Patagonia Ski Touring: Frey Hut & Beyond

This is a pilgrimage, and the Frey Hut is our holy land. The sermons? Deep turns. The hymns? The swoosh of fresh snow under our skis. Our cathedral? The Catedral Ski Resort, where we’ll shake off the rust on-piste, then push into the backcountry, carving lines through Patagonia’s most dramatic terrain. With three nights at Frey, we’ll have time to explore the Andes’ legendary granite spires, hit steep couloirs, and chase the best snow. Every day, it’s skin up, send it down, and repeat. And yes, all meals are included. By the time we ski out, you’ll be a believer.

Itinerary

Some ski trips are about the turns. Others are about the journey. This one? It’s both. We’ll start at Catedral Ski Resort, then venture deep into the Patagonian backcountry, where jagged spires and untouched snow create a skier’s paradise. Three nights at Frey Hut mean prime access to some of the best ski terrain in South America—steep chutes, wide-open bowls, and deep powder stashes. With expert guides, top-tier terrain, and an experience that’s as rewarding as the skiing itself, this is the ultimate winter escape for those who love earning their turns.

  • Day 1 begins at Catedral Ski Resort, and we’ll use its slopes to warm up. After a few runs on and off-piste, we’ll ascend to the ridge and venture into the backcountry, skiing down into the Van Titter Valley. A long descent through the valley leads us to a climb up to Frey Hut, our cozy mountain lodge where we’ll spend the next three nights.

For those who haven’t skied in a while and need more time to readapt, the guides can dedicate the entire first day to the resort. This allows for a gradual progression from on-piste to off-piste, and then to the side-country, focusing on improving downhill and uphill techniques while testing gear. Only in this case, the traverse to Frey Hut will be postponed to Day 2.
