You will get picked up in Reykjavik at around 8:00, and you’ll drive to the Sólheimajökull parking lot. You will meet your guide there and they will fit you with crampons, an ice axe, a helmet, and a harness, and runs through a full safety briefing before anyone sets foot on the ice. From there, we hike out across the glacier for about three hours, winding through a landscape of crevasses, ice ridges, and moulins with streaks of deep blue ice throughout. Partway through, we stop at a section of ice wall, where your guide teaches proper ice-axe and crampon technique before you climb it yourself, roped in and coached the whole way. We’re back at the parking lot roughly five and a half hours after starting, and then it’s back to Reykjavik with additional Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss waterfalls stops.
