57Hours is thrilled to announce a new partnership with First Descents, facilitating discounted access to guided adventures to all First Descents community members. Through our platform, which connects individuals with certified guides for outdoor adventures, we strive to provide a service that makes it easy for everyone to take advantage of the outdoors. Perica Levatić, our co-founder, had this to say: “We are excited to partner with First Descents, an incredible organization that provides life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions. It’s through partnerships like this that we’re really able to fulfill the mission of 57hours.”
Prescribe Adventure
This partnership stems from the mission of both companies to make outdoor recreation accessible to all, and the belief that adventuring in nature helps people become stronger, healthier and happier. “We strongly believe in the mission of First Descents and are proud to be a part of facilitating adventure-based healing for people who have already overcome so much,” says Levatić. “This is just the beginning of our commitment to this organization and we look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Out Living It
First Descents has developed programs to empower these young adults through unforgettable outdoor adventures and peer-to-peer community building. As part of their Out Living It Project, First Descents alumni will have exclusive discounted access to peak adventure experiences through 57Hours. First Descents’ Director of Programs, Mackenzie McGrath, says, “Partnering with 57Hours makes it easier than ever to help our community continue Out Living It. Together, we are connecting the FD family with vetted outfitters and enabling them to take their adventure lifestyle to the next level.”
About First Descents
First Descents (FD) provides life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults (ages 18 to 39) impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions. In recent decades, there has been a growing effort to establish a new field of study: Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (AYAO). FD was early to recognize a gap in psychosocial support services and, in response, has developed clinically effective programs that empower young adults with cancer through unforgettable outdoor adventures and peer-to-peer community building.
During its 20 year history, First Descents has served nearly 10,000 AYAO survivors at over 1,000 programs, and established 27 local adventure communities nationwide to provide ongoing psychosocial supportive care. Over the next three years, FD will provide more than 5,000 experiences across 500 adventure programs. All services are fully-adaptive and free of charge. Recognized for its commitment to operational excellence and overall impact, FD is a Guidestar Platinum-ranked nonprofit and was honored as a CNN Hero in 2016. Our Mission at 57hours
57hours aspires to benefit everyone involved — guides, clients, local communities, and our environment — and promote safe, accessible outdoor recreation for all. Through our platform, we enable a passionate community of independent mountain guides to share their amazing itineraries, fill up their trips quickly, build up their client base faster and make guiding a successful and sustainable career. Now, with our First Descents partnership, we’re able to help FD community members continue their outdoor adventure pursuits, living a lifestyle that promotes health, well-being and recovery. That’s a big win in our books.
