Taste of Slovenia: E-Bike Gourmet Food Tour

Your gourmet e-biking holiday starts with an overnight stay in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana. After checking into your hotel, you can rent a city bike and explore the main attractions in the historical city center, follow the river banks, cross multiple city bridges, and relax in the green part of Ljubljana called the Tivoli park. Visit Ljubljana Castle and treat yourself to beautiful views of the city from the castle’s ramparts or Outlook Tower.

In the afternoon you will meet your guide and the rest of the guests in the hotel. During a welcome dinner with traditional Slovenian food, we will discuss all the details of our upcoming trip.

After breakfast, we’ll take a short transfer to Lake Bled, one of the country’s most famous sights. We’ll start with a warm-up ride around the lake where we’ll see stunning views of Bled Island with the Church and the medieval Bled Castle. After that, we’ll take a short break for coffee and the local specialty, Bled cream cake.

In the Triglav National Park we’ll have a ride through the scenic Radovna Valley, which is full of pristine pasturelands. Then, we’ll slowly descend to the village of Mojstrana, where we will have views of Mt. Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. One of the most picturesque trails in the Upper Sava Valley will take us to the famous Slovenian alpine resort Kranjska Gora. Later in the afternoon, we’ll explore this picturesque ski resort, and then we’re off to dinner.

The pleasant cycling trail from Kranjska Gora leads us across the Italian border to Laghi di Fusine (Fusine Lakes). We’ll bike to the Nordic center Planica, and then continue our journey towards the hut in the Tamar Valley, with a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks. We’ll stop at the hut and have a tasty lunch. Afterwards, we’ll take an enjoyable descent back to Kranjska Gora and the stunning Lake Jasna, surrounded by the Julian Alps. Later in the afternoon, we’ll take some time to relax.

After breakfast, we’ll be transferred over Vršič pass, and the scenic mountain road will take us into one of the few unspoiled river valleys in the world, Soča River Valley. Today, we will explore all the major natural sights around Bovec. The path leads us past the Boka waterfall and along the emerald Soča river. We’ll ride along the river banks, cross a few wooden suspension bridges, and spot kayakers paddling through the river’s rapids.

We’ll leave the Julian Alps behind and enter into the Mediterranean landscape in the Karst wine growing region. A family-owned tourist farm will be our home for the next two days. The owner will show us their 400-year-old cellar. Wine tasting and dried meat products will be a great start before dinner, with traditional Karst food and family recipes.

Today we’ll explore the Karst region, make a loop ride through picturesque small villages, and visit the stone medieval village of Štanjel. We’ll bike along the rugged countryside, vineyards, endless stone walls, and feel the history and culture of this region. We’ll meet the hospitable locals who produce culinary treasures of the region.

On the very edge of the Karst with a view of the entire Vipava valley, we’ll take a break at a small locally-run business and enter the world of cheese. Later, we’ll walk to the colorful pastures and hang out with the sheep and goats. For dinner, we will enjoy delicious local food.

On Day 6, we’ll pedal to the charming centuries-old small town Vipavski Križ, located on a hill in the middle of the Vipava valley, and then bike through the narrow streets while discovering the legends of the Vipava pearl. We’ll take a few breaks along the way to explore and photograph sights like the Napoleon bridge and Roman ruins in the town of Ajdovščina.

After a short drive we will visit the culturally protected village of Goče. The trail will lead us to a 650-year-old farmhouse and one of the 75 preserved stone-arched wine cellars. After lunch, we’ll transfer to the Slovenian Coast town of Izola. Later on, there will be some free time to explore the town and enjoy a seafood dinner at your own expense, if desired.

We’ll start our biking day in Izola and pedal to the stunning viewpoint towards the sea. Then, we’ll descend to The Strunjan saltpans, the northernmost and smallest saltpans in the Mediterranean. We’ll continue biking on the Parenzana trail. This biking path offers scenic views of the Izola bay, and we’ll pedal through vineyards, olive groves, and preserved tunnels and bridges along the countryside.

In Piran, full of narrow streets, churches, and squares, we’ll take a lunch break at our own expense (if desired) before biking back to Izola. In the evening, we’ll take a short transfer to the countryside of Slovenian Istria for the farewell dinner and wine tasting. Together, we will raise a toast to this amazing Slovenian e-biking adventure.

On our last day, we’ll enjoy a nice breakfast or take a walk to the beaches of Izola. Your guide will transfer you to the capital town of Ljubljana in order to catch the afternoon flight back home.
