  • These Fuerteventura walking holidays are ideal for those wishing to find themselves surrounded by remote, surreal landscapes! Over 12 days, we’ll walk the full GR131, a 100-mile trek snaking its way from north to south of the island. We’ll sleep at the most charming accommodations available (this will be a mix of casas rurales, fincas, and hotels), and we’ll also organize all luggage transfers and day-to-day routes for you. As long as you’re ready to hike 20 km (12.5 miles) per day on average, on unpaved paths in rough landscapes, Fuerteventura and the GR131 should be your next destination.

    • To get to Corralejo, you can either fly into Fuerteventura Airport or Lanzarote Airport. If you fly to Fuerteventura, we’ll pick you up at the airport and take you to our accommodation for the night. If you fly into Lanzarote, you can take a bus to reach Playa Blanca in the far south, which is where you’ll board the ferry to Corralejo. We’ll wait for you at the port and take you to your accommodation.

Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

Vedute of Corralejo from the ocean.
    • We will leave by boat for the first leg of the walk to the island of Los Lobos. Once we reach the beautiful bay at Casas del Puertito, this is where our walk to the north will start. Following the trail, we will reach the northern cape of the island and the lighthouse’s viewing platform that offers stunning views of three islands: Lobos, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 8 km / 5 miles
      Elevation: +62 m (+204 ft) / -62 m (-204 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Hiker on island Lobos
    • Today we’ll start hiking southward and pass some volcanic craters. When we look back towards Corralejo from a height, we’ll get a beautiful view of Lanzarote and Lobos islands. We will then pass the village of Lajares and take a short break there. This first stage is fairly flat, but the sandy surface makes walking quite difficult. Our destination for today is La Oliva, a colonial town in Fuerteventura with interesting historical buildings. After arrival, we can relax at the accommodation or visit the town. There is a terrace and a small supermarket for any necessary refreshments.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 22 km / 13.7 miles
      Elevation: +423 m (+1,388 ft) / -205 m (-673 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Walking down road in Fuerteventura
    • After breakfast, we’ll set off for a relatively short stage towards Tefia. You’ll already have noticed the silence of the island, not meeting anyone, away from all the tourism, and being fully in harmony with nature. We’ll pass through the village of Tindaya, nestled at the foot of an almost 400-meter (1,310-foot) high volcano, which was sacred to the Old Canarians. Even now there are still many legends, but the mountain is protected and can only be visited to a limited extent. We’ll take a break in a local bar and continue our way south. We’ll spend the night in a rural accommodation, a peaceful and atmospheric lodging, where we’ll enjoy a fantastic sunset while having dinner.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 21 km / 13 miles
      Elevation: +230 m (+755 ft) / -242 m (-784 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Tindaya mountain, Fuerteventura
    • Today, we’ll start moving higher up! After Valle de Santa Inés, we’ll really go up steeply. At the top, a viewpoint of two giant statues awaits, the Estatuas de Guise y Ayose. These bronze, 4.5-meter (15-foot) tall statues depict the two Guanche kings, Guise and Ayose, rulers of Fuerteventura from the distant past. When we descend the Montaña Tegú on the other side, we will see white buildings of Betancuria in a lovely green valley. This beautiful place owes its name to the conquistador Béthencourt. We’ll then go to the oldest accommodation of this tour, which is full of history!

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 17 km / 10.5 miles
      Elevation: +493 m (+1617 ft) / -290 m (-951 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Guanche kings and hikers, Fuerteventura
    • Though there are quite a few big climbs ahead of us today, the views will be wonderful! Leaving Betancuria, we’ll immediately hike to the highest point of the day. We’ll pass through valleys where silence reigns, and the only sound we’ll be hearing is the chirp of the birds flying over the valleys. After a break, we continue our path to climb further. Once at the top, we’ll enjoy spectacular views over the Betancuria Mountains. After descending about 7 km (4.3 miles), we will reach our final destination for today: Pájara.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 18 km / 11.2 miles
      Elevation: +505 m (+1,657 ft) / -698 m (-2,290 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Panorama, Fuerteventura
    • Today is probably the toughest stage of the trip. Leaving Pájara behind, we’ll soon see mountains looming before us. This is the most beautiful area of Fuerteventura for many! You will feel one with nature here, and the silence is astounding. Breathtaking views to both coasts of the island await us as well. On a clear day, we can even see the peak of Mount Teíde on the neighboring island of Tenerife! After a last grueling climb, we gradually descend towards La Pared, today’s final destination. Here we’ll stay in a luxury hotel with a pool. For those who are not yet tired enough, there are sports facilities as well! There’s also a supermarket at the hotel, and you can also have dinner here.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 26.5 km / 16.5 miles
      Elevation: +683 m (+2,241 ft) / -846 m (-2,776 ft)
      Accommodation: Hotel

      Fuerteventura, taking a break
    • Immediately south of La Pared, the landscape changes strikingly. Leaving the mountains behind us, we now walk through a kind of rolling desert landscape. Compared to the past few days, this will be a pretty flat hiking day. At the narrowest part of the island, we will cross over to the east coast towards Costa Calma. This is a popular place for surfers because of the favorable wind that blows here all year round.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 14 km / 8.7 miles
      Elevation: +212 m (+696 ft) / -220 m (-722 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
    • After a week of everyday hiking, some relaxing and resting will do you good! Costa Palma is a cozy and not too big of a tourist resort. Those who’d like to soak up the sun can relax either by the pool or the sea. You can also go swimming and walk along the kilometer-long sandy beach. In the evening, there’s plenty of choices for restaurants and bars!

      Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

Flowers and sea on Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
    • For our last two days of the trek, we’ll mostly walk south along the beach. Today we’ll go to the beautiful Morro Jable, where we will spend the next two nights. Morro Jable still has the atmosphere of a former fishing village, but it has now merged with the very touristy Jandia next door. There’s plenty of things to do here, including shopping, touring souvenir shops, and sipping on cocktails on terraces. The promenade in the old Morro Jable is very atmospheric and a table right on the water can always be found with some luck and patience! We’ll stay in a nice accommodation with a swimming pool these two nights.

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 17.6 km / 10.9 miles
      Elevation: +139 m (+456 ft) / -123 m (-404 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel

      Beach in Morro Jable, Fuerteventura
    • For our last leg of the trek, we’ll take a trip to the very southern tip of Fuerteventura: the lighthouse on Punta de Jandia. There will be lots of ups and downs today, making the hike a bit more strenuous. You can see the lighthouse from afar, making it seem like you’re almost there, but looks can be deceiving. After finally reaching the endpoint and taking some photos, we’ll return to a small village to relax in a modest restaurant. We’ll get transferred back to Morro Jable over an endless unpaved road. It’d be nice to have a celebratory drink together to mark the end of our trip in the evening!

      Meals: Breakfast
      Hiking: 23 km / 14.3 miles
      Elevation: +267 m (+876 ft) / -259 m (-850 ft)
Accommodation: Casa rural, finca, or hotel
