Hiking Day Tour in Landmannalaugar, Iceland

Landmannalaugar is Iceland’s showstopper—a kaleidoscope of colors wrapped in amazing highland views. We’re talking lava fields that look like another planet, a multicolored mountain that deserves its own art exhibit, and a gorge that’s green enough to make the Emerald City jealous. Every step on this hiking day trip takes us deeper into Iceland’s raw, untamed beauty. We’ll cover some serious terrain, from peaks to valleys, and soak in every grin-worthy view along the way. And when the trail’s done? There’s a geothermal soak waiting to remind us that life’s best moments are the ones where we just let go.

Itinerary

Landmannalaugar isn’t just a hike—it’s nature’s way of showing off. We’ll hike through 8-10 km (5-6 miles) of jaw-dropping Icelandic highlands, kicking things off at the Laugahraun lava field—a dramatic black landscape frozen in time. From there, we’ll tackle Vondugil Canyon, where colors collide, and ascend Mt. Brennisteinsalda, the most photogenic mountain around. But wait, there’s more! Our descent into Graenagil Gorge, with its vivid green rhyolite walls, feels like stepping into another world. And just when you think it can’t get better, we’ll cap it all off with a soak in a natural hot pool. It’s Iceland at its best—wild, colorful, and totally unforgettable.

Incredible tour company! We had ample time to explore all the sites while still fitting in a lot during the day! All of our guides made us feel safe despite Iceland’s famously unpredictable weather. Highly recommended!

This was my second tour and I would book with them again. Great vehicles, friendly and knowledgable local guides, tours are conducted as advertised. When guests come to visit me, I will take them on an Arctic Adventures tour. Highly recommended for solo, couple, and small group travel. If you don”t have the gear, you can rent it from them at a low cost. Excellent customer service- they will answer any questions you have. Highly recommended.

We are so glad we signed up for this tour. Our guide, Sara, was warm – funny – friendly, and very knowledgeable. The company website was very transparent about what to expect and how to determine if this was the right tour for customers. We received reminders about what to expect and what to bring with us by email. Company communication was very good. The other guides we observed and interacted with were also very enthusiastic and helpful to any customer, no matter which group they were in. We stayed safe and dry, and were able to see an incredible part of the planet!
