On this Pirin mountains skiing tour, we’ll treat ourselves to tasty local meals for 4 days. Bulgarian breakfasts are a celebration of simplicity and local flavors. A typical morning might start with banitsa, a golden, flaky pastry filled with eggs, cheese, or spinach, often enjoyed with a side of ayran, a refreshing yogurt drink. Another popular choice is mekitsa, deep-fried dough, similar to a donut, served warm with powdered sugar, honey, or jam.
Yogurt or kiselo mlyako, a staple in Bulgarian cuisine, often makes an appearance with fresh fruit, oats, or honey. Simple, hearty, and comforting, Bulgarian breakfasts showcase local ingredients and age-old recipes that bring a cozy start to the day.
Bulgarian dinners often include classics such as moussaka, a comforting casserole layered with potatoes, minced meat, and eggs, or kavarma, a slow-cooked stew of pork or chicken with onions, peppers, and tomatoes. Often, the table also features shopska salad, a mix of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and a generous sprinkle of sirene cheese, which pairs perfectly with the warm main courses.
I took part in the Splitboard Intro course last weekend organized by Split The Mountain team. I am super fascinated with the team and their professionalism, attentive support, to-the-point techniques, focus on safety and love for the mountain and people. Their services are high value for money and I would recommend them to everyone that either want to start or already are practicing splitboarding, free-riding, ski-touring and backcountry, and anything else in the mountains. Thank you wholeheartedly, Nikya, Vanya and Pavka.
