We come to Panama when we need a reset that actually works. This 9-day all-women wellness retreat blends jungle, ocean, and just the right amount of movement, from kayaking and snorkeling to yoga on a dock floating above Caribbean blues. We settle into a remote eco-lodge where life slows down, meals are fresh and local, and the hardest decision is whether to paddle, hike, or nap in a hammock. It’s equal parts adventure and exhale, made for women who want to move a little, laugh a lot, and head home feeling lighter: reconnected, recharged, and fully back in their own power.

The adventure, day by day

This all-women wellness retreat in Panama is a 9-day escape designed to balance movement, nature, and true downtime. We start in Panama City before heading to the Bocas del Toro archipelago, where a remote eco-lodge becomes our base for exploration and rest. Days flow between kayaking, snorkeling, jungle hikes, yoga sessions, and moments to simply slow down. With internal flights, meals, activities, and logistics all arranged, we can focus on being present, enjoying the surroundings, and making the most of this tropical reset—together.

Day 1: Welcome to Panama
Panama city tour

Upon arrival in Panama City, you’ll meet the guides at Tocumen International Airport before being transferred to the hotel. In the evening, we gather for our first group meeting and get to know each other over a welcome dinner. It’s an easy start that sets the tone for the days ahead.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Radisson Hotel Panama Canal (or similar)

Day 2: Up the river to the Emberá
Panama native woman

We travel upriver by dugout canoe into the rainforest for a meaningful visit with an Emberá village. Welcomed as guests, we spend time learning through stories, music, food, and art, gaining insight into a way of life closely tied to nature and tradition. It’s a powerful cultural exchange and one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Radisson Hotel Panama Canal (or similar)
Activities: Canoeing

Day 3: From canal to Caribbean
Boat monkey in Panama

We start early with a unique paddle along the Panama Canal before catching a domestic flight to Bocas del Toro, where the Caribbean side of Panama shows a completely different face. From there, a water taxi takes us to our home for the next few days, a remote eco-lodge tucked between jungle and sea. After settling in and enjoying a fresh, locally sourced lunch, we ease into island life with time to swim, relax, or explore the surrounding trails. By evening, we gather for a chef-prepared dinner that sets the tone for the days ahead.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Casa Cayuco (or similar)

Day 4: Yoga, reefs, and island time
Coconut drinking in Panama

We start the day slow with a restorative yoga session on the dock, easing into the rhythm of island life with the Caribbean stretched out in front of us. After breakfast, we hop on a boat to Isla Zapatillas, where clear water, sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs set the scene for a memorable snorkeling experience. Back at the lodge, the afternoon is wide open for swimming, paddling, or simply doing nothing at all. Somewhere between smoothies, snacks, and sea time, you might even sneak in your included massage.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Casa Cayuco (or similar)
Activities: Yoga, snorkeling

Day 5: Jungle trails and beach time
Beach shell in Panama

We spend the morning exploring the Pelicano Trail, starting with a walk through Salt Creek, a local village connected to the lodge, before heading into the rainforest with our guide. The trail takes us over a hill and down to Los Pelicanos beach, where we can cool off with a swim before looping back to Casa Cayuco. After lunch, we head back to the water for a relaxed paddling session, choosing between kayaks and paddleboards right in front of the lodge.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Casa Cayuco (or similar)
Activities: Hiking, water activities

Day 6: Mangroves and pampering
Face wellness in panama

We head out for a different kind of snorkeling today, exploring a mangrove ecosystem just a short boat ride from the lodge. Beneath the surface, we find a colorful underwater world of soft corals, sponges, and marine life, with chances to spot everything from starfish to octopus. Back at the lodge, the evening slows down with a hands-on workshop where we create our own organic facial scrubs using local ingredients, a simple and fun way to unwind after an active day.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Casa Cayuco (or similar)
Activities: Snorkeling, face scrub class

Day 7: Your day, your kind of adventure
Jungle tour in Panama

We start the day with another yoga session on the dock, easing into the morning with the Caribbean as our backdrop. After breakfast, the day opens up. You can relax at the lodge, snorkel right out front, or join an optional guided trip to the bat caves for a more adventurous underground experience. In the afternoon, we come back together for a cacao ceremony, learning about chocolate from bean to bar and enjoying a hands-on, multi-sensory experience. We wrap up the day with a shared dinner and one last evening in our island home.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Casa Cayuco (or similar)
Activities: Yoga, optional bat cave tour, cacao ceremony

Day 8: Back to the city
Posing in panama City

We soak in one last morning at the lodge with time for yoga, a swim, or a relaxed start by the water. After lunch, we say goodbye to island life and make our way back by boat and flight to Panama City. In the evening, we come together for a farewell dinner, sharing stories and celebrating the week before heading home.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Bristol Hotel (or similar)
Activities: Yoga, snorkeling and/or beach activities

Day 9: Departure
Goodbye Panama

We enjoy a final slow morning before heading to the airport. A group shuttle departs at 9:30 am, and you can plan your flight anytime after 12 pm. It’s a smooth send-off after a full and memorable week.

Alicia resides in Colorado, where she relishes the opportunity to ride her bike every day! She also enjoys hiking, backpacking, trail running, and snowshoeing, often accompanied by her family and dog (who famously proved that she is truly part border collie when she spontaneously herded 100+ head of cattle in Boulder open space!). Alicia has a well-rounded adventure background and a great appreciation for the friendships that can be forged among adventurous women, across different backgrounds and different generations. When not guiding, Alicia works in academia as a SAS programmer and data analyst.

Carrie
Carrie has lived in Saranac Lake, NY in the Adirondack Mountains for 34 years. Her first guiding experience was when she was 20, a job that entailed taking US students to the USSR and Siberia. Her love of the outdoors comes from her parents. They taught her many outdoors skills and showed her how to hike, ski, row, sail and fish from an early age; in fact, the first peak she climbed was Camels Hump in Vermont at the age of 6! These days she is an avid downhill, cross-country and backcountry skier and is a licensed guide for whitewater rafting, hiking, camping and paddling.

The peacefulness and beauty of Casa Cayuco. I enjoyed spending time with the fun, vibrant ladies on this trip. I like the ability to choose activities at my own pace. The Casa Cayuco staff were friendly and the food was absolutely great.

Learning about the indigenous communities from our very knowledgeable guides. The selection of lodging, for me, personified the three huge cultural influences (building of the Panama Canal, the indigenous tribes, the new wealth of Panama) that make Panama the country it is today.
