Start your Cinque Terre hiking tour in Riomaggiore. There you’ll meet your guide, who will show you your accommodation for the week. Spend the rest of the day discovering this picturesque village. Take a walk through the colorful streets, go for a swim in the azure sea, and soak up the local atmosphere. Wrap up the day with dinner provided in a local restaurant.
-
Start off the day with a boat ride to Porto Venere, a scenic village with an imposing fortress facing out to the sea. In case the boat ride is not possible, you’ll take a train or a bus. Go on a hillside walk to find more panoramic views of the coastline. Walk back to Riomaggiore and freely explore the village.

To fully participate you should be able to walk for up to 5 hours a day. Most days you’ll have a choice of mileage options, so you can decide how active you want to be—it’s always up to you. Keep in mind, the weather in summer can be very hot.
Be prepared to walk! These towns are pedestrian-friendly only. Not only are there virtually no options for assisted transportation, but the towns themselves are hilly, so it’s common to encounter stairs—sometimes very long ones. It is suggested that you undertake regular exercise two to three times a week for three months prior to your departure.

Here’s a list of the equipment you need to bring:
-
- Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 25-40L bag)
- Hiking poles — optional
- Water bottle or hydration bladder (2L capacity)
- Lightweight hiking boots or shoes
- Spare clothes for layering
- Waterproof rain jacket
- Sunhat
- Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
- Headlamp or flashlight
- Sunglasses
- Camera — optional (but recommended)
Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans. You will stay in the same village for the whole week, so you only need to carry a daypack with you for the walks.

We require all guides using our platform to have a COVID-19 safety plan and to make the details of that plan accessible to travelers. We also expect clients to respect local regulations and take measures to protect themselves, their guides, and the communities they’re traveling to.
