Learn backcountry touring and avalanche skills!
This two-day on-mountain skiing/splitboard and tour planning course includes key components of avalanche education. You'll build upon the skills you've already acquired skiing/snowboarding at resorts or in the backcountry and apply your knowledge as you travel through the mountains. You'll learn to keep a sharp eye for avalanche conditions and use these skills to discover the best places to ride.
Each day you and your group will start at a coffee shop near the tour location to review the avalanche bulletin. After that, you'll put together a trip plan for the day based on the bulletin, the weather and the group's objectives. You'll also cover companion rescue on the first day.
Next, it's off to the trailhead for two full day tours! You'll focus on skiing or splitboarding fundamentals, kick turns, and quick transitions. Our avalanche education along the way will include terrain recognition, hazard and group management skills.
All participants must be intermediate resort level skiers or have some experience in the backcountry.
