smoky Mountains. Just returned from this hiking trip in May 2024 and very glad I selected this adventure. The group was small, the accommodations were outstanding, the guide was extraordinary with excellent knowledge of the flora/fauna as well as history/culture of the region. The hikes were challenging but very doable with adequate advanced training, hiking poles and a good pair of waterproof hikers. Be prepared for wet trails and humidity! Be forewarned – you will not be hungry on this trip. Food portions are large!

Loved this trip! In the last couple of weeks since I returned from this trip, I have found myself thinking a lot about the beautiful area, the things I learned and the people I met. The itinerary was really thoughtful and organized and everything went really smoothly. It was nice to have some free time to recharge or to hang out with the other people in the group. There were a lot of mixed experiences- exploring the towns nearby, different restaurants- even with all the time spent within the park, hiking and going to the visitors center and historical stops within. The lodging was really lovely. The hiking was typical for the east coast, with lots of leaf cover and loose stones. Several of us preferred a faster hiking pace, and the guides helped accommodate that. I was sad when it was over. I’ve already kept in touch with a couple of the people on the trip. It was a great experience.

Great hiking trip with wonderful lodging.
I just came back from this trip and it was a great one. Our guides Megan Clapp and Raechelle Landers were outstanding. Each had such a love for the location and the flora and fauna. Raechelle, in particular, was so excited about the mushrooms and other plants and animals she spotted. The hiking was rated 3 and I think that’s about right. It was strenuous but the fact that the trees form a canopy over the trails gave us shade almost all of the time and that was super helpful.
The nights at Roamstead were especially wonderful. Great food and just a good vibe. The food overall on the trip was very good, with lots of choices. I definitely recommend this trip.

Just returned from the Smoky Mountain tour. Incredible guides, fun lodging, great hikes with seeing diverse trails and indigenous flora and fauna. Incredible guides so knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate. For a lifelong learner I love the education I got in this aesthetic forest and beyond. The tour was well organized and the guides could not have been more precious and professional.
