Cancellation policy

The percentages in the table above are of the full trip price, not of what you’ve paid at the time of booking.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking receive a full refund on all plans, including booking fees and insurance. After the 48-hour window, your refund depends on your selected protection plan and when you cancel. Core and Premium plans extend your cancellation rights beyond the Standard policy:

  • With Core, a covered reason gets you 75% of your trip cost back — even the day before you go.
  • With Premium, a covered reason gets you 100% of your trip cost back — and any other reason gets you 75%, right up to the day you leave.
What counts as a covered reason
  • Sudden illness or injury — yours, a travel companion’s, or an immediate family member’s, confirmed by a doctor
  • Death of a traveler or an immediate family member
  • A natural disaster affecting your destination or your departure point
  • A government travel advisory against travel to your destination

Changing your mind isn’t a covered reason. Premium is the only plan that covers that. Documentation is required for all insurance claims.

Everything the travel insurance covers

Both plans include travel insurance through Redpoint Travel Protection. Core insures 75% of your trip cost; Premium insures 100%.

Maximum per person:

  • Trip cancellation — up to 100% of your trip cost
  • Cancel for any reason — up to 75% of your trip cost (Premium only)
  • Trip interruption — 150% of the trip cost limit
  • Trip delay — $200 a day, $1,000 max
  • Itinerary change — $250
  • Single occupancy supplement — up to 100% of trip cost
  • Missed connection — $1,000
  • Travel inconvenience — $250 each, $750 max
  • Pet return — $1,000 per pet
  • Baggage and personal effects — $2,500, max $300 an item
  • Baggage delay — $600, after 12 hours
  • Baggage delivery — $100 per trip
  • Emergency medical expenses — $100,000
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation — up to $1,000,000

These are maximums. What a claim actually pays depends on what you can document and on the policy’s exclusions — pre-existing conditions and undeclared activities among them. We’ll send the full policy wording with your confirmation.

  • Eight days and seven nights with five days of guided hiking, from the high peaks of Jotunheimen National Park to the fjords of western Norway. We cross the park on foot, staying in traditional mountain huts, while our bags travel ahead by boat and vehicle. After the Besseggen Ridge, lake valleys, and alpine passes, we move to Aurland for two nights by the fjord, then take a Nærøyfjord cruise and train ride to finish in Bergen. All meals from lunch on Day 1 through the final breakfast are included, along with luggage transfers and all internal transport.

    • Meet your guides and the rest of the group at the Thon Opera Hotel in Oslo for a proper orientation, then walk over to the bus station together. From there it’s a comfortable 4-5 hour coach ride to Jotunheimen National Park, with deluxe seating, Wi-Fi, and a break halfway. Once we’ve settled into our hut in Gjendesheim, there’s time for a short leg-stretching walk before a 3-course dinner. Jotunheimen means “home of the giants,” and tomorrow you’ll see why.

      Meals: Lunch, dinner
      Accommodation: Mountain hut in Gjendesheim

    • After breakfast we build our own Matpakke lunches, the traditional Norwegian way, then drop our bags at the dock so they travel to tonight’s hut by boat. Today we walk the Besseggen Ridge, probably the most famous trail in Norway and a rite of passage for anyone who hikes here. The ridge runs high above Bessvatnet and Gjende, two lakes with wildly different colors, and the views out over the mountains are the reward for a big day. A few steep, rocky sections call for some scrambling, with chains in place for extra security. We collect our luggage at the dock in Memurubu, then sit down to a well-earned dinner.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Distance: 13.5 km (8.4 mi)
      Elevation: +1,020 m (+3,346 ft) / -1,020 m (-3,346 ft)
      Accommodation: Mountain hut in Memurubu

    • Bags go down to the docks again, and then we climb onto the high mountain plateau above Gjende. Up top the views open right out, with small mountain lakes scattered across the rock and a decent chance of spotting reindeer herds. We stop for lunch beside one of those lakes before starting the drop back down to the water. The descent is steep, with chains to help us through the trickiest part, and it ends at Gjendebu hut, where a hot shower and a traditional Norwegian dinner are waiting for tired legs.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Distance: 10 km (6.2 mi)
      Elevation: +760 m (+2,493 ft) / -760 m (-2,493 ft)

    • A big breakfast buffet sets us up, then we drop our bags at the dock so they can travel ahead to tonight’s hut. They often arrive before we do, so pack a few extras in your daypack if you want fresh clothes waiting for you. Today’s pace is gentler than the last two, though the scenery doesn’t let up. We climb out of the Gjende Lake valley, cross a mountain pass with wide views over lakes and rolling summits, then drop into another broad valley where Bygdin Lake takes over the horizon. Tonight’s hut, Fondsbu, is a Norwegian institution, and its host is famous for her warmth and her singing. With luck, we’ll hear a mountain song before dinner.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Distance: 16 km (10 mi), 5 hours
      Elevation: +500 m (+1,640 ft) / -500 m (-1,640 ft)
      Accommodation: Fondsbu

