Don't Underestimate skiing at Purcell Lodge!!!!
debbie m (February 2024, source: Tripadvisor)

For an older person who has skied at many of the backcountry lodges in complex terrain in BC, Purcell Lodge is a fabulous step down. It offers rolling terrain for mellow days where you can ski alone (with a radio to keep you safe) and absorb the views across to the Selkirks, great tree skiing, and terrain that will satisfy your needs of steep and deep when you feel more energetic. There is an added bonus offered at no other lodge I know, of a heli-bump to a nearby peak to access the beautiful powder bowls. The Lodge itself is deluxe and rivals any new Lodge. Treat yourself and you won’t regret it.

Fabulous skiing with magnificent views

Fabulous lodge and wonderful staff. Skiing amongst majestic mountains, and weather was perfect. Chef Yousef cooked awesome meals and the guide Al was incredibly knowledgeable. Overall the staff and the rest of the folks who skied that week were really good as well. Overall well worth the trip and going back again next year!

The best Lodge and Touring!

Fantastic experience, great hosts and guides. Wonderful food! Food was a highlight! Weather cooperated and we had four days of perfect conditions! Heli bump! The best lodge and touring experience ever!

Memorable ski touring experience with Purcell Mountain Lodge
Fangkai Y (December 2023, source: Tripadvisor)

We just finished a five night six day ski touring trip based with the famed Purcell mountain lodge. We experienced stunning mountain vista, deepest and steepest ski runs in the legendary Purcell mountain Champagne powder, including summitting Copperstain mountain, led by ACMG certified mountain guide Brent, and ended our days by hot shower, sauna and indulging in the exquisite 3 course dinners prepared by chef Andrey. Our lodge host Christophe made sure the activities were seamlessly connected and as smooth as possible. Everyday is filled with fun, challenge, achievements and laughter.

It doesn’t get any better?
Erik (March 2023, source: Tripadvisor)

Our stay at PML was nothing short of spectacular. This was our second stay, and it was equally as amazing as our first. The food was great. The conditions were amazing. The company was superb. From start to finish we loved every second of the stay. While internet was offered, my wife and I really enjoyed disconnecting, and would highly recommend that other people do the same. Extended time away from internet is so rare these days, and in this screen obsessed day and age, it was really nice to sever the tech umbilical chord and just exist in the splendor that is PML and it’s surrounding space. So many thanks to our amazing guides and the wonderful staff at PML, it is obvious that they all care so much, and work so exceptionally hard to create an amazing experience.

A MUST experience to do at least once in your life!!!

We just loved our stay at Purcell!!! Ski was amazing, great mellow terrain with also bowls full of powder. Also, the food was delicious every single meals!! Our guide Simon was also a big part of our experience being the best one!

Exceptional place and skiing, a once-in-a-lifetime bucket list item for me
JF (April 2023, source: Tripadvisor)

This is truly a five star experience and a very well run operation. Staff are professional and very helpful. Jackie was great to interact with throughout the whole booking process and answered all of my questions. Food is exceptional and actually incredible for a place as remote as this. The chef went beyond just avoiding certain foods for my complicated diet and prepared exceptionally delicious and healthy meals. The ski guide (Al) also went above and beyond and carefully selected terrain and planned our days based on our profile, fitness level, and risk tolerance. The scenery is fantastic, and there is a wide variety of terrain in the area. From nice and easy meadows around the hut to steeper terrain within reasonable ski touring distance. This was my first time backcountry skiing at a lodge. Being used to lower budget hut-based ski trips with only basic amenities if any, having a shower, electricity, and fully catered experience with no dishes to take care of, made this a very special experience. Heck, just the flight in was worth the trip. Would love to go back in the summer one day!

      • Alcoholic beverages (cash bar will be available)
      • Guide & staff gratuities — 15-20% is customary, split equally between guides and staff
      • Travel and medical/rescue insurance — highly recommended
  • The best thing about heli-accessed ski touring from the Purcell Mountain Lodge is that there are incredible options for all skill levels. That said, you need to have a very good level of fitness and you need to be an experienced resort skier. Previous backcountry skiing experience is preferable, but it is not mandatory. At breakfast time guides will talk about a few guided options for the day. Choices range from gentle to more challenging runs. Your day can be as leisurely or challenging as you wish. Guided guests wanting to explore the terrain on their own must discuss with the lead guide. Additionally, all participants will participate in an avalanche safety orientation before heading out on their first tour. If you are a beginner in the backcountry, your guide will teach you some basic skills which are sufficient for easier runs. You’ll be able to discuss your plans and preferences/abilities with your guide prior to the start of the tour.

  • For technical backcountry ski and safety equipment, you will need to bring:

      • Touring skis or splitboards or snowshoes
      • Climbing skins
      • Touring boots and poles

      • Blanket or a lightweight sleeping bag
      • Slippers

  • You can rent avalanche safety gear from your guide during the booking process. When it comes to ski touring equipment, you can easily avoid bringing your own by renting it in Calgary or olden. Make sure to double check everything is working properly prior to leaving the rental location.

  • Group sizes and pricing

      • For these group adventures, the minimum client-to-guide ratio is 4:1, while the maximum ratio is 6:1.
      • It takes a minimum of 8 people for the weekend tour to operate and 12 people for the weekday tour to operate.
      • The maximum number of participants for both tours is 16.

Heli-accessed ski touring from the Purcell Mountain Lodge in British Columbia can be arranged for private groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

    Min. age requirements

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the tour on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

  • To get to the town of Golden, which is the starting point of your adventure, most people fly into Calgary International Airport. From there, it’s a three-hour drive to the town of Golden.

The meeting point is the Alpine Helicopters Base (204 Fisher Road Golden, B.C. V0A 1H0), where you are expected to arrive around 8am for a helicopter flight to your lodge. Our Stager & Expediter will greet you at the hangar on departure day. Arriving on time allows for time to weigh baggage, read and fill out and sign the release of liability waiver, and receive a helicopter safety talk.

We recommend arriving in Golden a day prior to the tour to ensure you start the adventure fully rested and prepared!

  • We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with both emergency medical and travel insurance.

With medical insurance, if you have an accident or medical emergency on or off the mountain, you’ll avoid paying out of pocket for costly expenses. This covers everything from hospital treatments to emergency air transportation and more. Travel insurance covers canceled flights, natural disasters and other scenarios that may interrupt your travel plans.

We also expect you to respect local regulations and take measures to protect yourselves, your guides, and the communities you’re traveling to.

If you need assistance selecting the right insurance for your group, let us know and we will be happy to help!
