  • To participate in this Costa Vicentina guided hiking trip in Portugal, a good level of fitness is required. You’ll be hiking two days in a row, covering considerable distances—13 and 9.3 miles (21 and 15 km)—while carrying a daypack. The routes entail occasional steep ascents and descents. The sandy terrain can pose a challenge, as well as the coastal area’s characteristic windy weather. Trail difficulty ranges from leisurely coastal walks to more demanding routes with significant elevation changes.

    Having some prior hiking experience, ideally including full-day hikes in somewhat hilly terrain, is recommended. To prepare, engaging in cardiovascular exercises and strength training in the weeks leading up to the trip is advised. Occasional weekend hikes can also help in readiness. Rest assured, our guide will accompany you every step of the way, providing support, ensuring safety, and adjusting the pace to suit the group’s overall fitness level.

  • Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:

      • Daypack large enough to carry all the items you might need in a day (around a 25L bag)
      • Hiking poles — optional
      • Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
      • Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
      • Hiking T-shirts
      • Hiking shorts
      • Lightweight waterproof hiking pants
      • Lightweight waterproof hiking jacket
      • Basic first aid kit with essentials like bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and any personal medications
      • Sunhat
      • Casual clothes to wear when you’re not hiking
      • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, etc.)
      • Flashlight
      • Sunglasses
      • Hiking snacks such as nuts and energy bars
      • Camera — optional (but recommended)

    Bring comfortable clothing that you can move in. During spring, the weather is mild with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F), occasional light rain. You’ll likely see a mix of sunny and partly cloudy days with relatively low rainfall. However, you have to be prepared for rainy and windy weather. We suggest checking the weather forecast before the start of the adventure and packing accordingly.

  • Group sizes and prices:

      • For this group adventure, the maximum client-to-guide ratio is 12:1.
      • It takes a minimum of 6 people for this tour to operate.
      • The cost does not decrease as the group grows.

    Hiking along Costa Vicentina can be arranged for larger and private groups. Contact us to make arrangements.

    Min. age requirements:

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

  • To get to Porto Covo, most people fly into Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), which is 2 hours away (by car). From there, we suggest you get to Lisbon’s Sete Rios Bus Station and catch a Rede Expressos bus. The journey will take you between 3 and 3.5 hours. You can also rent a car if you prefer that option.

    Once you and our guide agree on the details of your itinerary, they will suggest the best time (depending on your arrival time) and place to meet, usually a predetermined location in Porto Covo.

  • Personal accident and civil liability insurance are included in the price of this guided hiking tour along Costa Vicentina. This insurance provides coverage in case of accidents or medical emergencies, both on and off the trails, ensuring that you won’t incur unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. This coverage encompasses a range of situations, from hospital treatments to emergency transportation and more.

    Additionally, we recommend that you also arrange travel insurance. Travel insurance serves as a safeguard against potential issues such as canceled flights and natural disasters, which could disrupt your travel plans.

    We also expect you to respect local regulations and take measures to protect yourselves, your guides, and the communities you’re traveling to.

  • A 30% deposit to secure your place is due upon booking. The remaining amount is paid 3 months (90 days) prior to departure. Once the trip is confirmed by the guide, the cancellation policy stated below applies.

      • If Client cancels the Booking anytime prior to one hundred twenty (120) calendar days in advance of the trip contemplated by the booking, Client is entitled to a full refund.
      • For cancellations ninety (90) to one hundred nineteen (119) calendar days in advance, Client is entitled to a refund in the amount of fifty percent (50%) of the total amount paid when Booking.
      • For cancellations seventy-five (75) to eighty nine (89) calendar days in advance, Client is entitled to a refund in the amount of twenty-five percent (25%) of the total amount paid when Booking.
      • After that deadline, Client is not entitled to any refund. Any reimbursable expenses arising out of the Booking incurred by Guide prior to the date of cancellation (including but not limited to plane tickets, car rental payments, and lodging or transportation fees) are non-refundable as soon as they are incurred by the Guide.