      Sunny summer day Bygdin
    • Our last day of hiking in Jotunheimen takes us right between two of Norway’s best-known peaks, Uranostind and Falketind. Walking beneath them, we pass alpine lake after alpine lake, and we stop at one of the bigger ones for a picnic lunch with a view that’s hard to beat. From there we descend to meet our driver and vehicle. The drive is every bit as scenic as the walk, carrying us out of the high mountains and down toward the water. Our home for the next two nights is the small town of Aurland, where dinner tonight is served right at the fjord’s edge. A fitting reward.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Distance: 13 km (8 mi), 4 hours
      Elevation: +500 m (+1,640 ft) / -500 m (-1,640 ft)
      Accommodation: Lodge in Aurland

    • After breakfast we shuttle to today’s trailhead, stopping along the way at the Borgund Stave Church, one of Norway’s national heritage sites and more than 800 years old. It’s a good chance to stretch the legs and get a feel for the country’s past. From there we leave the mountains behind and enter fjord country, those long, narrow arms of ocean walled in by cliffs, carved out by glaciers and later flooded by the sea. Our hike climbs to the summit of Prest Mountain, where the fjord and Aurland sit far below us. Back down in the evening, we try a fjordsauna at Aurland harbour before another good dinner by the water.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Distance: 6 km (3.7 mi), 2-3 hours
      Elevation: +550 m (+1,805 ft) / -550 m (-1,805 ft)
      Accommodation: Lodge in Aurland

    • Our last day of exploring points us toward one of Norway’s great natural wonders, Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We board a zero-emission boat for a 2.5-hour cruise through the narrow sea inlets, with sheer cliffs rising on both sides the whole way. Back on land, we head to Flåm for a relaxed lunch before catching the train up to Myrdal. From there, a scenic 2-hour ride carries us to our final stop, the coastal town of Bergen. Tonight is for celebrating, so we raise a glass over a farewell dinner in Bryggen, Bergen’s liveliest old quarter.

      Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
      Boat: 2.5 hours
      Train: 3 hours
      Accommodation: Lodge in Bergen

    • One more breakfast together, and then it’s time to say goodbye. A shuttle is arranged for anyone needing a lift to the airport for morning flights, a short 20-minute ride. Looking back on eight days of big ridges, quiet lakes, mountain huts, and fjords, you’ll leave with plenty to talk about. Many guests choose to tack on a few extra nights in Bergen to wander the city and its surroundings before moving on.

      Meals: Breakfast
Transfer: 20 minutes to the airport

Please note that occasionally, the itinerary needs adjusting—usually due to logistics like fully booked accommodations, trail closures, or bad weather. Any changes are always made with your safety and comfort in mind.

    • In order to join this Jotunheimen hut-to-hut trek, great fitness is required as well as experience hiking in rugged mountain terrain. The most you’ll hike within a day is up to 16 km (9.9 mi), with up to 1,020 m (3,346 ft) of elevation gain.

Distance and elevation don’t tell the whole story here. Trails in Jotunheimen are rough and rocky, with loose stones, steep sections, and some scrambling (chains help on the Besseggen Ridge and the descent to Gjendebu). The weather can change quickly, too. Even in August, temperatures can drop from 15°C (59°F) to 5°C (41°F), and rain and wind make the going harder. The good news is that your luggage is transferred every day, so you’ll only carry a daypack.

    • This is a “nothing to carry” trek, so on hiking days you’ll only need a daypack with your packed lunch, water, and daily essentials. Your main luggage is waiting for you at the accommodation every evening.

In Jotunheimen, bags travel between huts by boat across the lakes. Each morning, we bring our bags down to the dock, and in the evening we pick them up at the next hut’s dock and carry them to our rooms. Your bag may get to the next hut before you do, so it’s a good idea to keep a few spare items in your daypack. From Day 5 on, luggage travels with us by vehicle, train, and boat to Aurland and Bergen.

Each guest can bring one bag of up to 20 kg (44 lb). A rucksack, a travel bag in good condition, or a compact suitcase all work.

    • Group sizes and pricing:

        • For this Jotunheimen hut-to-hut trek, the usual client-to-guide ratio is 8:1. Groups of 4 to 8 participants are led by one certified mountain guide, while groups of 9 to 13 participants are led by two.
        • It takes a minimum of 4 people for this tour to operate. The maximum group size is set at 13 participants.
        • Trekking can be arranged for larger groups, contact us to make arrangements.

      Min. age requirements:

        • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
        • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the Jotunheimen hut-to-hut trek on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.
        • If your group has participants under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.
    • The price for this Jotunheimen hut-to-hut trek is based on twin-share rooms, but a single occupancy room can be arranged at an additional fee for the 3 nights in Aurland and Bergen, subject to availability. You can add it to your booking at checkout.

Single rooms are not available in the mountain huts (nights 1–4), which have double or shared rooms, often with bunk beds and shared bathrooms.

    • The starting point of your Jotunheimen hut-to-hut trek is Oslo. To get there, most people fly into Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (OSL). From there, you can take the airport train, a shuttle service, or public transport to the city center. The trek ends in Bergen, and a transfer to Bergen Airport, Flesland (BGO) is included on Day 8.

You will meet your guide on Day 1 at the Thon Opera Hotel in Oslo. Around two weeks before departure, you’ll receive the exact meeting time, your guide’s contact details, and the address of the first accommodation.

    • We highly recommend that you cover all your bases with insurance. To make your booking and traveling experience as carefree as possible, you’ll be offered to simply insure your trip with Redpoint at checkout.

Redpoint—the official 57hours insurance partner—tailors protection packages for adventure travel, offering a comprehensive travel program, even in remote locations!
