The trail starts where the road ends, high in the Pyrenees, with a light pack on your back and a few days of wild terrain ahead. This self-guided hiking holiday takes you deep into Aigüestortes National Park, where granite peaks, quiet valleys, and chains of alpine lakes shape every step. You’ll move hut to hut, sleeping high in the mountains and settling into the rhythm of the trail from day one. Along the way, you’ll cross passes like Ratera, walk past lakes such as Estany Llong and the Colomers basin, and move through one of the Pyrenees’ most iconic high-mountain landscapes. It all builds into a stretch of hiking that feels wild, immersive, and seriously worth showing up for.

Accommodation and full board are arranged in mountain refuges, so you carry only the essentials. It’s a straightforward setup: solid days on the trail, good food at the huts, and a route that keeps delivering from start to finish.

Day 1: Arrival and hike to Estany Llong
Mountain lake in Pyrenees

You arrive and enter Aigüestortes National Park, starting with a short and easy approach to your first hut, Estany Llong. If you have extra time, you can continue a few minutes further to reach the beautiful Lake Llong.

Hikers in a hut in the Pyrenees

You make your way toward the alpine part of Espot from the northern side, heading to Amitges hut. The trail climbs steadily, with one main pass at 2,427 m (7,963 ft). It’s a longer day on the trail, but the views and terrain make it well worth the effort.

From Amitges, you continue toward the Ratera pass at around 2,500 m (8,202 ft). You can make an optional stop at Saboredo hut for a break before continuing to Colomers. This is a full day in the high mountains, with varied terrain and changing scenery.

Day 4: Colomers to Ventosa i Calvell
